Alien Hunters #1-3

Alien Hunters: A Space Opera Trilogy

Rate this book
Bloodthirsty aliens are storming toward Earth. Can the Alien Hunters, a group of underdog heroes, stop them? 3 books + nearly 1000 pages of alien invasion and space adventure readers are calling "thrilling," "quirky," and "as action-packed as Star Wars." From a USA Today bestselling author. BOOK 1: Alien Hunters -- The skelkrins. Predators from deep space. Creatures of claws, fangs, and malice. Riff and his crew are the Alien Hunters, ragtag mercenaries who travel the galaxy, trapping and removing cosmic critters. They're just galactic pest controllers, not an army. When the skelkrins attack, will the Alien Hunters be the ones hunting aliens . . . or will aliens hunt them? BOOK 2: Alien Sky -- The Singularity. The day the machines gained awareness. The day they turned cruel. The robotic fleet swarms across the galaxy, slaying all in its path. The Alien Hunters--outgunned, outsmarted, outclassed--fly up to meet these killer robots. The battle between life and machine begins. BOOK 3: Alien Shadows -- On a dead planet orbiting a black hole, shadows stir. Some call them ghosts, others merely figments of the imagination. As these astral beings spread across the cosmos, the Alien Hunters stare into the darkness of deepest space . . . and find terror. Here's what people are saying about Alien "A fun, fast-paced space adventure, Alien Hunters introduces a fresh new universe as action-packed as Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica and as quirky as Futurama." -- Jeff Bryan, author of Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper "Arenson has brought fun back to space opera. Alien Hunters grab you from the first page and don't let go until the very end. If you love Firefly or Guardians of the Galaxy, you'll dig this." -- Colin F. Barnes, author of Hollow Space "A rollicking good ride! One part Star Wars, a large dollop of Hitchhiker, a pinch of Fifth Element, just a taste of Star Trek, all mixed well with a brilliant imagination and you have one whale of a good space adventure!" -- Linda, an Amazon reviewer

I couldn't finish this book. The writing is ghastly. The plot and characters are unbelievably trite. I always finish books but I just couldn't with this one.

I know some people will trash this book, because let’s face it, It’s not the best written book. Yet, it was fun!!! It’s a mesh mash off some of my favorite tropes cobbled together into a fun story.

I enjoyed reading a book where magic and science were part of the story. I mean, why they hell not. Let’s have dragons, demons, and D&D like party, ramping through space fighting crazy things and managing to find their way home.

I found these books extremely enjoyable and just a fun read. There was so much drama and comedy and likable if predictable characters. These books were like bingeing on your favorite desserts, all of them at once. Yeah, you know it’s too much but man did you enjoy it.

Thanks for the fun read.

This book starts off from the perspective of an alien woman who is told a prophecy. Then we see the story from the perspective of a man who has thugs after him. These thugs believe some aliens are their saviors. Sounds okay. Not good or bad. My immersion was broken by the inaccurate science in this series.

Some of the aliens alluded to in the series are monks. The alien enemies don't fit the technical description, because monks are religious people who take vows of celibacy and poverty, or something like that. The alien enemies should be called a cult instead, and the wording used to describe them is off.

In one scene, starjets that were capable of atmospheric entry were destroyed by electric whips and plasma fire from pistols. Any vessel that is capable of atmospheric entry must have some sort of protection against atmospheric burn, and should not be destroyed by conventional firearms, let alone electric whips. This just broke my suspension of disbelief.

In another bit of exposition, the author refers to humans who lived on an alien planet for thousands of years, who gained catlike and warrior characteristics, and grew pointy ears. The author said they "evolved". First of all, evolution takes millions of years, or at least hundreds of thousands of years. The term he was looking for was "adapted".

This book also had the Star Wars "Stormtrooper effect". When the starjets chased the main characters, they missed all their shots, while all the heroes managed to shoot their enemies, even when they were shooting badly and missing.

Keep in mind, I liked Daniel Arenson's Earthrise series - the first six books at least. He started writing book 1 of that series a year after he wrote this, and I feel like the characters, plot, and writing were vastly superior in the Earthrise book. I bought these books because I thought they sounded intriguing, especially coming from one of my favorite authors, but if you liked the Earthrise series, you won't like this.

Some of the reviews said this series seemed like Young Adult. I agree with that, but I'm not giving this a low review because of that. My one star rating has to do with inaccurate science and broken suspension of disbelief.

Other negative reviews said the Earthrise series by Daniel Arenson was too violent and depressing, but I think that was the series' strength. So if you're looking for a good read, I recommend you check out that series because the author learned a lot about writing military science fiction with aliens from the mistakes in this series.

Note: I bought the first three books in a boxed set for 99 cents, but I'm returning them. What you're seeing above is my review of the first book. I only managed to read about 5% of that before I got too frustrated to continue. Rest assured, I did try my best to read this before I gave this review.

A big red space ship shaped like a giant fire breathing dragon, with a crew of seven people, two humans, one of whom is a blues guitarist, and the other dresses in full plate armour, just like the knights of old but with a sword the shoots out plasma, an alien that has an electric whip, an actual red demon from hell right down to the fiery hair and pointy tail and she even has the trident, and an android who is the ship and happens to be Japanese. They fly round the cosmos hunting unwanted aliens, just like ghost busters. Three of the most entertaining books i have ever read. Highly recommend it for readers who enjoy Science fiction with humour I really enjoyed reading these three books, couldn’t put them down read them every chance i had, lots of exciting bits like space battles, some sad moments, and a lots of funny bits as well. If you want a break from the intense space battles then i highly recommend this trilogy by Daniel Arenson

I have to admit that this was a fun read. There are quirky characters with various abilities. They find a way to work together to achieve several successes. The lead person is Riff. He is a blues guitarist. He gets chased out of this room at the bar and pursued across the city. Along the way he collects to prior girl friend Nova. She is an alien from another planet. Next Riff reconnects with his brother Steel who thinks he is a knight. They get chased where they then end up in a junk yard that sells used space travel ships. Riff exchanges his guitar for a dragon ship. He finds that there are several characters that are living in the ship. From there the story leads to one planet asteroid where they all bond as alien hunters. After a successful mission at the asteroid they move on to another planet. The story gets interesting with several high-steaks chases and fights. The ending brings a surprise too. For all the quirks I enjoyed this story.

Every Galaxy needs some hero's.

So I started this series thinking that this is just another space the final frontier series. Daniel I owe you an apology, there are so many side stories in this trilogy and they are all interesting. Never a dull moment in these books and I'm hoping that there is more instore for the Alien Hunters. Oh and by the way I have never wanted a tattoo but now I'm thinking a young demon dragon in cute purple pajamas with a trident in one hand and a teddy bear in the other might be appropriate. Keep up the good work I really enjoy your writing.

Misfits Seven

I liked this series enough to rate it four stars. There is humour, slap stick, drama, love, a cast of misfit characters and more then enough bag guys to go around. What started as a disjointed group of seven people in the first volume is a much better well developed team by the end of the third novel. You'll laugh, cry, nash your teeth and perhaps pull your hair as you read and continue to turn pages. Just enjoy.

A very enjoyable read

I enjoyed the humor, imagination and a well written book. The characters came alive and were very well rounded. I found myself crying at points along the way but mostly laughing at their antics. I would recommend this trilogy and look forward to reading more of his work.

What a great crew to travel the cosmos with!

Laugh -and cry- with a crew of misfits as they scrape through assignments to rid planets of alien pests. Strangers become friends and then family, and you’re happy to be along for the ride.

Hilarious

The adventures of a 7 member team consisting humans, aliens , a demon and an android solve problems of “alien infestations “ while saving the universe. It is humorous fantasy as they route out evil in the universe while resolving their personal problems.

The Magic Dragon

A coming of age story that is light and fun to read. Plenty of bad guys and new science fiction ideas. The author does go over the top occasionally in describing the action
for my taste. Still I did read all three stories one after the other. It's fun.

Romy rules!

I didn't dislike anything about the three books, written by such a cool author. The way the characters were introduced was so human and raw. Foibles galore will wait the readers.

Alien Hunters forever

Loved the story. Characters were very well written. Normally I skim, but with this one I savoured. Will be rereading it sometime down the track. Recommend to anyone who loves a really good story.

Wonderfully funny, whimsical, and entertaining story. Fans of the 'Firefly' series will catch a lot of similarities. Requires the reader to totally dispense with reality.

Excellent space romp through time and space dueling space aliens. Three fast paced light hearted books about a mismatched troup of alien hunters.

Bloody, gutsy and funny. I enjoyed reading this 'space opera' trilogy, so much so that I wanted more. The ending leaves the team together and shooting off to clean up the universe, quite literally!

A romping good time following the adventures of the crew of the HMS Dragon Huntress.

The Skelkrins, alpha predators of the Milky Way galaxy, are pursuing a young Pirilian girl who holds the key to conquering the galaxy. The 8 foot tall, crimson skinned beasts had held Midnight in one of their prisons while they tortured and studied her, trying to find how to use her ability to teleport herself anywhere she could see to power their spacecraft. Midnight was helped to escape by an old human man with a long white beard. Aminor, also called the Traveller or the Wizard, had set her on her way to Earth, telling her to find his son Riff Starfire.
Riff Starfire, blues player extraordinaire (he thinks), is in the middle of his set at the Blues Strings club when the men who killed his mother walked in the door. The Cosmians, humans who worship the skelkrins, led by Grotter, half man and half machine, whose mechanical claw had crushed the life from his mother thirty years earlier, dragged Riff off the stage.

And so begins an exciting and hilariously entertaining adventure with Riff, his brother Steel, the love of his life Nova, and the crew of Riff's newly acquired starship the HMS Dragon Huntress. The innovative writing style and whimsical interactions between the characters brought this story an excellent mix of page-burning action and bursts of unexpected humor. I literally couldn't drag myself away from the story until I finished. I couldn't help it, I bought the rest of this trilogy, and continued the adventure. Three full-length tales of intergalactic adventure as the Alien Hunters save the galaxy with bravery, wit and humour! And, just a personal note, I have fallen madly in love with To my! I can't wait for you to meet her! I assure you that you will enjoy this unpredictable masterpiece from a master storyteller!

Wow – I was not expecting this somewhat light hearted story line from Daniel Arenson after reading the serious story lines of a number of his Requiem and Moth books. This was a thoroughly enjoyable trilogy. The situations that Riff, Nova, Steel, Twig, Piston, Romy, and Giga got into were imaginative and by some miracle they always managed to come out on top. The antics of Romy were a blast – what a demon!! The biggest miracle was the Dragon Huntress always came back even after be totally destroyed. And now the crew is off to fight alien werewolves.

I hope Daniel enjoyed writing this trilogy as much as I enjoyed reading it.

Author used "greasy" as an adjective 3 times inside of 2 pages so I quit reading the first time ~ pg 56.
Picked up again because it was a fun story but the author was making jokes that you can't have a windshield in space. Then he describes an action as "outside the windshield" pg 105. I found this to be insulting to my intelligence. The whole book is like that. Totally inconsistency.

It is a real shame that so many authors go off and write trilogies and more without even getting the first few chapters reviewed, they just waste their time and the reader's.
