The war between man and beast begins ...

The Vallerio Forest : Millions of acres of undeveloped land, cut off from the outside world by giant fences, armed guards, and government edicts. It's widely considered an ecological paradise. But beneath its majestic canopy lies a dark underbelly of strange creatures, secret facilities, and horrifying experiments.

Five months ago, survival expert Zach Caplan swore off the wild and moved to New York City. But when trouble strikes his ex-girlfriend, famed biologist Amanda Morgan, he must return to the forest that nearly destroyed him. This, however, will prove far more difficult than he could ever imagine.

For something is stirring within the Vallerio. Something ancient, something deadly. And as Caplan fights to untangle the terrifying truth about the dark forest, he will come to an inescapable conclusion. The fate of humanity is in his hands ... and one wrong move could mean extinction.

Behemoth is an action-packed, twisty apocalyptic adventure, perfect for fans of Jurassic World and King Kong as well as for readers of Greig Beck, Jeremy Robinson, & Preston & Child. This thrilling tale will leave you gasping for breath and eager for more!

Great

This was a great book. I read all sixty-one chapters in one day. If you liked JURASSIC PARK, then this is the book for you. I'm looking forward to the sequel. I gave it five stars and I'm very stingy with five star reviews.

Not a bad book and I had a hard time figuring out how I would rate this. The action scenes where exciting and kept you wanting more, which the short chapters piggybacked on making it possibly to go through 10, 15, 20 chapters without realizing it. Unlike other readers, I liked the multiple character perspectives that added multiple layers to the mystery.
What dragged it down for me was the awful understanding of ecology and evolution etc. Without getting into a lot of actual science, the book reads like the author knows enough science sound bytes to create motive, but that's it.

I like stories about "oddities" such as "critters" that are different than what we are familiar with, stories with a bit of science fiction to them, but not necessarily "Alien" in nature. For that reason, this book piqued my curiosity. Now I have finished reading it, my "curiosity" is satisfied, but I do not feel compelled to take it any further, so I won't be reading the entire series.

The tale was interesting, it moved along at a fairly quick pace. I would have enjoyed a better understanding of the lead characters, but maybe that comes when you continue with the series. I didn't find enough information about them in this first book to say I really connected with any of them.

For the beginning of a series, it was well enough, but not compelling enough to keep me interested enough to go looking for Book #2 or #3, whatever.

A DM. SYFY. Novel (APB. - 1)/ A Walk in the Presence/A Walk in the Pass

DM. has. penned the first of two novels. The first being " The Behamoth" and the "Savage", which are alleged prehistoric animals located in a lab under strict control. The system works until a terrorist organization cross the line by kidnapping the old man's granddaughter. He calls upon a man who had worked for him, but had left vowing never to return. His granddaughter has been left in a prehistoric era and needs to be rescued. The hidden factor in This novel is the HA-78 virus. This is an excellent read for the Genre.....DEHS

Fast-moving page-turner of a book! I have read other books by the same author and enjoyed them, but this one tops the rest. I stopped short of five stars for just two reasons. First, the main villain's motivation. Risk of spoilers! I felt the science was weak; no good explanation for the big event the villain was expecting, and anyway wouldn't natural selection compensate? And second, the reader could see from a mile off that the hero was being duped, and the (otherwise able) hero just came across as a bit dim. Overall, an enjoyable read.

Not a bad first installment. A bit slow at first but worth working through. Interesting story concept.

Kind of a Jurassic Park genre story. Interesting story that started a bit slow but picked up speed and was worth finishing. Worth reading. I will check out the second installment.

Here kitty

Not a bad book. A little short, and I'd have liked to have seen more of the animals.
I mean, come on. You call the book Behemoth, yet most of the book has little to do with them.
Still enjoyable, though I am unsure if I will read book two yet.

too unique that it comes off bad

It was simy believable upentill the behemoth part has it really shows a complete unscientific explanation to help understand the story it more used vague scientific ideas to explain it with out really explaining anything.

Cool book in a crazy world on the brink of something huge. Jurassic Park meets Lost with the addition of a fast paced action thriller. Much faster than those stories. Found myself sucked in and then couldn’t put it down!

Great read

I really enjoyed the character development. The story line was easy to follow even though it went back and forth. It was very believable, with what is going on with our environment and advances in science.

Not much to it.

There wasn’t much to this story you just start to read it and it ends. The storyline doesn’t even begin to get built out. It was a waste of time.

For the first 3/4 of the book it was an enjoyable, thrilling ride. Then it veered in a direction where my suspension of disbelief failed me completely.

Typical Sci-Fi story

This was a good story. It would make a good Sci-Fi movie I think. The plot is twisty to say the least, but the elements in it come together by The end. The characters are the typical characters in a book like this. At first I didn't know if they were worth giving a flip for, but by the end of the book they seem to have grown on. Should warn you there is a sequel to this book.

I certainly loved the movies "Jurassic Park" and "Lost World;" as much as I loved the movies, Crichton's books were even better. David Meyer's "Behemoth," the first entry in his "Apex Predator" series, falls into the same genre. One reviewer said that if you liked "Jurassic Park"," then you will love this book. That statement is fairly true; however, "Behemoth" is not quite as well written. I found the beginning to be a bit confusing as it seemed to jump all over the place leaving me a bit confused. Each early chapter introduced different character(s) in different situations; however, the shifts were so abrupt that for a few chapters, I wondered if it were the same story.

As Meyer developed the story and characters and plot slowly unfolded, the plot slowly came into focus for the reader. I liked his characters as I began to understand the story. Some were a bit two dimensional and predictable, but overall, his main characters were nicely developed. Although confusing at the beginning,h is protagonist Zach Caplan is a survival expert who must overcome a host of deadly predators. As well, his strong willed former girlfriend is developed as an intelligent, strong female character. Despite my criticisms, "Behemoth" is a good book, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes that genre. I just "loved" Crichton's "Jurassic Park," and I liked "Behemoth." Regardless, I'm looking forward reading the next one in Meyer's "Apex Predator" series to see where he takes it.

Amazing! This is the best book that I've read in a long time.

Meyer is truly the master of the unexpected. Just when you think you know what's going on, the story takes another exciting twist and heads down another direction. The hero, Zach Caplan, is a survival expert who must overcome a host of deadly predators to save humanity from extinction. I love the way that Meyer gets inside the head of Caplan, who is tormented by past memories of failure and lost love.

The author has a gift for describing action and scenes and the story rolls out like Steven Spielberg movie, but be warned, the mayhem is so lifelike, you'll want to check your doors to make sure they're locked at night!

I can't wait to read Book 2 in Meyer's Apex Predator series.

The potential of something like this is scary! I enjoyed the book, and will definitely read the sequels!

I really did enjoy this well written novel! I have read other books by this author and found that all of those I've read, have characters you can really like (or not, for the evil ones) and the storylines are very thought provoking -- made me wonder if anyone in the science community is working on something like what is created in this book! Could it ever be real? It's a very scary possibility!

Outstanding! If you liked Jurassic Park, you're going to love Behemoth!
The tale is gripping! Meyer had me right from the very first page. I simply could not put this book down. Meyer truly has a gift for creating an action-packed story based on the latest in scientific breakthroughs. The suspense builds to a crescendo as the hero Zach Caplan faces a series of cliffhangers in order to save mankind from extinction.
I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the Apex Predator series!

Tried to finish this. I really did.
I got through a large portion of it before I couldn't take it any more.
A main character that is totally non-engaging. Really, I hoped he'd die so someone else would step up.
Segments that jump ALL OVER the place.
Too confusing most of the time, and lots of things that annoy.

Wow! What an emotional and thrilling read that was. I was so surprised by the main character on how he handled the whole turn of events. He is not the typical hero for such a book. The way that the author did the perspective shifts kept me on my toes trying to work out where everyone was converging and how it would effect the outcome

Just a great read

Peace out

A good syfi novel should at least have to thread of believability in it. Nothing about this story is remotely believable . I finished it, but didn't like it.
