Seventeen-year-old Leroy wants to study art and become a painter. Although he has good relationships with his family and friends, Leroy is far from being happy. With his older brother now in jail, Leroy feels even more trapped by his big secret. He is gay and doesn't dare come out and disrupt an already difficult time for his family. Leroy goes on an incredible-- yet painful and terrifying--journey from Dallas to Taos, and from fear to love.
While MUCH racier than I expected (multiple references to male anatomy & some mild gay sex, both casual and in a committed relationship) the story was really good. Dealing with acceptance, expectations, family dynamics, honesty, and self love. It was a pretty easy read both in content and length. Pleasantly surprised by the quality. Recommended for LGBTQ students and others.
Sadly this series of Coming Out, are not suitable for teen readers. All the books contain sexually explicit material, and are not school worthy material. The language and scenes described are just not for minors. There is sexual violence, and explicit wanton sex, the coming out part is not thoughtful or caring.
