Rick knows his lover Danny has a secret and has been lying to Rick in order to keep it. He’s pretty sure this secret has something to do with seeing another man once a month for three days at a time.
Determined to show his boyfriend that he can be everything Danny needs, Rick hatches a plan that ends up revealing way more than he could’ve imagined.
Missy Welsh stares into space a lot, has conversations with cats, takes notes while people-watching, records conversations (not the ones with cats), named her laptop Norbert and her phone Pushkin, has backups of her backups’ backups, faints at the sight of a misused semi-colon, and will often ask socially unacceptable questions of strangers. Basically, she’s a writer.
I'm a fan of Missy Welsh's stories, and this one was nice, but for me it was missing something. It was hot and sexy and then sort of over...it was probably the length that limited what could be told. All in all a sexy short and i am glad the BDSM was very light but of course I thought the paranormal aspect was pretty light too.
This little short had a lot of very positive things. It was sweet and a bit sad, and steamy sexy and BDSMy all at the same time. Rick is sure his new lover Danny has a guy on the side, since once a month he disappears for three days coming home exhausted. Although Rick is a top, and Danny has more or less fallen into a very submissive role forcing Danny to become a Top with a capital T. Rick is sure he’s not enough, but is determined to prove he can keep Danny happy with a little role-play kidnapping. However it doesn’t quite work out when Danny sees him, but he wants to play along so Rick “kidnaps” him and takes him out the lake where they start to get into some hot and heavy sex, only to be attacked by some local … wingnuts? Religious zealots? I’m not exactly sure, but while Danny has always been bigger and stronger than Rick, he takes out the thugs and saves Rick.
Finally Rick demands the truth from Danny, and is surprised to say the least when Danny reveals his werewolf nature. Okay, the sweet but kind of sad, was Rick’s love for Danny, which was sweet but it was sad that he had been rejected by his family when he was caught having sex as a teenager and really has no one. Danny is all he’s got and he’ll do anything to make him happy and he just wanted to be loved so badly. It was that kind of sweet/sad where you just want to wrap him up and hug him and give him that love he never got from his family. The BDSM was rather light, but it was steamy hot. They just sizzled. The ending was also sweet and a bit humorous, as Rick finally found the love and family he’d been seeking in the pack.
One thing that kind of left me waffling, was Rick had never bottomed since that day he got caught by his father, and he decides he wants that after he and Danny confess their love. While I’m usually all about the guys being versatile, something here made me wonder if it would change the dynamic of their relationship too much. I liked the traditional top/bottom D/s thing they had going on, but this is probably a very personal thing and others will appreciate him trusting Danny enough to go there. So that’s not a negative necessarily, but I had rather wished they had just let it go for my taste.
My other small confusion over who the bad guys were. On the way to the lake they pass the “Academy of Divine Living—a.k.a. The Brainwashing Compound”. I got the impression it was some kind of religious compound, but it’s not really clear who they are or why they attacked, beyond being homophobic.
I think this is a great read when you’re looking for the right mix of smoking hot sex with a very sweet D/s relationship. I really enjoyed reading it and it’s quite short so great for a before bed read or maybe on your lunch hour. Definitely a worthwhile read.
It's, well, uhm, okay, I guess. I like Rick's voice as main narrator (it's in 3rd person). BUT, I definitely can do without the excessive use of 1) "baby" and 2) "i love you". It's a short story, so saying it more than 5 times feels repetitive. Oh, and I'm not exactly in the mood for BDSM kink at the moment, so that part just gets a "shrug" from me.
The epilogue is nice though -- I like the idea of the human mates joining together, waiting for their werewolves significant other to return from hunting. It's like those footballers's spouses club or something :D
This was a very interesting and pleasurable short story. I enjoyed the characters at the end of the story, and Rick and Danny were so precious together. I liked the author's style of writing and the plot was sweet and touching. Overall, an excellent and passionate read. =)
I really liked this short story. Rick has been together with Danny for a couple months but feels insecure when Danny keeps disappearing 3 days a month, coming home exhausted. Rick thinks Danny is cheating. They have both been lonely and are afraid of losing the other. I like the reveal of Danny's secret and the epilogue was nice. Just wish it was longer
I was very skeptical when I started this story since I’m not a huge fan of werewolves, but I’m so glad that I did. The story begins with Rick, who believes that Danny is hiding something from him, because every month he disappears for three days. So, in order to prove Danny that he’s the man for him, he plans a hot and steamy date. He “kidnaps” Danny and takes him to a lake. While they’re having hot and stick sex, several anti-gay morons attack them mercilessly. Since Danny was bigger and stronger than Rick, he quickly pounds them to the ground, but something is not right or doesn’t make sense. Rick is badly bruised, but Danny is better and stronger than ever. When Rick demands the truth, he finds out that Danny’s deepest secret. Danny is a werewolf.
I loved Danny and Rick since they were perfect for each other. Danny to me was the bomb. He was sexy, hot and just interesting. I didn’t like the sudden ending. This story was just too short for my taste since I wanted to read more about these two very interesting characters. I recommend this to all those who enjoy paranormal romance between two hot and sexy characters and for those who are looking for something new.
Missy Welsh is one of my favorite authors. Her writing is so beautiful.
The reason this was a three for me is because there was simply not enough to it. Short stories are tricky. They're very hard to get the emotional arc of the story. Add in the paranormal element, and it's damn near impossible. I felt when reading this: God, this would be SO GOOD as a novel. And was ultimately disappointed by the promise of more.
But it was still a good read. I will continue to purchase Missy Welsh's books.
Another fun, short story, which could easily have been a longer story too, but then I'm biased like that with most Missy Welsh stories - I always want more!!!
Danny is a sweetheart, and Rick has so much heart - I liked the way Danny shared his secret and how Rick accepted it rather than going with fear.
It's a short story with some hot scenes, perfect for a Saturday morning!
Damn this was actually good short story, which had a promise for something more. I don't get it, why writing such a short story if we could read, with deeper development, a novella. I want to read more about Danny and Rick. They are good attractive couple. But like I said, it was to short and undeveloped.
This was sweet. At first I was a bit unsure about it...shifters and all. But, the author manage to turn around my fears. It turn out to be a nice short story, love the romance in it.
Left me wondering though about the divine compound, and how Danny went from being wild about Rick being his Master to being a top. Also, was curious about the st Vincent thing. Mostly just porn
wanted to say 'no' and give it a star for 'I did not like it'. but... well... the guy turned out to be a wolf and werewolves are hot, so, I'm gonna go with 'meh' and 2 stars.
