HUNTER S. JONES is the pen name for USA Today best-selling author Deb Hunter. She's also a historical presenter for Past Preservers Casting. When she isn’t writing, talking or tweeting about kings, queens and rock stars, she’s living the dream in Atlanta, Georgia with her Scottish born husband.
Secrets From A Dangerous Time by Hunter S. Jones is a fast-paced escape. Back in time? Maybe? This is a curious tale that I ate up in one sitting. The vintage photos and historical maps are a nice touch and adds to the charm of this endearing story.
Easy to get absorbed into the unusual storyline that takes place in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. This is not your average boy meets girl story but it was sweet just the same. I could visualize being part of the scenery and I liked what I saw. There is romance brewing. Without a doubt!
Quote ~
"He smiled and I realized he was absolutely gorgeous. He had a twinkle in his eyes and a smile that would get him anything he wanted. His clothes were old and dusty. They looked like something from the 1800s. He must have been a movie extra or model. They shot a ton of films and commercials in the park; he had to be here for something like that. And, here I was, sitting on the ground with blood and dirt on my face. Just my luck. I get assaulted by the best-looking guy I've ever seen. But, if he kicks me one more time, I'm calling my attorney."
I could smell the air, feel the icy water, and scrape off the mud as I read this story. When I wish I was the main character, I know it is superb. Liked the photos and the "documents of interest" and other supporting historical additions. Looking forward to the next story. What I really want to know is the recipe for that herbal elixir they're drinking...
I've never read a story quite like this one, and it completely blew me away! Modern day businesswoman Casey King visits Chickamauga Park in Georgia one October afternoon. A tumble hurls her into 1873 where she is found by tall, hunky Dr. Garrett Cleighton. “What I want to know, as a man, is why you aren’t wearing a corset and why your breasts are in some kind of harness.” He exhaled the smoke slowly and continued, “But, as a gentleman, I’d best not be asking about such things. Why don’t you explain to me what you do in Atlanta all day?” I loved the blend of contemporary with the South of the past. The historical elements are added in such a creative way. Anyone who loves romance, histfic, history or a good old fashioned American story will enjoy this. I look forward to story 2 in this series!
Not often taken by time-slip / travel novels this book had me after a few pages. The main character and her voice felt close and familiar quickly, her perception of the new surrounding of post Civil War Chattanooga, Tennessee impressed me deeply. Her modern perspective of a time without cars and big cities is very well portrayed and realistic, making me imagine what it would feel like for me, too. The historical value of the novel is not to be dismissed either. Not familiar with this particular region and period I learned a lot, while enjoying the action and romance parts very much, too. Great suspense and very engaging writing make this a real contender. Quite impressive and highly recommended.
This is a story that will keep you enchanted from beginning to end. Casey King is believable and I found myself identifying with her. Dr. Garrett Cleighton is dreamy. This is a fast paced historical adventure story blended into a time slip, which makes it easier to read than most historical fiction. I loved the elements of steamy Victorian Romance mixed throughout the story. I loved the pictures and historical elements--they bring the past to life. Now, I can't wait to find out what plot twists story 2 will bring.
Really enjoyed this love story that took us back to another place and time. I liked how the book mixed the Civil War era with a contemporary romance. It was really a story that I will remember for a long time to come. I liked the characters Dr. Cleighton and Casey. Their romance story developed well and I thought that the author did a great job with the setting. I felt like I was really there during the Civil War era and it felt as though it was the 1800's. I think that the title fits the book perfectly along with the cover. Will be checking out more work from this author!
I got this in exchange of an honest review, I was captivated by the description of the plot and I am happy that I got this one its a sweet romance between a doctor and a young woman its is filled with mystery drama love history action suspense that will keep your guessing wondering and reading the whole time I admit that I am not a person that liked to read about war times or post apocalypses but this one got to me I hope to get my hands on the rest of this series
Secrets from a Dangerous Time is a short, wild ride. The author took me to a place in history that I knew nothing about. Now I want to know more. Lots more! Sparks fly between Garrett Cleighton and Casey King, so you have to believe that romance is on the horizon. (He had me from the term 'velvet tinged drawl')
This is a time travel story which is well worth your time. 5 Big Stars From Me!
Hunter S. Jones' "Secrets from a Dangerous Time" is a serial collection. I read the first short story. So far, it's an interesting start. I like the concept. The chemistry between the leading lady, Casey, and Cleighton is palpable. I will definitely continue on with this serial to see how the plot thickens!
A clever and unique story set during a pivotal and controversial time in our history, Like many of Jones' books, this one is a marriage of well-written prose and mixed media. I delighted in the photographs, historical documents, and even the lovely formatting. If you haven't read one of Jones' books yet, this is a great one to one-click. You won't regret it!
