Are you ever disappointed in your spouse? Do you fight? Do you disagree about money, sex, or in-laws? What if the very struggles you are facing were addressed by thoughtful Christians hundreds of years ago?
In Held in Honor , you will find 50 devotional reflections on marriage carefully selected from 2,000 years of church history. Alongside each inspiring historical quote is a brief introduction to the person quoted and an accompanying biblical reflection.
You are not alone in your marriage. The Lord has provided encouragement, correction, and hope in his Word. Held in Honor aims to strengthen you by pointing you to the promises of God's Word and by showing you how past generations have applied this life-giving message to their own marriages.

A great little book that includes years of wisdom from Christians from the very beginning to present. Some devotion material in addition to the original author's writing can deviate in some unhelpful way. We still really enjoyed using this for our devotion though! If there is something similar down the road (as I am sure there is so much content on this topic over centuries of Christian work) we'd definitely be reading it again!
An excellent assortment of quotes on marriage throughout Christian history and across the denominational spectrum. I have been challenged by my study of Christian history to see the good each era offers while recognizing that their blind spots are simply different from my own, and writers of other times often point mine out to me. These meditations were both encouraging and challenging me in my own life and marriage, and I recommend this devotional highly.
My wife and I read this together as a daily devotional. There are gems in here that can really challenge you and get you and your spouse thinking/talking. Wisdom from great Christians throughout history. I would highly recommend married couples read through this together.
"What does your marriage say about Christ and the church?"
Excellent. The book is formatted as a devotional, and that is probably the most effective way to read it, but with an already packed devotional time, it was just as edifying to read straight through.
More than anything, this book has pointed me toward so many other marriage resources from church history that I’m excited to take advantage of.
