Tucker and Ryder figured that the worst was over. They'd gotten used to being lycans, they'd managed to not get killed by werewolf hunters and they'd stopped a crazy magician from trying to unleash Armageddon.

However, as they try to get back to their lives, they find a whole host of new problems awaiting them. The government has established a task force to deal with paranormal threats and lycans are at the top of that list. There is a monster prowling the dark places of New York City. And the Moon Spirit has an agenda for them to fulfill.

Moon Born continues the story of Love Bites, with new characters, new dangers and new complications for Ryder and Tucker's relationship.

D. River has been writing for many decades, and most of it is filthy, dirty stuff that you absolutely shouldn't read. Highly-trained experts have successfully quarantined most of that work to keep innocent bystanders from debilitating cases of blushing.

D. River started putting out books for sale with Wild Horses. Since no one told him to stop, he went on to publish other novels, including the popular Love Bites. The men in white coats caught up with him, though, and he vanished off the face the of Earth. Having made his escape and having set up shop in an abandoned adult toy factory, he is now ready to unleash more paranormal romances/adventure stories on an unsuspecting world.

I loved this continuation of Tucker and Ryder's story. Everything that was started in book one, continues here. D. River combines the contemporary world, the magical world, the fighting, pain and unease with the hottest, sweetest romance. Tucker and Ryder and the dynamics between them are what kept absolutely hooked to this book. I loved the hot sex scenes - and I'm really not that bothered by nooky in my fiction. I mean I like it - of course I do - but I can easily read a book without it. The sex here though was haaawwwwttt.

"I am so fucked, thought Ryder. Yay"

...oh I wholeheartedly agree with that yay!!

"Since screaming out 'thank you God' was blasphemous and would get them more noise complaints, Ryder clenched his jaw instead."

...noise complaint, snoise complaint. Save your jaw, Ryder. Scream away!

As well as some damn hot sex, there is a great story. A continuation of book 1, with Tucker and Ryder finding their way as lycans, figuring out who is friend and who is foe. trying to become a pack in a world that doesn't accept wolves. Along with Trey - and a cast of new, and returning, characters - Tucker and Ryder become embroiled in a fight they really don't want to be involved in. Except they both believe in the power of good and the power of right. A story that twists and turns and makes you want to keep reading and not put the book down.

As in my review of the last book, I have to mention Little Avalon. I want more in this setting. I love it.

"Passing under the cobblestone arches was like stepping through a portal of another world. The citizens of Little Avalon made no effort to look like regular people. Ryder wasn't sure if it was in reaction to their being segregated from the rest of the population or if it was simply pride in who and what they were."

I hope there is mopre of this place in the next book.

If you like fantasy books, especially those that bring the contemporary and fantastical worlds right alongside each other I heartily recommend these books. If you like hot sex between shifters - what are you waiting for? If you want to read something for pure escapism and enjoyment, give this series a try. I'm truly enjoying it.

Chris O’Guinn (aka D. River) made us wait too long for this amazing sequel to his first lycan romance, “Love Bites.” It is beautiful and moving and exciting by turns. I devoured it in two days.

In the first book of the “Feral Hearts” series, River turned all our expectations upside down, by offering us two lifelong straight buddies, turned into werewolves against their wills, who discover a love for each other that runs deeper than either had ever imagined. Together they come to accept their lycan spirits, and set about figuring out how to live their lives thus transformed.

Once again we are in a nearly-recognizable world in which the paranormal (called, rather charmingly, “the Enlightened”) are sequestered in a self-made magical ghetto in what appears to be New York’s South Bronx. Unlike certain nasty historical ghettos, Old Avalon seems to be more like what I remember of Greenwich Village in the 1970s. A fun, bohemian, slightly shabby place where magical folk can be themselves without persecution. A place that tourists visit to gawk and be titillated. Yeah, sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

In “Moon Born” Ryder and Tucker are still dealing with the aftermath of their transformation a few months later, and they have the orphaned Trey Hood to boot, a third member of their little pack. Tucker is having trouble dealing with his anti-magical prejudices, as well as his newfound status as a gay man.

In the midst of a heatwave and a blackout, a visit from the PVU (Paranormal Victims Unit) of a fairly hostile human police department alerts our pack that there have been a series of killings that seem to be lycan related. Suddenly, everything has changed again, and Ryder and Tucker are pulled into a dangerous adventure that will not only change their lives, but possibly the world.

River writes with passion and with an eye for detail. He makes Tucker and Ryder into vivid, likeable men, whose concern for others fights with their own self-doubts. The supporting character of Trey, who is part kid-brother and part son to the men, is endearing. Ryder’s vampire friend Donovan is both absurd and delightful, as he teases the new werewolves about their romance and helps them negotiate the magical world. The PVU Detective Niyati, a middle-aged East Indian woman with some magical power, starts out as a puzzle, both to the reader and to our heroes; but by the end of the book she has become quietly heroic in her wish to help Tucker and Ryder and to see justice prevail over evil. D. River builds a world that is almost-normal, but weird enough to be fascinating and to arouse the reader’s curiosity on every page. He not only makes his paranormal world believable, he makes us wish it were true.

There is a third book in the offing, and I dearly hope Mr. River doesn’t make us wait as long this time around.

I wanted to love this one but I struggled with it. I'm not even sure why - it must be a case of it's just me because everyone else seemed to love this one.

**4.5 Stars**

I really enjoyed this second book in this series. It was dark but sweet and had it's funny moments. It doesn't look like there will be more of this series which is a shame because I think Trey needs a better ending.

● Fantasy/Paranormal
● Wolf shifters
● Established couple
● Demons
● An adventure
● Some dark elements
● It did make me chuckle in a few places
● Made me cry (Damn that was heartbreaking)
● A bit swoon worthy
● Loved the MCs... Tucker & Ryder
● Really sad to see there are no other books in this series
● A somewhat satisfying ending but there are some unanswered questions
Not a stand-alone

I'm so glad I got around to this one so soon after the first book in the series. I liked Love Bites but not enough to start Moon Born immediately, so I had it on my kindle. But when I finished another book at 2 am last night and didn't feel like falling asleep I started Moon Born on a whim and oh, what a good decision it was!

I thoroughly enjoyed it! This book had so much more story, action and fun than the last one. I still found the sex boring and skimmed over it but at this point, it was more to get back to the story than anything else.

The entire book was from Ryder's perspective this time round and I think that was a good idea. So, the pack of three came back from their time in the wild woods and are trying to reintegrate into normal human society but its harder than they expected. They're running out of money, have no further income and are about to lose their home. The problems don't just end there. The camaraderie they shared as a wolf pack doesn't come so easily to them as a human family but help comes from surprising places. So these three sweet, broken boys have a lot to figure out while saving the world. Yes, that's a trope here. I don't want to go into the details and then have to hide the review for spoilers. So I'll just say this book packs a load of fun. So get reading!

PS: I forgot to mention that there are quite a few plot holes and unanswered questions (unlike Love Bites, which was tied up neatly with a bow on top) which made it seem like there would be more books to come in the series but it looks like D. River hasn't written any more since he finished Moon Born in 2015, so I'm not holding out hope.

This series is decent but it's unfinished no matter what angle you look at it, and the author seems to have abandoned it. That's what really made me lose interest, I think. It's a pretty hot best friends to werewolf lovers story. The lore of the magical world (including but not limited to werewolves) is unique. The side character Trey throws a nice twist to things. It's a real shame nothing more will ever come of this, most likely.

3 stars for me, could easily be a 4 or 4.5 star series though if it wasn't abandoned.

I’m a fiend for urban fantasy, and I can’t find enough to satisfy my interest. Urban fantasy often falls under another label, paranormal romance and while I enjoy a romantic story, I’m more interested in a fantasy with a romance subplot rather than the more common romance set in a fantasy/paranormal realm. I fell for the first book because the author created a rich and original world, and the romance forwarded the adventure plot rather than the other way around and it had a sense of humor. Plus, bonus points for a gay protagonist!

After too-long of a wait, this sequel is more what I wanted, actually it’s even better. We continue to explore the world and we learn more about our protagonists and the adventure they are pursuing. But the number of fully-realized supporting characters really demonstrates the detailed story that was created. This is where I think the author’s writing really matures – the growing cast of characters who flesh out this world. A major bright spot for me is a playful vampire character introduces in the first novel who seems to really jump out in this one and puts a smile on my face – if even the supporting cast can amuse me so, that’s a great sign for the book as a whole.

Action. Adventure. A rich, modern, alternate-reality world with its own history and rules. A deep cast. And sweet relationships and some spicy gay sex. I’m glad to see the second book and the indication that the author is turning this into a series. And my hope is that the series may include more time with my new favorite blood-sucker.

Oh, this was so good! It felt like I waited forever for a sequel and this did not disappoint in the slightest. At the end of the first book, I felt as though things were finally coming together for Tucker and Ryder but things are far from simple or easy when it comes to these two. Coming back to the city isn't as easy as they thought it would be; Tucker is having problems adjusting, Trey is sneaking out on his, Ryder is having trouble findin a job, and then there are all the murders by something that looks suspiciously like a Lycan...

This was just a fantastic read. The story flowed well and the continuation from the first book was well done and made sense. It was easy to fall into the book; I laughed in places and almost cried when My favorite part, however, was when Ryder and Tucker I also really enjoyed how the final confrontation with the baddie of the book wasn't something easily taken care of. There was a build up to that part of the book and the author didn't disappoint in the execution of it. I just loved this and I am super excited to read the next installment, especially with

Great read!

Loved it!!!!! Great way to continue with the series..... Ryder and Tucker have accepted they are werewolf and now want to try and live a life as normal as they can.
Thing are not going to be easy back city but this two won't back down even if the government and other supernaturally want to make it hard for them.
I love how the book just follow the first I hate having to wait a couple of chapters until it gets good.
Once again this supernatural world got me hook specially since is different that much out there.
I give this book 5 fangs!!!!

Considering its been three and a half years since I read the first book...I more or less fell right back into it. I didn't remember a LOT of details besides straight turn lycan turn mate and a big fight at the end. I definitely didn't remember Trey. But I was still able to get back into the groove.

This was... awesome. Mystery, a little confusion on some things happening, Sexy times, action and adventure, epic fight...and tragedy...

Not sure if we'll get any more in this world, it would be nice to see the pack all settled with mates.. but if it doesn't happen I'm okay with that because Tucker and Ryder are totally on board now.

Reviewed for Prism Book Alliance

Am reviewing Love Bites and Moon Born from D River together because they belong together. Moon Born picks up pretty much where Love Bites leaves off. It continues the saga and newly made werewolves Tucker and Ryder, as well as their pack mate Trey.
