Samara Royal feels like life is passing her by. A bookworm who prefers to spend her free-time curled up with a good novel, she doesn't have a lot of opportunities to meet men. Watching her boss, Dr. Lachele, match up happy couple after happy couple only makes matters worse, so she goes to Lachele and puts her love life into the good doctor's hands. Henry Crider has a five year plan, but inheriting his brother's four year old twin daughters throws the plan all out of whack. He needs a nanny, housekeeper and cook all in one, so he approaches Matchrimony about finding him a bride. He can't fall in love for at least five years, so he needs to harden his heart. Surely his bride will be happy to be exempt from bedroom duties. When he sees Samara walking down the aisle toward him, he knows that she is what his heart needs. Will he be able to keep his vow of celibacy? Or will they fall for each other despite his plans?
Of all the books in the series, this is the one that bothered me most. Henry needs a nanny/housekeeper, and decides that the easier, cheaper way to get one is to get married. He is a selfish bastard that never considered the feeling of the girl he is going to marry. I hated the situation, and again, I hated Dr. Lashele for not being clear on what was going on. Some people would say that Samara managed the situation correctly, and since it works at the end, maybe they're right, but I think she gave him too many passes for his bad behavior. I would have liked it if she had made things more difficult for him, it's not fair he gets everything his way.
Sami and Henry, Sittin' in a Tree, K-I-... Do ya haffta be touchin' me like that, lass?
More Boobie Bumpin', Tallywacking, Goobie Shrivelin' FUN from author Kirsten Osbourne in her At The Altar Series book #5 "Kissing in Kansas"!
Dr. Lachele finds a match for her assistant and is just waiting for Samara to ask her! Sami is so excited when Dr. Lachele tells her she thinks she's already found the one for her, while her soon to be other half is convincing himself that he is just looking for a new Mother figure for his Brother's 4 year old twins who recently lost their parents in a tragic boating incident. Will he change his mind when he sees his bride walk down the aisle or stay firm to his plan of no feelings until his 5 year plan is accomplished? Will Sami adapt and go along, glad for a no-pressure wedding night or will she hightail it out of the church as soon as she finds out? Or will she stay for the girls, but keep working on seducing her Scottish hunk, Henry? And how will telecommuting for Dr. Lachele go? There may be many states between, but Skype is only a video chat away!
This was a fun, funny, and exciting tale. We even get to see Cindy and Cissie come out for Sami's wedding. There's also another surprise waiting for Sami at her nuptials! First we have Boobie Bumping, then Tallywacking, and this new guest will add his 2 cents worth with Goobies! If you're confused, just pick up this book and read all about it! You will enjoy the crazy wacky ride!
Only 1 thing disappointed me in this book. Henry Crider is supposed to be Scottish and at times speaks with a very thick and heavy Scottish brogue (accent). The author only alludes to this a few brief times. It would have been much better and believable if she could have kept up with the different spellings and phrases that are commonly associated with Scottish speech. I found it very difficult to translate what his voice would have sounded like with American spellings and phrases. (I'm one who reads every single word (slowly) and my mind develops a movie in my head in full technicolor, sounds, emotions, etc...) So, for me, it would have enhanced the experience if it had been kept up with.
Other than that, I enjoyed this book and can't wait to dig into the next one!
I think this series is so cute! It’s fun to read about people who seem to connect almost immediately and are so focused on the end goal that nothing seems to stand in their way. I mean, the problems never seem to be insurmountable, but they are problems all the same, and people have been known to throw in the towel for less. The characters all seem to be confident and strong willed, but understand the value of compromise, commitment, and loyalty - something that seems to be a bit lacking in today’s society. Samara and Henry are no exception. They are honest about why they wanted to get married and what they want out of a marriage, and they try to give each other the space to speak frankly and be themselves. They seem to match on a fundamental level, and that appears to make it easier to embrace forgiveness and understanding in the long term.
I’m really enjoying this series. Obviously most romance novels have a happy ending, and that’s what you come to expect. But it’s really nice to see the different journeys the authors take to get there.
Henry is caring for his two nieces and wants a wife to help him. He turns to Dr. Lachele to match him up. In comes Samara, and she steps into the role of mother and wife easily. Henry wants to get to know Samara before they become a true couple. Samara starts to doubt Henry's intention of being husband and wife, and just wanted her there to care for the house and kids so he could be free. I liked this unique aspect of the couple. It touched on issues real life couples face every day. This was a heart warming story as Samara grew to love the girls as her own and Henry grew to love Samara. I hope to hear more from this coupl ein the future.
Another amazing performance from Tiffany Williams as she narrated this story. I enjoyed hearing her narrate all the characters, even the little girls. Ms. Williams is a very talented narrator who amazes me each time I listen to her narration. I cannot get enough of this series and her narration. On to the next installment!
Samara worked for the matchmaker and seeing the last 2 clients Cindy and Cissie find their soul mate through her matchmaker boss. Samara told her boss she wanted her to find her hubby, she was surprised when her boss said I found the guy perfect for you and was going to talk to you about it. Henry just got his 4 year old twin nieces after his brother and sister-in-law was killed in a boating accident. At first he only wanted basically a nanny and live in maid but got a wife that he planned to not have sex with until 5 years because he had a five year plan he lasted 3 days. Another great story in this series.
Samara is tired of watching all of the happy couples that her boss is matchmaking and finally plucks up the courage to ask for a groom for herself. What she didn't expect is to marry Henry, a man with custody of his 4 year old nieces and a 5 year plan. Unfortunately, he's only looking for a nanny, cook and mother-figure for the girls. All hell breaks loose when Samara discovers that her marriage won't be the traditional one she was hoping for. This was a charming journey of self-discovery, forgiveness and love in the unlikeliness of places.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This was a very heartwarming, satisfying, feel good book. There were highs and lows, and funny and tearful parts. You get it all without erotic sexual content. An excellent read/listen. The narrator did a great job with the characters and their personalities. From my viewpoint, she nailed the accents. I will have to look into more of Kirsten Osbourne's books.
Samara decided it's time Dr Lachele matches her. When she married Henry she also became an instant mother. The challenge of being a new wife and mother is interesting read.
Really liked it once I got into it am really liking the series. Unfortunately, I don't read them in order so I have to refresh my memory every once in awhile. Good reading.
A contemporary take on the mail order bride, I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I kind of wish I could find a Lachelle to match me up!
I have read At the Altar series books 1 -16. They are quick reads and I really enjoyed each and everyone of them. After each one was completed I had to look for the next until I got them all read.
Lachele makes another match for a romance novel reader
Samara is Lachele's assistant and she becomes disheartened with all of the clients and their HEAs. She wants one of her own. Henry is a single Scottish Christian contractor who has custody of his 4 year old twin nieces after their parent' deaths.
I think Henry is very irritating and unrealistic. He has a 5 year plan and being married isn't in the plan, but he doesn't want to hire a nanny for the girls. He opts to marry but doesn't really want a relationship with the woman. He wants a cook, nanny, and housekeeper. There certainly was a time when that's about what wives were, but that doesn't ring true today.
The best bit of this book is that Samara is an avid romance reader and she tells Henry why..."Romance novels ensure a happily ever after. I can and do read other books, but when I want a true escape? A world where I know the boy will get the girl, and the girl will love being gotten, I read a romance. I read romance because I believe there's good in this world, and I refuse to think the way we see things is the only way it could ever be. I read romance, because romance is worth reading, and I dare you to tell me it's not."
I found Kirsten's books while I was on a mail order bride reading binge. Ever since I began reading her Brides series I fell in love with her sense of hump and how she weaves the stories together. This newest series exceeds all my expectations when it comes to Ms. Osbourne's books. I have enjoyed every book and cannot wait for more. This newest book brings us the tale of a groom with his twin orphaned nieces and Lachele's assistant Sami. The three find love and stability with the newest member of their family. You will certainly enjoy reading about this trip into matrimony that ends on a very high note. Great work as always Ms. Osbourne.
Oh my goodness...Matchrimony has done it, again! How the couple in this book got matched is something only the Psychologist who started it all knows. Her assistant wants to be married and asks for help. When she walks down the aisle to the man she has agreed to marry, she is ecstatic. He is handsome, and has a Scottish brogue. What she doesn't know is he doesn't really want to be married - it isn't in his five-year plan!! Oh dear. The other twist? He's raising his 4 year old twin nieces since his brother and sister-in-law died in a boating accident. Samara is now a 'mother' and a 'wife' - to a man who didn't want this life. (That's what he thought)!!!
A sweet romance that's based on romance through a matchmaking service. Henry hires Dr. Laches to find him a wife he desperately needs. Sami is ready to take the next step in her life so she signs on for the matchmakers services. Everything goes as plan only Sami doesn't know that Henry doesn't really want a wife, he wants a nanny, cook and role mother for his two nieces.
Another wonderful creation made especially for fans by our beloved author Kirsten Osborne. Who doesn't love Dr. Lachelle and her purple hair. 5 awesome books in this series and we all hope for another 10! Samara and Henry were made for each other. The love they share with the twins is a blessing. Nice work Kirsten, thank you.
Hero: Henry Crider- looking for a new Mother figure for his Brother's 4 year old twins Heroine: Samara Royal-her boss, Dr. Lachele, 4.5* : Another great story in this series that is filled with fun, love and intrigue. The story progressed steadily, has well developed characters with witty/humorous dialogue and a fun developing plot. This story has a very happy and satisfying HEA
I'm loving The at the altar series. The story of Samara and Henry is so sweet. The book is about two strangers meeting at the altar to marry. Fun to read with a HEA ending.
this is such a fun series!! they meet at the altar, on their wedding day! You get to see them fall in love, struggle with learning about each other and all the quirks in between!! These books are fun and fast. They can be read in a couple of hours!
