Carl's visit to uppsala proves fruitful when a bishop from the Swedish Church takes Pastor Johansson to task. There will be a wedding at last with or without a declaration of guilt to satisfy Anna-Stina. But the old saw, be careful what you wish for, fulfills itself when the confessioin, so long sought, when finally savored, doesn't taste as sweetly as was long imagined. Tradgedy follows when Anna-Stina finds her long nurtured loathing has turned to something else. Could it be love...of a sort?
Jugas-Brita has survived away from fromansfarden, but stumbles when her grandmother dies, unexpectedly. In a moment of weakness and mourning. Brita seeks comfort in young Carl and the result sets Fromansgarden in turmoil once more, as families battle families, for justice.
