The founding curator of the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House offers reminiscences about people and places in the world of photography
Beaumont and Nancy Newhall were such a driving force in the photographic community, especially during its early formation. Beaumont Newhall's memoir is full of detailed accounts of each developmental stage as photographs became accepted as art. The exhibition ‘Photography 1839– 1937’ opened at the Museum of Modem Art in 1937, curated by Beaumont. This exhibit and its catalog would outline the full history of photography for the first time. Newhall, the show's curator, became a major figure in defining and writing the history of photography.
