We rely so heavily on the internet for communication, information, entertainment, business and personal finance that we forget that we take a risk when we enter this digital realm. A whole host of dangers lurk beneath the surface, from viruses and malware to hacking and identity theft, not to mention the threat to you and your children's reputation and personal safety, which can be compromised when interacting with others online. The book takes the reader through what to look out for and avoid, strong passwords, virus checkers and firewalls, other software solutions, how to let your kids surf safely, recovering lost data and keeping safe on smartphones, tablets and laptops as well as PCs. Internet Security Made Easy is the essential guide for all those who want to enjoy what the internet has to offer whilst remaining as safe as possible.
'Internet Security Made Easy' was a book written for very beginner computer or phone users.
I would recommend to not bother buying this book, or even picking it up from the library as the book is outdated. First published in 2015, the book only covers the basics of Windows 8 and Windows 7, with a touch on Android and MacOS platforms.
I must admit, the book did enlighten some good tips for example using MalwareBytes and CCleaner by Piriform to clean up and aid in protecting your computer, and using anti-virus software such as AVG.
Overall, try finding a newer Internet Security book, or just google the basics. If you want to read this book, by all means go for it, just take note of the books age and that software changes with time.
This is a good read for people with very little tech/computer knowledge. If you already have a good grasp of computers, my advice is to look for something else. Anyway, I work in programming and I already got some experience with computers, but I still managed to learn a few things.
The book is also very easy to read -- this was actually my toilet book for the past several weeks, it's broken down into lots of small sections, and it's really easy to digest. :)
