would definitely recommend this to people who are struggling with what to where and why it might not work. why and when to where styles and colours that work. worth a read for anyone feeling overwhelmed by what to wear
I recently bought this book out of curiosity about men's styling for my husband. It provided me with some useful insights into the styling world, and it's clear that the writer is knowledgeable about the industry. However, certain sections lack detailed explanations.
An important aspect of this book is the inclusion of pictures, as fashion is inherently visual and meant to be showcased rather than just imagined. The publisher should have added more photographs to help readers better understand the concepts. Additionally, the placement of the photos could be improved; they should be positioned right before or after the relevant paragraphs. Overall, it just needs some enhancements from the editor and publisher.
I admit, I only skim read this as it was on my friends bookshelf, but I got to flick through most of it. Hmmmm, I guess it's helpful? But is being a gentleman just about externals? What about character traits? It does focus a lot on "authenticity" which is interesting in our world. I hope I can be an honest authentic person too, because of my confidence in God's love for me.
Jeff Lack has worked in fashion for 25 years and this book encourages men to aspire to their personal best in all both clothing and appearance. Men are encouraged to be proud of what they wear and who they are. According to Lack it is all about credibility - exposing your personal brand to the world. His manta is Fit, Style and Colour. Get those three right and you are well on the way to success. An interesting book of good ideas, even down to the care of your garments, washing and hanging and even putting your jeans in the freezer for a couple of days - a new idea to me.
Having a few signature pieces, bought for quality rather than latest fashion trend, will enable men to mix together a great look, be it shorts and a straw hat or tailor made suit. A casual navy blazer can be dressed up or down and so serve a multitude of uses.
I enjoyed his comment that good shoes can make an outfit and that you can never have too many pairs. Also he urges us to make an effort - casual Friday is not really that casual.
