I have a guideline when it comes to reading: read to learn not to affirm. (Excluding reading for entertainment of course). The reason for this guideline is because one should always be growing - and echo chambers are dangerous places to live or seek.

This book came recommended by a friend. And it violated my guideline as it affirmed what I already knew as I have spent the last 9 months learning and noting these same ideas.

So why did I give it four stars? Well, I realized that others my not have the reflective gene and the stubbornness to figure out most of life on their own. And there is nothing wrong with that. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is approaching the gut feeling of dissatisfaction with their job.

This book provides practical advice on how to enjoy your career more, whether it be staying in the same position, working for a promotion within your company, or changing positions altogether. I've read several career change books and this repeats a fair amount of what I have read before, which is why I give it 3 stars. It definitely provided some new perspectives and considerations as well. If are you are looking into career change, I recommend you at least give this a try as part of your research.

Just started reading, first book since high school! Best part about this book is that it reminds me I am not the only one struggling with career, life fulfillement etc... It's reassuring. While learning new things about career boredom It also reinforces many of my beliefs about career choice, hapiness..

I read this book through the app Blinkist.

This book treats a very interesting topic. My problem with it is that the presentation is very dull & it lacks that convincing and invigorating language and tone.

The key message in this book:

Whether your goal is to secure a different job, join a new company or enter a different industry altogether, you have to take stock of what you want from your career change and make a careful plan to achieve your goal. Knowing yourself well and being realistic about what’s possible are essential steps in this potentially life-changing process.

Actionable advice:

Define your strengths.

If you know you want a different job but aren’t sure what it should be, take some time to consider your strengths and how they could be applied to different fields. Make a list of things you're particularly good at and consider different industries or jobs that require these skills.

Are you tired of your job? Are you bored, exhausted or dissatisfied with your tasks? Or perhaps you like your tasks, but it’s your office and your colleagues that make you dread going to work.

Today, as we rush to find a job and make a living, we make bad decisions and choose a job that doesn’t meet our expectations or doesn’t fit our strengths. As a result, our discontent grows. We’re hesitant to make a change because we fear we won’t be able to find anything else, let alone something better – and sometimes we don’t even know what we would do instead.

These blinks show you what it takes to make a career change. They’re full of effective strategies to help you overcome your fears, discover your strengths and successfully plan a career transition.

Whether your goal is to secure a different job, join a new company or enter a different industry altogether, you have to take stock of what you want from your career change and make a careful plan to achieve your goal. Knowing yourself well and being realistic about what’s possible are essential steps in this potentially life-changing process.

I did not care for this book. It was very predictable and did not give me any new information. Basic stuff. Boring!
