An alliance forged through marriage.  The cost?  One Man’s dream.

Tristan dreams of the day he’ll succeed his father as the next Warlord of Markaytia.  Elves—creatures famous for their darker passions—approach the Markaytian king with an offer he can’t refuse: an alliance with the Elves for the one Tristan Kanes.

Tristan is forced to give up his dream.

He’s not thrilled, but Tristan is a man of duty above all else.  What choice does he have?  He cannot refuse the king or Markaytia. He begrudgingly comes to terms with the arranged marriage. Is he a tad sour about it?  Yes, but he’ll get over it.

Probably.

Maybe it won’t be so bad.  Elves have cool weapons, maybe he’ll get one?

Corrik bans him from cool weapons.

Corrik’s seen Tristan’s gruesome death on the point of a sword in a prophetic vision.  He bans Tristan from picking up a sword ever again.  Tristan wants to accept the marriage with grace to make his people proud, but he resents Corrik for his remorseless attitude over his life’s work.

Facing the Ice Prince and himself.

Tristan’s conflict follows him on the journey to the mysterious Elven land of Mortouge.  He hates Corrik for taking him from the life he loved, boy does he, but his new Elven husband is an enigma and he’s captivated.  He sets Tristan’s blood on fire and freezes it at the same time.  Corrik unravels Tristan’s true nature and despite his best efforts, Tristan falls for his ice prince.

But Corrik won’t bend.

Can these two find a suitable compromise?  Or will Tristan’s resentment and Corrik’s arrogance ruin forever their chance at love?

Tristan by Mock (S. Legend) is a gay romance fantasy featuring enemies to lovers vibes, an age gap, arranged marriage, first times, and a happy ending (um, eventually). This is the first action-adventure romance in the Tristan Trilogy.  Mock may have written it down, but truly it’s told by your lovable host, Tristan Kanes.  He’s funny, sarcastic and while it may not seem it at times, he’s the real person in charge of this story.

Some of you know her as Mock, others as S. Legend, or Miss S. She welcomes all names but will often go by Mock, a name given to her by her readers.
Mock is an ambitious creative, weaving the most precious aspects of her soul into stories. She is an architect, building fascinating worlds, designed from inquiry, rooted in worldly wonderings. It’s an intuitive process where she is the scribe, the translator, the conduit.
It helped that storytelling was the language spoken at home. One simply didn’t say, “We have an ant infestation,” in Mock’s family it was, “I was on my way to the living room, when a peculiar ant crossed my path. I looked to my right, a suspicious line of them marched toward the pantry. In that moment I knew; my kitchen was under siege.” The natural flow of conversation always took this form.
And so.
When Mock wrote her first novel, she didn’t plan it chapter by chapter, there was no outline, no “plotting” to speak of. But she didn’t “pants” it either, she didn’t make it up as she went along. She knew how the story felt, where it curved in places and hollowed in others; she knew the destination it rushed toward. Instead of orchestrating, she let the world inspire her, and held space for the words to come, trusting the characters knew what they were doing. All she had to do was tell a story, as she always had done; like breathing.
This is her peace, her healing and solace: Gifts better shared.
Mock’s works are the comfort you seek when you need to come home. Her unique writing style will take you, wayfaring reader, to unexpected destinations.
She always says, “I’m not in the business of making up stories, I couldn’t if I tired. I’m lucky enough to get picked to share someone else’s story when I ask a question to the universe. Someone answers; I write it down.”

I loved this book and would have given it 5 stars right up until Tristan was abducted by the rouge elves. I could barely read it after that. It quickly went from 5 stars to 1 star. I managed to finish it , but I’m done. I just don’t like Tristan anymore so I don’t care what happens next.

Tristan
By S. Legend

Tristan (a human with dragon blood) has worked hard his entire life to train to be the next Warlord in his family until his father surprises him with a marriage to an elf, Prince Corrik, to secure a much sought after and envied alliance. His new husband is a to-beautiful-for-words giant elf, but he is also possessive and domineering and now controls Tristan's every action in and out of their bed which causes much friction in their relationship.

When Tristan is taken against his will by an old enemy of Corrik's his life takes a turn with another elf. Learning to be a slave isn't easy, but he feels as though he's betrayed his husband in more ways than one and is resigned to never being able to go back to him.

Right off the bat let me say this... This is my new favorite series! I absolutely loved this book and love book 2 so far. (Unfortunately 3 doesn't come out until next year. Boohoo) I love Tristan's personality. He's mischievous, innocent, sassy and bratty. While Corrik is definitely a dominant alpha type who has a problem with anger he still shows rare moments of care, worry, and insecurities, but mark my words he is no wimp or whiney. Prince Corrik is all alpha male. I loved Tristan's trouble-making cousin, Lucca, who has no filter. He was sweet and loved Tristan and it was hard to watch them part ways. Diekin was so much like Lucca. While Lucca could never be replaced, Diekin was great at filling in that empty spot in our hearts for Lucca.

I was unhappy with the direction the book took after Tristan was kidnapped. I guess I felt like Tristan did... that everything with Bayaden was a betrayal to Corrik. But that's just me. I'll have to see how it all turns out in the next book.

One question that was never answered was this... did Prince Corrik tell Tristan's family that he was kidnapped and thought to be dead?? The only thing that was mentioned was that Corrik's kingdom would honor the alliance even though Tristan was gone. I would have liked to have seen how his cold father would react to that news. I already know how his mother, papa and Lucca would react.

The book was almost exclusively in Tristan's POV. With only one chapter at the end in Corrik's. The angst level is on the low end of medium.

Intriguing and amazing world building

Great new to me author.
I was instantly pulled into this magical world.
I'm absolutely enjoying getting to know Tristan and Corrick.
There's hilarious banter between them along with plenty of angst as they butt heads coming from completely different worlds.
I love the take on BDSM and there's plenty of action, danger and suspense.
I can't wait to continue the story.

You guys. Send help. I just dived in this.. whole elf fantasy thing and that shit is so freaking good. I never expected to like a plot with a fantasy theme that has elves and humans and fuck knows what else because this is only book 1. Look. I'm not doing paranormalish. It's not a genre that I'm interested in but let me tell you. This was MIND BLOWING! 🔥

Okay. So we have this man named Tristan that kinda is a human prince. And I say kinda because he's also kinda a trainee warlord since he is SKILLED with swords. He has all these dreams and ambitions for his future about him becoming this amazing warrior that will protect his kingdom against every danger possible!

But life is a bitch. Or should I say the current king which also happens to be his uncle? I mean.. one day the man is having the fun of his life and the other day he's summoned by the king because he wants to announce him that he's now betrothed to an elf prince! Like come on. Where did that came from? My man lost the earth beneath his legs because the last thing he wanted was to be married off to some cold ass dude who gives him orders 24/7.

And this was a gentle way to describe Corrik. This dude. OMFG. THIS DUDE. I wanted to choke him so bad. He was bossy as hell! “No you're not allowed to touch yourself. No you will not touch a sword again. No you cannot disobey me and have a mind of your own. No you can't be too far away from me.”

WHAT THE FUCK DUDE!? Chill the fuck out. 😳 Do you know what saved him? The fact that he knows how to fuck 🥵 I mean.. first he says that he'll go gentle on Tristan but then proceeds to fuck the living shit out of him. I died 💦

So one is a brat and the other is a domineering freak. This is either a recipe for disaster or for explosive chemistry. You have to read the book to see that. 👀

This story is very interesting. It has lots of spanking, lots of punishing and also lots of tension and sex 🥵 Add to that the whole polyamory thing that the author served me.. and I'm telling you.. I am a GONER.

You know what.. fuck that. I'm a RUNNER. Because after that twist in the end?
Are you kidding me? Just take my money 💸 and give me book 2 already!! 😩🖤

I loved this novel so, so much! It was recommended on a MM book FB group and I'm so glad I downloaded it. This is easily one of my favorite books and the author is now of my favorite authors. I just loved the narrative arc - just so riveting that I couldn't put it down. I love the multidimensional characters - they're so Intriguing.

I’ve had a few days to process this book, and honestly, I’m still not sure I can fully do this review justice. This book took me on a bit of a rollercoaster, and not always in the best way.

The premise intrigued me: Tristan, a Warlord in training, is forced to leave everything behind for an arranged marriage to an elven prince, Corrick. It’s a fantasy story with BDSM/kink dynamics and strict roles, which is usually right up my alley—I’ve read plenty of books with the whole D/s dynamic and enjoyed them. But here? It all felt... a bit much, like it was trying too hard.

The world-building had potential and was mildly interesting at times, but it often felt overly complex or forced. And then there’s the “big secret” between Tristan and his papa that I thought was going to blow me away. Turns out, the earth-shattering revelation is… that Tristan’s a brat? That’s it? It just left me scratching my head, honestly.

I’ll admit, I almost DNF’d this one halfway through, but I pushed through to the end. There were moments where it was okay, and I did enjoy certain parts of the world that was created. But overall, the story didn’t completely work for me.

I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series. It wasn’t a terrible read, but it also didn’t leave me excited to see what happens next.

Even though I wouldn't call this a "dark story", it's not rainbows and sunshine. The first book sets up the trilogy and Tristan (our sassy MC) is at the beginning of his self-discovery journey when he's promised in an arranged marriage to the Elven ice prince, Corrik. The life he thought he was going to have is ripped away. And so my friends, there is some serious angst about that. He struggles. While yes there is some "modern terminology" (I like to think of this as progressive Markaytian) it's in a high fantasy setting. Life is a little harsher in these kinds of realms and the character's choices reflect that.

At its heart Tristan is a domestic discipline, spanking story starring the world's most lovable, bratty Ex-Warlord.

*****Everyone participating in sex in the book is mid-twenties and older. No minors here! All sex is consensual.*********

I'm really not sure what to say about this book. I'm struggling to share my thoughts and feelings on it without spoiling the plot.

This book is about Tristain and the trials he experiences in his life once he's been promised in marriage to form an alliance with the elves. I read the synopsis and formed my expectations of this book. They were pretty spot on until about 80% of the way through when I realised this book was going in a completely different direction then what I thought. It totally threw me for a bit, I wasn't expecting it to end this way. Ofcourse it ends on a cliffhanger with the next book out sometime this year.

I loved the way the story is told from Tristain's POV. The world building came naturally with no major info dumps. I recommed this to anyone who likes fantasy, au, d/s, d/d.

I had this book for months before I finally decided to read it, and now I’m kicking myself for waiting that long to “pick” it up.

I commend the author for creating a magical world that feels “real”. Her world building talent is one of the best I’ve read. It’s descriptive without being too over the top which sometimes can ruin the story for me. Her voice is clear and her writing is sophisticated and easy at the same time. Her dialogues are crisp and believable. Each chapter is set up beautifully for the next one, keeping me on my toes! I rarely read fantasy novels, but Tristan is so much more that that. It’s a story of struggle and love.

I’m so glad that I don’t have to wait long for the sequel!

I highly recommend this book and author, if you like fantasy, romance and steam!

I didn't feel any chemistry between the characters and they all fell very flat. The conflict also wasn't clear and it was quite boring. This was highly recommended to me so I'm super disappointed that I didn't enjoy it.

This was a very interesting tale.
I was at times annoyed with the MC, he saw himself as a certain way, but acted entirely different from his own self importance. As the story went on I could see that it was intentional. He is to be strong, and fearless, and a brat. I don’t think I have read anything quite like this before. I’m not sure how I feel about the last part of the story, and the way the MCs focus has changed. I feel like maybe everyone will be heartbroken in the end.
I’m off to start the 2nd book and see where it leads..

just…no

I’m just blown away by this book in a truly terrible way. It’s filled with rape and coercion and nobody respecting Tristan in an way, shape, or form. From his parents to his King to his best friend to his husband… no one gives him any basic respects and it’s horrible. I felt bad for Tristan the entire book and was not convinced about any of his ‘affectionate’ feelings. It seemed more like Stockholm or torture. I didn’t quite make it to the end of this book but I will not read anymore. I can’t. I’m upset I wasted a whole morning reading this.

This book was SO bad in the beginning, I almost dropped, but the writing is good and I was already over 30% so why not? But suddenly this became so much more? The ending it's really good and I must say, I believe this is the best triangle? Square? Whatever, it's the best triangle-like plot that I ever read, I >really< don't know who he's gonna choose and that's so fun!

A warlord’s son, an intimidating prince, and an arranged marriage all kick off the story in S. Legend’s Tristan. I am familiar with some of Legend’s other work, so I knew I could expect things like a domineering top, a bratty bottom, and a lot of spanking, and this story did not disappoint. Add on to that a wonderfully fleshed out fantasy setting and you’ve got a great book on your hands.

Tristan, our title and point-of-view character, is a warlord’s son and proud warrior, so when he learns that all of his plans for the future have been upended due to his family marrying him off to an elven prince for the sake of a peace treaty, he is understandably upset. And his husband-to-be, Corrik, does not make things easy for him, nor does Tristan’s own family! Many decisions get made without Tristan’s input or even awareness at times. For a lot of my reading, my inner soft-dom was wanting to throttle half of these people for not just telling poor Tristan what’s going on!

The relationship dynamic between the main couple is an interesting one, and one readers of my own stories will be familiar with, that of a dom and sub. Or top and brat, as is Miss Legend’s preferred terminology. I’ve read my fair share of arranged marriage stories with the added flavor of kink, and this one hits all the good spots. A mouthy brat, orgasm control, humiliation, and oh so many spankings.

The world and settings are introduced to us slowly, and you always get the feeling that there’s something more to learn about behind the scenes. We start off in human lands, then travel to the elves’ home, and there are even more locations that I can’t tell you about for fear of spoilers. Each location has their own culture and customs, and I wanted to learn about all of them.

Overall, even though I had a couple of issues with it, I really liked this book. Despite the fantasy setting, the characters feel like real people with real emotions and feelings - at least when they're willing to talk about them. The end of the book sets up a clear sequel, and I for one am eager to see where Tristan’s story leads next.

I would say this is 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.
Here's the thing, this book pushed me out of my comfort zone, BUT, even with that, it was a compelling read that I couldn't put down. So, big props to S. Legend for making something that pushed boundaries but kept me coming back for more. Tristan is a really fascinating character, and the world he is thrown into is more than he ever expected ( I feel you, Tristan) And when he's finally starting to understand his place, and the prince he's married, everything changes for him. I totally didn't see this coming, or the way that it developed once he was in this new place and new position. And I really didn't expect the change in dynamics. The ending left me hooked, and I am really looking forward to finding out what happens between Tristan, Corrik, and Bayaden.
Also...in case you're wondering...there was plenty of heat in this book too ;)

Tristan is the next in line to be the warlord of Markaytia, until he was told that he is going to marry an elf prince, Corrick. Poor Tristan he won’t be able to be a warlord and he is also stripped of his sword, he can fight again. He is now just a concubine. His life is completely turned and he doesn’t like it at all.

He is trying to be strong and accept his fate but he also like a little drama, any chance he gets he would annoyed Corrick, there is a little BDSM that is part of the story and Tristan is definitely submissive, he can’t help to gives himself to Corrick and like it. Overall this story was good, there’s so many twists and turns, Tristan and Corrick story continues and the next book!

A story of a human and the Elf that loves him.

A young Warlord, a peace treaty and the Elf prince that started it all.

I loved this story. It's full of adventure, shenanigans and spice. There were even a few times I found it funny.

It explains the roles of Doms and Subs in and outside the bedroom rather well. Some may see it as abuse, but if you don't understand the why's of Doms and Subs, this book might not be for you.

The only thing that bothered me was the amount of grammer errors, but other than that, it's a good read.

I found this book in an Amazon book search and was, I admit, a little reluctant to purchase. I don’t usually read fantasy genres sticking mostly to thrillers and romances taking place in the “real world”. However, I found myself unable to put it down once I started. This author knows how to keep you turning pages and stay up way later than one ought to.

The entire book took me on a roller coaster I’m not quite ready to dismount. I feel like we all have a little dragon inside us that yearns to shine but also craves to be tamed at the same time. I related to these characters each in a different way and I found myself rooting for them all in one fashion or another. Mrs. Legend you are gifted. I bought #2 in 5 minutes after finishing Tristen and I can’t wait to read what happens.

Take a bow lady! You were born for this! Fan for life!

"His cold purple eyes knew no warmth or sunshine and sat as sentinels atop the high bridge of his patrician nose...."

"We looked our identical sets of eyes into each other's." (And then the next sentence immediately goes on to talk about how their eye color is different....so not actually identical then.)

It was on that second one that I had to give up (that, and this guy has gone through warrior training and won the title of warlord heir basically and is old enough to get engaged, but yet acts like he's all of 12). I couldn't hang around to see what other flights of purple prose regarding sentinel eyes and un-identical identical eyes arose later.

I really enjoyed this book. It has some typical troupes i.e. arranged marriage, Dom Sub, enemies to lovers, but puts a nice twist on them with a full line up of fantasy elements. I couldn't put the book down and stayed up an entire night reading it. If you like two guys getting steamy, bdsm, and elvin magic I strongly recommend reading Tristan by S. Legend.

If you're looking for something that's well written with some humor and romance (plus those nice juicy scenes) this is the book for you.
The author brings the characters to life in a way that makes their world seem real and you end up upp and down about how Tristan Is acting (again).
And like any good first book in a series there is a cliffhanger.
