This is a nice read that ticks the boxes off for a gothic romance. The characters are well developed and likable and the romance is strong. If you are looking for a good gothic romance this is the book for you. I marked it down only because the pacing is a bit slow in the beginning as it is bogged down with back story. Do not let this stop you from picking up the book because once it gets going it is a great read.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review...I started this short story tonight and what stopped me from given it 5* was it took the first 17-19 pages before the story started, because of this I didn't know what to expect from the story. Then the story started and I got interested to see where the writer was taking this. I read on to see that the characters of Samantha and Dante were 'meant to be together'. There was some kind of bond holding them together and it will be interesting to see where the rest of the story goes later in the series. The whole Gothic scene was starting to unfold and the characters become likeable. As the reader I quickly realised that there was going to be something unusual about Dante. He is good looking, wealthy, secretive and mysterious. It keeps you guessing. Although the story does goes into some detail of immortality, the rest of the story is left on a kind of cliff. I will have to read the next book in the trilogy to see where and what happens to these characters. I wish you all the best with your Gothic saga. (PS...As we have become friendly I would like to offer this bit of advice...Not because I am a writer, I am telling you this because I am a reader and I want your book to do well...For a short story I can't see many people in the UK paying nearly £6 for an eBook...Even big named Writers like Stephanie Myers, Sylvia day don't go that high for a full length novel) Good Luck!
I simply loved this book. The romance and mystique had me in its grip. Dante is my man. He is charming and captivating. This story starts out simmering as the couple are at odds with one another, then BAM they are locked in a passionate play of their bodies, minds and souls. Darkness in a lighter way permeates throughout. I am working on reading the series. The intrigue with this particular book is that it is just the beginning. What will happen next I am sure will be more than we could ever fathom. I highly recommend reading. There are however some authors notes, so do not let that phase you out of reading the rest of this delicious book.
Mystery, intrigue, and an overwhelming gothic theme await you in the book Gothic Gates by R. M. Simone. Dante is a well to do party host, with gothic mansions all over the world catering to the needs of the rich. During one such party, Samantha, a humble delivery girl, falls into Dante's web. She is pulled into the party in progress and quickly seduced, but there is more to this chance meeting then first meets the eye.
Gothic Gates is a story of great promise and not so great execution. The beginning is full of author notes, short writings and other things that leave you wondering when the story actually begins. By the time you get to the book, you are left confused and unsure as to what you have just spent all this time reading. Once into the story, the premise is quite interesting, but the execution of the story leaves quite a bit to be desired. There are several basic grammar and spelling errors that also distract from the read.
The story seems to progress quickly without much understanding as to why the characters are making the choices they are. It almost appears that a light switch is flipped and suddenly the characters, that did not seem to like each other at all, were suddenly all over each other. Nothing really explains the sudden pull toward each other. The lead male character, Dante, is some sort of immortal with vast stamina. Even though this is a Paranormal Romance, some of the bizarre things are a little too farfetched. An immortal may have stamina for days, but most mortals still have to stop for necessities now and then.
However, the story continues on, and becomes quite interesting. There is just enough mystery to keep the reader going without leaving them completely confused. The characters start to develop more and there is explanation to why the characters do some of the things they do as well as their strange meeting.
Halfway through the book, there is another rather long author's note that disrupts the flow of the story. It was near this point that the point of view changed several times between Dante and Samantha as well as between first person and third person, making the story rather confusing. The word "goth" is over used. Yes I understand that this is a gothic story and setting, however, reading the word over and over made it ring out in my mind in an over dramatic way after a while. It was simply used too many times when it was not needed at all. As a reader, once it is explained, there is little need to use it as a descriptive word.
Over all, the story has a great concept. I honestly enjoyed the story itself, however there was a lot to be desired in set up and editing which led me to not enjoy the story as much as I am sure I would have been able to had these errors not been there.
" The Dark side of Love" This book is amazing!. The Art in this book is just incredible!. You will find this book to be a wonderful and interesting read. The characters are fantastic!. And the story line will have you wanting to read more and more which will make it very hard to put down!. Samantha (Sam) Devon Huntington is helping a friend who runs a courier service to deliver a package to Dante' Allric Aquillard. Who would think delivering a package could lead to such mystery? . When Sam finds the address it is a Gothic mansion. A Man in a masquerade Mask answers the door. Sam is informed that to deliver the package she must dress in a Gothic out fit and mask. Sam loves her costume but is puzzled as to why she must dress up to deliver a package? Sam finds out the man who answered the door was no other then Dante himself LOL and he had arranged for Sam to deliver the package. Who or what is this sexy Man? What does Dante really want with Sam? There are lots of twists and turns to this story with lots of suspense,Mystery and amazing sex scenes plus some red hot Romance!. I must say the Art in this book really brings the story to life. R.M Simone' is a fantastic writer with an Artistic Eye. This writer is new to me and I am very pleased to have been introduced to her books! I can not wait to see where this story is going!
I fell in love with this love story of the past, present and maybe future. You will have to buy the book to understand what i mean . Samantha-Devon and Dante are just tenderhearted almost fairytale that have lots of twist and turns in it.You can most diffidently feel the passion of Roshandra's writing is breathless she pours her heart and soul into her story you can just feel it it is so epic. Yes the book says Gothic in some way it is but not in the way teenagers today define it i am not so sure.I think there is a little dark in all of us we just have to try to keep on the right path and pray to the Lord for his grace and forgiveness the world isn't always black and white there is Grey. This books has Immortals, evil, good, love ,hot sexyness (Dante),Steamy love scenes that make you day dream just if only that could happen to me ? The Passion that Dante pours out for Devon is beyond the Stars. I give this a 5 Star Read it is a must buy in my opinion for your library.
I was quite surprised and unsure about what was going to happen next in the book. It had me enthralled – a beautiful journey. From a male point of view I loved this book. It was refreshing and a page turner. This was the first fiction book I had read in years. I started reading the book on my kindle and at 10% when she was going to the party and had to take her knickers off – I was addicted and wanted to know more…..! Two very powerful characters – a female and male connected maybe by more than just time and space. There is a lot more to going on as a back drop to the story and as you read deeper, you get little snippets revealing the powers of the occult power and darkness that sit at the fringes of this love story! I just bought Gothic Gates Venice part 2 as well as Roshandra’s new book Alchemy, the Gold Ring This book will inspire your imagination and energise you world!
This book is hot!! Dante is sexy, mysterious and oh so intriguing. Samantha is smart, sassy and independent. This makes for fireworks every time they collide. Samantha is sent to deliver music tracks to a creepy Gothic mansion late at night. She arrives thinking to hand the music off and depart quickly. Fate has other ideas. She is forced to become costumed to blend in with the party in order to even meet the elusive host, quickly realizing he is the same man who opened the door and refused to take the music initially. This angers her and more fun ensues. No spoilers, but it gets even hotter from there. This is a story of fated lovers separated by time and fate who finally make their way back together. It is beautiful and a great read! I’m excited for the rest of the series honestly. Highly Recommended!!
Such an awesome read!! I was hooked on this book from the first page. Author Simone has created such great characters that are hard not to love and her description of clothing and surroundings is wonderful.
Samantha (Sam) is making a delivery for a friend and her world gets turned upside down. But, Sam is no push over and stands her ground to get what she wants. But then again, why would you put up much of a fight against a hottie (Dante) who wants to ravish you A LOT?? Yeah, I don't see a problem either!
Dante has another side to him that he wants to reveal to Sam when he feels she is ready and he doesn't want to push her to fast.
I don't want to give any spoilers away because this book is HOT and everyone should read it!!
Samantha is a courier and finds herself in a fancy mansion to deliver something, but with conditions. She arrived when a party was in session, and she has to dress up in alluring Gothic wear in order to make her delivery. That’s when she meets Dante, who’s sexy, tall, and British. The two fall into a steamy relationship, with much ambivalence on her side. He also wonders about his strong feelings for her.
There was a nice revelation in the middle hinting at the paranormal, as Dante is an immortal. I wanted to know more about this thread in the story and was pleased to read, towards the end, that the story will continue.
Overall, this is a fast, engaging, and very steamy read.
In the Divine Comedy, Dante tells us about his mystical passage through the Inferno, Purgatory and, finally, to Paradise. Dante falls in love with Beatrice and that, for me, is the metaphor for love. Roshandra Simon has conjured up in Gothic Gates her own mysterious Dante and provided the alluring Samantha as his object of obsession. This is Gothic-erotic at its best and readers who feel at the end they want more - what woman doesn't? - will be relieved to know that Samantha will be donning her Goth persona in future journeys into the heart of Paradise.
While I don't generally read gothic romance, I found this story to be quite compelling and a welcome shake-up to my typical to-be-read list.
R.M. Simone paints a beautiful picture in Gothic Gates. One of the things I find most compelling about a story is the author's voice and hers shines on every page. The imagery is both beautiful and sensual and I found myself reading this story from start to finish, unable to put it down. I loved the hero, Dante - a very sexy man indeed!
Gothic Gates is not to be missed! I look much forward to seeing future stories from R.M. Simone!
Wow! Where to begin? First, let me start out with: This is NOT my typical genre of choice. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this read.
Roshandra has a unique way in her writing style. That being said, it took some time for me to adjust my own reading style. Not being a fan of short stories, again, I was pleasantly surprised with this book and find myself wanting more.....NOW!
I don't want to give spoilers, nor fill you in on the story itself, but I see this book going a long way once you adapt to it's flow and see where it's going. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
A good book in my mind is one that you can't put down, you do the dishes one handed just so you don't have to stop reading. Unfortunately, this was not one of those books. I even considered putting to book away for a few days and try reading it again. This was not the case in fact, it made me get mad that this storyline fell into the wrong hands and would not be told the way it was meant to be told. Cont. on Blog This book is not worth $7.99 it wouldn't even be worth your time if it was free.
In this story we read about Dante, Immortality, and love. I can't go into too much detail without giving away parts of the story. Gothic Gates is well written and very vivid. It is very easy to care for the characters. Simone definitely keeps you wanting more when it comes to her writing. You can visualize everything and feel every emotion. This is definitely a worthy read.
Gothic Gates. Second book read by this author. Mysterious man opens the beautiful estate Goth mansion door and there stands the courier with the music ordered for the event. It turns into an orchestrated and maybe a pre-designed meeting by the man at the door. This man is beyond enigma. He is rich, has a world around him of the wealthy that can do parties of this nature and wears a Venice mask. Oh, it gets better. He figured out a way to get her to dress up and then pay her down in the mansion Cellar. The man wants to make love to her and boy the chemistry strikes fire. I loved how she pushes back and how calm he has to stay to handle this meeting and the package. It's a past life love waiting to rekindle and he knows where he wants this to go. His heart was yearning for her and could not stop reading this. There seems to be a double level story going on. More of a classic Noir it seems. Dante has a business and group of immortal men he meets for some reason about world balance? That seems to be part of his double life he leads. Loved this and reading the series now.
Spellbinding new Gothic romance. An unsuspecting, knows her own mind heroine, Samantha, accepts a one time job of courier to bring a high dollar music order to an elite gothic castle. The stage for seduction is set the moment she steps through the wrought iron gothic Gates and enters the realm of Dante. A to die for, mysterious hero steeped in the realms of of dark luxury, immortal power and erotic pleasure. As soon as Samantha enters the castle, she is immediately swept up into the enchanting world of a Gothic castle ball. She is redressed at the bidding of her host in a scintillating, gothic masquerade fashion then led to deliver the music to the master of the castle herself. Upon their very first meeting, sparks fly between this couple. Samantha’s fire meets Dante’s cool old world elegance in a clash of passion that will have the reader checking to be sure their kindle didn’t just overheat. If you love sexy, magical books then this one is a must read!
Gothic Gaets has been writen to put a vivid imagery to the readers when reading this stroy. When reading your reading from a male piont of view and you end up on A fantastic journey of power and love. The romance is so grste you meet Samantha who ends up being swept into a mysterious romance with a stranger that is only a stranger to her but not a stranger to him tho once reading you find out about immortal themes in the book and it just makes you want to keep reading and to find out more and what happen next it is a must read and would recamend to my friends and family.
It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well. The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremely well written and has fast become one of my favourites of all time. This book was full of many twists and turns that will keep you guessing what is going to happen until the very end. I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!! I absolutely adored reading this book and will be one clicking the rest of this authors work.
really enjoyed this story and the dynamics between Dante and Samantha.
Samantha is sent to an old gothic mansion to deliver a music package. But before she can deliver it she is told to get in costume, and finds a mask that was practically made for her then sets out to find Dante.
When she meets Dante it is electric and it is with a natural caution and nervousness that she follows Dante into the cellars for payment and receives more than just money for her efforts.
Their passion comes through the pages and they are a wonderful couple to continue to read about.
It was sexy and mysterious Erotic romance. It was The Phantom Of The Opera with a twist. I really love Dante very much and the story is a wow! If you want to get more of Dante. You can read Gothic Gates Dante's Voice.
Gothic Gates is a short story that I flew through in one sitting. Was the book intriguing? Yes! Was it a good story? Yes! But I did struggle with the authors notes in the beginning and towards the end. It made it a little disjointed but in the grand scheme of the short story, it's pretty minor.
Courier delivery leads our leading lady to Dante. The owner of the Gothic Masquerade parties aimed at the rich and wealthy. He is a man who knows what he wants and SHE is exactly that. The story gets interesting when we learn that he is in fact immortal. Thrown into board meetings about keeping the population of the human race (light vs dark) going all seemed a little odd and slightly confusing at times.
As the story develops and the history of their relationship/feelings towards one another come to surface, I'm feeling torn and in need of more! Not a cliff hanger necessarily but hoping that the next story will shed more light on the unanswered questions I have.
A short story that will transfer you into a parallel universe and make your head hurt a little but well worth a read. I can't wait to read more from R. M. Simone. (3.5 star rating)
*Review by Susan **Suggested for over 18s due to sexual content ***I was sent this EBook in exchange for an honest review
This is very different from what I usually read. I must say that it did not disappoint. It was a bit slow at the beginning but I did not mind seeing how it picked up. I do wish that it was longer. Reading about Devon & Sam just got me to wanting more!!
For a Goth Romance Mystery genre lover, this book has a great story line, vivid imagery, and is an overall sensual, sexually charged read. The illustrations are beautiful, further enhancing the novel. The major drawbacks, however, are serious needs for edits. There is need for added punctuation throughout the novella, and the many linguistic oddities make the writing choppy and the story confusing at times. If the author cleans up her work, the book would rate higher. I give the author kudos for passion about her work.
The first look you get of Dante and Sam. The leaps that Dante goes thru to meet Sam and seduce, shows just how much he wants her. Its goth meets Cinderella with a sexual undertone. Outstanding!!
Here's Gothic gates short story if you don't mind sharing Devon and Dantes is truly unique----I love it! From the masquerade parties and clothing to the love he is reminding her of. But I'm not quite sure what he is exactly yet but an immortal...he deals with dark and lights it's kinda puzzling so far...kept turning the page of gorgeous pics and the author bio and then DAMN! It ended.....
This story is fabulous! The romance between Samantha and Dante is sizzling hot! I love the gothic theme. This book left me breathless! Kudos to the author!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book.
