Sweetly Romantic Short Story / 11 pages Hank was late again for dinner, but Ruth didn't mind. His job as a fireman meant life was always a bit chaotic. As long as he came home to her at the end of the day, she was blissfully content. She didn't know that tonight would be a night like no other ... * * * The Proposal - Book 1 NYC is the first book in this romantic short story series. These short stories are about 10 pages each and celebrate the power of true love. Each takes place in a different US state. The boxed sets are compiled immediately after reaching each 10-book milestone. It's your choice! Some readers enjoy giving feedback as I write while others would rather binge-read in blocks. 2.5 Stars. I’m not sure how I feel about this book. Because it is super short, it was over before I knew it. Parts of the story are sweet; I just wish the story were a tiny bit longer. This book is book one of a series of short stories by Lisa Shea. Will I read the next book? Yes I probably will give it a chance to interest me.
Ruth and her boyfriend Hank are having a romantic meal when Hank gets called away. Ruth doesn’t mind though as Hank is a fire fighter. When Ruth see’s the danger Hank is in she rushes to be by her mans side. With a love charm in her pocket, will Ruth and Hank live happily ever after?
The story is well written. So much so, that I had chills and the tears welled up in my eyes. It gives me hope that love is still out there. Romance filled, this short story gave so much in a little time. I got a heartache when she ran thru the streets to get to the scene. My heart raved along with Ruth's and I held my breath. I felt all the emotions coming out of the pages as I read along.
A sweet short story, well written with a perfect amount of tension. I loved the line where Shea described the crowd gathered at an apartment fire: “There were hordes of gawkers and excitement junkies, most holding cell-phones high to celebrate this bonfire.”
Sweet short story reminds you that you should never take anything or anyone for granted, and that things could change in a heartbeat. Cherish your loved ones and remind them how much you love them every single day.
Being a beta reader for Lisa, I get to see her new material on a consistent basis. She never disappoints me with her clean, fun, and often wonderful stories. This is the first in a new short story series from her and I liked it a lot. The main character, Ruth is smart and well rounded. Her beau is the same. I enjoyed getting lost in NYC for a short period of time while seeing how this would play out.
It is a bit predictable because of the title, and the endings are the same. This is not an issue considering each story is a stand alone entity despite being part of a series. I found this first story to be a great mix of heart and true to form love while not being overly sappy. I think Lisa could release more in this series and have great success for not just women, but men too.
This is a great start to a new series. It's super short, tightly done; and I really enjoyed it. I'll admit I'm a romantic. Although I've never personally experienced a fully-worked-out high-class proposal* with a bended knee and a diamond as big as the Ritz or mandolins and balconies and stuff like that, it still makes me feel bouncy and damp when it happens to other people, even in books, especially under dramatic circumstances like this one... I'm looking forward to more of that wonderful squishy feeling as this series progresses...

* My experience of proposals is like the utilitarian Soviet stuff described by Comrade Yoschenko in Silk Stockings, before she got all corrupted by Paris.
This is a short 10-page romance story which takes place in New York City. Hank is late meeting Ruth for dinner at the restaurant. Ruth understands since Hank is a fireman and plans must be changed abruptly at times. She has a hectic day job caring for hyperactive toddlers. When will they ever find time to actually get married? He does arrive for dinner and they barely finish their meal when Hank's cell phone rings and he rushes out of the restaurant. Wow! This is such a stunning, well written short story! I'm going to continue reading Lisa's series. She's very creative and her story excited me. Let's move on together ... read this shorty...you'll have no regrets!
