Flowers vs Zombies: Contagion - a review by Rosemary Kenny

As with earlier novellas in this series, there are two separate parts: the first, Contagion, is an engaging snapshot of what the Flowers' hoped their island Paradise would be, after their long and bloody battles with the rabid zombies and the destruction they caused while trying to feast on the Flowers' blood. We learn how doctor Bill, Liz and their boys have rebuilt the family's tree-house home, reconnected the water supply and are finally able to relax and revive in the sun with their pets and friends around them.
Just when all seems well they each succumb to a debilitating illness and panic sets in - has the virus found them in their Eden-like haven? If so, how did it come to be in the previously unpolluted nirvana? And more importantly will they survive it with no outside help at all?

Part II - SPARK - is even more apocalyptic in its theme; having overcome and eradicated the virus, they are hopeful that Fate has nothing more deadly in store. Sadly, they are soon disillusioned as it turns out the virus has created a new faster type of 'super-Zombie' they name the Spinner, which is extremely difficult to kill, unlike the earlier evolutions.
How can they catch and kill this and any other Spinners? If they can't, how will they escape when they're marooned on the island they've grown to love? Have all their battles and hard work been for nothing?
You'll have to read the multi-talented Perrin Briar's next section of this fascinating series to find out!

I have a strange version with part 1 & 2 where part 2 is called Genesis and appears to be the first book in this series. Unfortunately I started at the beginning which must be book 3.
Not sure, if this is the right place for the review of
part 1 - wrecked
and why there is no proper naming and numbering of this series by the author.

Wrecked
This must be book 3 in the series, as the Flower family is on the island since 5 month but paradise might soon be lost as there is a cruise liner shipwrecked on the beach. Will they finally fall victims to the zombie virus?
The book is well paced, although still sometimes written like a stage script (short describing sentences). And Mr. Flower seems to give a prep talk before each big battle in the books.
Also, I thought 5 months to be a short time to build such good relationships with their animals and pets but I guess it was an intense period of time. Maybe when I find out which one is book 2 that goes inbetween the two "parts" I have read, I can find out....

Book 3, leaves you wanting more!!!

A new, weird type of Zombie, the Flowers call Spinners show up. As if the regular Zombies weren't bad enough. The Spinners are harder to destroy, constantly moving, flipping around. Can our intrepid family figure out how, before they get badly injured?

Action packed

You get to know and love these characters. Rooting for them throughout all their hardships and feeling their love for one another. I just wish there was a clearer picture on the zombie virus. Maybe some clue about the outside world. Maybe medical equipment washing up or water proof box of batteries for the radio. We know their evolving (zombies) but ......

I am pretty impressed with Perrin Briar and his modest series. The books are fairly well written, the character development is also quite decent. I can only imagine that it is fairly difficult to write in a genre that is already heavily saturated with competition, albeit Perrin Briar does well.
