Come along for the journey in this childrens book filled to the brim with adventure and knowledge.
A great book. I had never really thought much about Mongolia. It said it was ruled by Russia fairly recently and they controlled much of the freedoms of the Mongol people. The Gobi Desert is there but doesn't have a lot of drifting sands. Ulaanbaatar is its capital. The Altai Mountains are very tall. There is a strain of horse called the Przewalski's horse or as the Mongols call it the takhi. It is thought to be the original horse from which all other horses arise. Gazelles, saiga antelope, snow leopards, and bactrian (two-humped) camels live there. It has recently started a National Pride Day on November 23rd to honor an historic ruler, Genghis Khan.
Exploring Countries series; 32 pages. Great basic information and photos. Good resource for reports or recreational reading. Highly recommended for Grades 4-5.
