Atlas of the Qur'ân: An Authentic Collection of the Qur'anic Information with Maps, Tables and Pictures

Rate this book
An Authentic Collection of the Qur'anic Information with Maps, Tables and Pictures This Atlas is new in its subject, a subject that has not been touched before. It helps whoever recites the Quran or studies it to specify the locations mentioned by the Noble Verses, and to mark those places of ancient people mentioned in the Qur'an. This is besides locating areas where the incidents of the prophetic Seerah occurred. Eventually the diligent reader will easily recognize those places, learn about them, and take heed of them while reciting. Eventually the diligent reader will easily recognize those places, learn about them, and take heed of them while reciting. The Atlas has also revealed obscure places we used to pass through inattentively, like the site where Nuh's Ark settled, the site of the curved Sand-hills {Al Ahqah}, the cave of the young faithful men, the houses of median, the site of Sodom and other places determined by the Atlas depending on reliable sources. Thus the Atlas eliminates all the guessing and the fantasies we used to encounter when reciting the Noble Koran, and takes us to the specific place.

The maps could be a bit more clear to understand the actuality. Nevertheless this book is a keeper.

I stumbled upon this book at a used book store, and could not resist buying it, even though I am not a fan of Darussalam publishers. When I came home, I saw that this was actually a reprint of an Arabic publication by a Syrian publishing house, Dar Al-Fikr.

I was quite excited to read that, because I thought that this might actually be some reliable and enlightening work.

Unfortunately it was not.

The book has too many errors to count and there are zero citations. From Turkey, to Syria to Pakistan to India to Egypt, Islamic publications lack citations. Infact, they are written in the same style, which is about verbosity, inaccuracy and vagueness. Readers in these countries are used to such writings, so when some book comes up with anything that resembles a map, it automatically becomes scholarly.

The only few pages of this book, which contain reliable information, are about the battles that took place during the lifetime of the prophet. But that is hardly 10% of the book.

Darussalam has no knowledge of history. This publication refers to the Phoenicians, the Philistines, the Byzantines, and various other peoples of history, such as the Hyskos, by vague references, since their actual names, do not seem to be known to them. You can't publish historical books, without knowing how history has classified a people.

The book relies on Qasas-ul-Anbiya, which borrows heavily from Talmudic legends. It is not a reliable source. Near Eastern Studies is a discipline in prestigious American universities. Much archeological research has been undertaken to reveal findings. Darussalam seems to be living in an alternative universe, where they have no clue of these realities.

Saudi Arabia has a censorship on books, and the Arab world at large does not exactly engage in publishing and reading western texts, as they do, in India. Therefore, knowledge is scant, and publishing houses themselves know little of the contemporary world. But this cannot work as an excuse to print a book on the Qur'an that contains glaring factual errors. If Darussalam can operate offices in America and England, surely they are capable of procuring relevant reference material for authors to pursue specific projects. The current practice is entirely unacceptable.

A nice addition to my Quran reading and study. As the title suggests, you're able to get a clearer picture of where does each of the story in the Quran occur according to the maps. It helps in shedding light and providing better context in my understanding of the Quran. Though it must be said that there's no legit references from where exactly did the author pinpoint each exact location of the said prophets and all, but honestly I think it is a nice complementary reading to accompany any Quranic study.

KETIKA MELIHAT COVER DAN MEMBACA JUDULNYA, HARAPAN SAYA SANGAT BESAR UNTUK MEMDAPATKAN BUKTI ILMIAH KEBERADAAN TEMPAT-TEMPAT YANG DICERITAKAN DALAM AL-QURAN, DISERTAI GAMBAR ARTEFAK ATAU FOSIL YANG ADA, MAKA AKAN MENAMBAH KEYAKINAN DAN KEIMANAN. TETAPI BUKU INI GAGAL MEMENUHI HARAPAN SAYA, ISINYA DIDOMINASI OLEH POTONGAN-POTONGAN TERJEMAHAN TAFSIR. BAHKAN PETA-PETA YANG DISAJIKAN SANGAT SULIT DIMENGERTI.
SAYA BERANGGAPAN BAHWA PENULIS TIDAK PERNAH MELAKUKAN RISET SECARA ILMIAH, BELUM PERNAH MENGUNJUNGI TEMPAT-TEMPAT ITU, SEHINGGA TIDAK MAMPU MENYAJIKAN BUKTI-BUKTI ILMIAH KEBERADAAN TEMPAT-TEMPAT YANG DICERITAKAN AL-QUR'AN.
MEMBACA BUKU INI TIDAK UBAHNYA SEPERTI MEMBACA TAFSIR ALQUR'AN, JADI SEKALIAN AJA BELI BUKU TAFSIR.

I feel so happy to find out this book! It has great information (islamic and historic) which is interesting for all readers from all religions and nations. In addition to all of the above, the language of the book is clear and easy to understand (I could understand it even though I am a native Arabic speaker). But I have important note for anyone who is willing to read this book: You should have a background about the Arabic map, prophets stories, and Seerah of prophet Muhammed, you should also have a good looking at the Quran or should be Hafiz, otherwise you might get lost in some areas of the book.

Rating this not for historical accuracy but because I appreciate it’s effort to visualise Qur’anic narratives through geography & history. It would benefit from clearer academic references and source citations.

Finished reading 392 pages of #atlasofthequran
.

So long the book is very interesting. I have read the Prophets' stories before but this makes it more interesting with integrated knowledge of maps, Quran verses, and their stories. I have always been attracted to history and Islamic history, like which era was Alexander and what was happening with Islam then... I am enjoying it. I'll update post after finishing it, Insha Allah
