Basic premise, Elliott has been left at the altar by his partner of 6 years, Ben, and decides he will take the honeymooon anyway....alone. This puts the usually staid Elliott out of his comfort zone but he wants to change things up. Due to inclement weather he finds himself facing the prospect of overnighting it at Sea-Tec airport, God knows what a joy that is, being stranded at an airport. However, he has already noticed a rather cool, calm and sexy guy, complete with Hawaiian shirt and shorts, and this same guy, Derek, starts up a conversation with the somewhat reserved, yet interested Elliott.
When Elliott manages to snare a booking at a nearby hotel (always be prepared), you know where it's going. If Elliott is going to be stranded overnight with the sexy Derek, then all roads will lead to the hotel bed and a fling. I didn't care about knowing this, it was interesting reading the journey and L A Witt writes so well it's a damn fine one. You know what they say - the best way to get over an old lover is to get under a new one. Elliott does this expression proud in Getting Off The Ground.
I liked both of the characters - Derek is confident without being arrogant, Elliott is obviously unhappy about being jilted; but not stupid enough to miss out on an opportunity when it's presented. Besides, Elliott is OCD about having the best laid plans, everyone knows what happens to them, but Elliott has bravely devised a break-out list. Being with Derek helps him cross two 'to-dos' off that list. I'm sure the third goes in 'Infinity Pools' as, when we finish here, Elliott is going to Hawaii with Derek. So, there will be a continuation of their relationship in the next book. No complaints here, this book was a satisfying read in itself, with a hopeful outlook for the next part of their relationship development.
I've just recently discovered Ms Witt's books, and I've yet to find one I don't like. I love the real feel to her characters, they're always interesting, even the secondary/minor characters are written well. The sex is always erotic with a good build, and it's hot. The writing is flawless, and the editing always neat and tidy. I so appreciate all of these things combined.
Getting Off The Ground was a quick, sexy read of the highest order. Now on to Infinity Pools.
