Supernatural Chronicles: The Skinwalkers

Rate this book
To walk between bodies, between species, between all races of humans--such is the life of a Skinwalker. Ahote, the son of the Great One is preparing to take his father’s place, to become ruler of those who move between the skins of his kind. That is until a letter is tacked to his door, a calling from The Noir--a letter whose blood-soaked words command obedience. Along with his life mate, Jaci, Ahote must find the voodoo priestess in the hopes that she hold the answers. Or, if the letter is correct, the veil between life and death will be torn, leaving the world open to creatures more vile than he.

Lila Felix is full of antics and stories. She refused to go to Kindergarten after the teacher made her take a nap on the first day of school. She staged her first protest in middle school. She almost flunked out of her first semester at Pepperdine University because she was enthralled with their library and frequently was locked in. Now her husband and three children have to put up with her rebel nature in Louisiana where her days are filled with cypress trees, crawfish, and of course her books and writing. She writes about the ordinary people who fall extraordinarily in wild, true love.

Having been introduced to the Dynamis series by another author, I didn't even know skinwalkers was a thing! That was a fun new supernatural species to be introduced to, and I plan to look more into Lila Felix's work. Her writing style excelled at 'showing not telling' about her characters Ahote and his mate, as we follow him through a life-changing familial revelation that involves New Orleans voodoo, impersonation, souls, revenge, love, forgiveness and acceptance. For such a short book, I was impressed at how deep and meaningful the tale became while still revolving around solving the mysterious but urgent mission of protecting the veil between the mundane and supernatural worlds. Having recently visited NOLA, I thoroughly enjoyed the swamp and voodoo descriptions that made me feel like I was right in the city again. A quick, unique, and nostalgic first book in the supernatural chronicles.

I was absolutely delighted to start this first book of which is sure to be an amazing, unique series. Felix did a fantastic job setting the stage and getting readers ready for what is to come.

In THE SKINWALKERS, Felix delves a bit darker in her writing. And I for one was excited to see it happen without it compromising her past work. Some of the scenes portrayed an edgier more adult sound. But all in all it was a great and suspenseful read.

After finishing book one I am excited for the next installment, THE WOLVES. 5 Stars from me!!

The Dynamis series is AWESOME! Skinwalkers was a fast sexy supernatural thriller I couldn't put it down! Lila Felix's gives us a world of full of dark magic suspense mystery and smokin' hot romance! I absolutely LOVED Ahote & Jaci they are wickedly funny a perfect match he's a sarcastic big bad alpha who's really head over heels in love with his woman lolz and she's a fiercely loving little firecracker! I really want to see more of them.. a must read! 5 stars all the way!!!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This series is going to be fantastic. The 1st book in this series of books is awesome.
The book moves quickly and is easy to get lost in. Being a Skinwalker doesn't seem easy, especially when your Father (The Great One) is hard and unfeeling.
This is a great start to the series and I would highly recommend it.

This wasn't great, and worse it could have been good…but it wasn't. The characters and their backgrounds and the whole Skin Walker thing should have been really interesting. Plus the H and h are already mated but just now starting to really get to know each other. I mean, all the ingredients are there, but it's just… boring. The characters seem only half-formed and dull. The hero is supposed to be the next Alpha, but he's just kind of wishy-washy, and a little annoying. The "big event" is uneventful, and along the way only a few things make sense and all the dramatic parts are pretty tame. Plus there are tons of typos, misspellings, and format problems. I can usually deal with that but the extra words, especially ones that don't make sense, and when sentences are written twice in a row but slightly altered… it just drives me nuts.
It has potential, and the world it's set in seems interesting. I'm reading this in the anthology along with the rest of the stories for this collection so hopefully it will get better. And if these characters come back around, hopefully they develop personalities.

"Supernatural Chronicles: The Skinwalkers" is the third story I’ve read by Lila Felix, and once again I loved it!

Felix has such a way with words. The language made me fall in love with the tale of Ahote, a soon-to-be Alpha Skinwalker. The words she used were so imaginative for commonplace locations, people, etc. For instance, “shaken and stirred crowd” (bar patrons), “underbelly of life” (swamp), “her voice was all hot chocolate and cookies” (warm and sweet), and “sludge on waders” (thick, dark coffee). Her words give me goosebumps. I aspire to such greatness.

As usual, I found Felix’s work well-written (despite some errors that missed editing) and well-researched. I checked all the locations mentioned in "Skinwalkers" just to see if they were real places. I even found an angel gracing a small tomb in the New Orleans Cemetery.

The characters were memorable in this novella. I loved Hamni. She was so raw and earthy. Her resentment rang clear along with her concern for Ahote. Jaci was the loving mate with backbone and a ‘fear nothing’ attitude. And, Ahote was the young man struggling with solving a riddle while adhering to traditions. He was an admirable character whom I want to know more about.

"Skinwalkers" is an original, great story! I loved the concept of finding the pieces of a relic and solving a puzzle. Can’t wait to read the next novella. I’m not giving away the clue….

This first book in the Supernatural Chronicles follows a skinwalker alpha couple who are tasked with locating a scared relic in the hopes of keeping the Veil (which safeguards the powers and abilities of all paranormals) from splitting and leaving the paranormals powerless.

Skinwalkers are a creature like any animal shifter, except that they can take the form of ANY and ALL creatures (including humans), rather than any one specific animal.

Ahote is an alpha-heir skinwalker and part-human who has never felt respected by his fellow skinwalkers. He is determined to prove himself worthy of the title 'Alpha' by deciphering the meaning behind the scroll he has received from The Noir (whom I understand to be a single female who's summoned them, though it's not entirely clear). He will do anything to protect his people, including ask the woman who abandoned him when he needed her most for help.

It seems as if the Veil is threatening to come to ruins. What it will mean for the future of his people and all paranormals is yet to be determined. But one thing is certain: It will take the efforts of many to maintain the Veil that protects them all.

This is the first in the series about various supernatural communities trying to fulfill a quest to repair The Vale before it tears and lets all manner of evil into the world of humans. Each species is led to a crypt in New Orleans to make their specific sacrifices to The Noir in order to repair the Vale before it is too late.

This is the first I've heard of Skinwalkers, a supernatural species able to shift into any form, man or animal they want. It is an interesting story, but the poor editing is very distracting and to me, spoils the book. There are way too many grammatical errors that interrupt the flow of the story; this is one of my pet peeves and I can't understand why any author wouldn't take the time and effort to make sure each sentence makes sense. In my personal opinion good editing makes a good author.

When I first found out about this project so many of my favs were taking part in, I was so excited! I love all supernatural creatures and the writing styles of many, with the pleasure of meeting some new authors as well. Miss Felix starts us off with a dark seedy side of the Skin walkers, a lesser known among the supernatural world. Ahote and his mate are on a mission that brings about long buried secrets and a chance to right some wrongs. Though a short story meant to intermingle a deeper purpose for all creatures, it still gave plenty of history without feeling like a text book while playing out the cryptic adventure to save the world that shows a love and kinship. I was hooked and can't wait to read the next chapter, wolves!

Interesting, but missing something

I've only read two other books about Skinwalkers and this wasn't what I was expecting. I did find this version better, but the grammar or errors throughout made it difficult to enjoy it. Not to mention how hard it was to relate. The main character came across a little wimpy compared to everyone around him. I don't think that was the intent and yet it felt that way to me. That isn't to say that I wasn't hoping for more from him because oddly, for the most part, I liked him.

Short stories are not usually my thing because so much seems to get lost. This did a decent job of setting up for the next part of the story. It just needs some editing to make things a little clearer.

Skinwalkers are supernatural being who can walk between species and human races. Ahote, the seventh son of a seventh son, is ready to take his place as the Skinwalker Alpha after his father. Instead he must solve and complete a mission left by the The Noir, or the bounds of life and death and good and evil is rend. Ahote and his life mate, Jaci, must find and convince the already angry voodoo priestess to assist.

The Skinwalkers is the first book in a series of intertwined stories by separate authors. A wonderful start and an interesting way to combine vastly different supernatural beings and tales from different authors. I am looking forward to all of the books.

I received a free copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.

As the first book in the Dynamis series, Skinwalkers sets the tone and the plot. The veil between living and dead is thin and sacrifices are needed to keep it from opening. Very well written (love Lila Felix!), this story draws you in. Set in New Orleans in the world that tourists don't see, Ahote and his mate Jaci race against time to satisfy the demands of the Noir to keep the veil closed. Can't wait to keep reading the series!

I bought this book in a boxed set that featured all the stories. I have to say that it is written so cleverly. I just loved it. As soon as I saw it was set in New Orleans, I had to have it. This is the first book in the set. I loved all the characters. They are very welled developed. Wow, there was a lot of story packed in here. My favorite character was Hamni. She cracks me up. I also liked how they used part of history in the LaLaurie house. I won't give anything else away, but there are surprises for the Hero in the book. Things aren't what they seem.

Set in New Orleans, Skinwalker is the first part of a multi-author collaboration, where the story flows from one author's book to another. Lila Felix did a great job of setting the scene and completing the first part of journey. The concept of a race that can transform into any creature is fascinating and my only criticism of the book is that I would like to here more of their story. Hopefully the author will write more books on this interesting people in the future.

A wonderful story about what becoming a man, a mate, and leader truly is. A young skinwalker who is set to take over as leader must save his race and in doing so change how things are done. Relying on an unlikely helper he learns about his past and tries to save his future. Time is running short as he has to search his soul to discover what is truly important and what he must do to ensure that the future doesn't just exist but thrive in wonder.

The first book in the Supernatural Chronicals! Achote is the seventh son of the seventh son of the seventh son which means he is the next alpha of the skinwalkers. Skinwalkers can change their look to whoever human or animal. One day he gets a scroll from The Noir that sends him on a task to save all supernatural beings and humans from evil only to find out his was just the first piece to the puzzle. It was a very good read and I loved every word of it! A little suspenseful!

The Skinwalkers did a wonderful job of setting the stage for the Supernatural Chronicles serial. The story is set in NOLA, and follows the future alpha of the Skinwalkers and his mate as they work to figure out the mysterious scroll that was left for them. All they really know is that they have to figure out the riddle before time runs out, or the Veil will fall and all paranormal beings will become powerless.

Shifters in a different light!

An interesting start to the series that brings promise. Frustrating at times with the backstory feeling like it needs more. I would love to see the changes and the ceremony of the skin walkers to end the tyrant alpha but sadly it was not to be. A series that looks like a large combination of many authors and styles that can go one of two ways, great or a muddled mess.

Short but sweet, The Skinwalkers is the first piece of the puzzle that is the Dynamis in New Orleans novella series.

It’s a great step into the shadows of the supernatural underbelly of New Orleans and sets a wonderfully dark world full of all manner of creatures that lurk in the night. Really the only thing this story needs is more of it!

A unique take on paranormal. I have to admit that, when I read the title, I thought it was going to be about zombies. Could not have been more wrong. This story is intense enough to keep the reader turning the pages. The characters are unique in their own way and are very well developed. I am all about something new and this did it for me. A read I would highly recommend.

Highly recommend, fantastic stories!
I was a little hesitant to read this series because I had only read Jaime Magee (The Witches) and im not a fan of short stories. Fast paced adventures & a fun ride! I'm impressed by how this series turned out & and am looking forward to its continuation. I am also going to scope out the authors other works :-)

Ehh! More like 2.5 stars. A necessary start to what I am still hoping is a great series of stories. I can hear the potential this one just fell flat for me. The editing was atrocious! Entire sentences out of place! The characters were FLAT. Not having a back story could have contributed to that I suppose . . . Blah!

I loved every page!
It's very intriguing to read a story that will be woven with others to create a bigger tale.
The writing is wonderful and I enjoyed every moment of this shorter tale! I hope to read more of the Aloha and his mate as well. To see how they uphold their end of the bargain!
Off to read the next!
