Deborah is a normal twelve year old girl who is thrust into an adventure she could not have imagined in even the wildest of her daydreams. Forced to leave her home, her family and everything she has ever known the fate of all mankind will be tied to her own. Travelling with a small and furry companion who has been sent to aid her, Deborah must battle to stop an evil that is sweeping north from the lands to the south. Threatened from every side, can she avert the seemingly inevitable destruction of mankind, or will her people be swallowed up by the darkness that approaches?
'Deborah, A darkness comes,' is a fast moving tale of action and adventure that adults and children alike will love. (Though, as with the Chronicles of Narnia, the story stands alone on its own merits, and carries a positive message to any reader regardless of their beliefs, throughout the story Deborah becomes aware of a spiritual reality that is consistent with a mono-theistic world-view, and more specifically Christianity).
The first of three instalments, you'll love this magical tale of giants and witches, good versus evil and a young girl's journey through dangers, toils and snares.
David McConkey was born and raised in Northern Ireland, where his numerous sporting and academic achievements are, frankly, too numerous to mention. He went on to “study” architecture at the University of Edinburgh and there, surviving on a diet that consisted almost entirely of Irn Bru and Cadbury’s chocolate, he perfected the art of sledge making and became a legendary figure in the local Kubb scene. When he saw the breadth of his domain, he wept, for there were no more worlds to conquer. However when a close friend pointed out that this was entirely inaccurate, he promptly moved to America. Spending six years working for the Salvation Army in Spokane, Washington, he was clever enough to marry the best American there was. He also completed a theology degree at Whitworth University. Returning to his homeland, he has since been blessed with two beautiful daughters and continues to work in the field of youth ministry. This is his first novel but he eagerly awaits the rising clamour for the next in the series.
Deborah is a 12 year old girl who sets out on a mission with her friend, Derrick, the talking Griffon. Debora and Derrick comes across many foes, including the Aesir who capture her and her friend, Finn. With the help of Derrick, Deborah must help her people fight against the influences of the Aesir and the Grecians. This is a short and sweet story with a biblical background and a strong female character.
I won Deborah: A Darkness Comes by David McConkey in a Goodreads giveaway. I really enjoyed this book. The mixture of mythology and ancient biblical times was a treat. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about ancient worlds, real or imagined. Thank you for the opportunity to read it.
