This book can be used in conjunction with a free 3-D app that can be downloaded to the reader's computer or phone, allowing him/her to take a 3-D tour of Tut's Tomb. The first page gives the reader directions for how to download and use the app. The remaining pages of the book are set up in a scrapbook format with headings, subheadings, and beautiful illustrations of maps, objects, and photos, all with supporting captions. One can learn about Egypt's elaborate history and the discovery of King Tut's nearly intact tomb by British archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922.

Twin Text: Gauch, S. (2015.) The tomb robber and King Tut. New York, NY: Penguin Random House.
This book is a wonderful companion to the Explore 360 book. This is a fictional story of a boy whose grandfather stole from the tombs and now his family's reputation is still blemished by this act. His father is a farmer who values restoring the family's name. That is why he says no when Hassan asks his father if he can volunteer to help Howard Carter clear rubble as they search for the missing tomb. Hassan asks again and again and finally his father agrees to let him go. Hassan is just in time because shortly after he begins work, Carter finds the entrance to the tomb. It was very exciting to imagine what it might have been like to witness the opening of the tomb through Hassan's eyes. I also enjoyed witnessing Hassan's restoration of his family's name through his hard work ethic and honest action of turning in a valuable when he found it.

Connection Strategy: The Tomb of Tutankhamun could be utilized during a social studies unit addressing this part of history. After introducing the book as a reference and summarizing its contents to the class, I would read The Tomb Robber and King Tut. Following the story, I would take students on a 360 tour of what Hassan witnessed when he assisted with the uncovering of the tomb. Students could then write a diary entry from Hassan's point of view of the day he got to see the contents of the tomb still intact.
