Ruth is such a beautiful book! It really shows the faithfulness and love of God. Ruth and Boaz's love is so pure and of course Ruth leaving with Naomi really showcases the love she has for her!
What a beautiful story, the little book of Ruth… so beautiful in so many ways! From desolation to joy… from ashes to beauty… and a lovely image of how God arranges the whole journey and makes it ten times better than we expected.
Ruth, willing to change countries & cultures & languages, to find a new family, to work hard and provide for her mother-in-law, to devote herself to and obey said mother-in-law, to do the right thing and pursue Boaz, to trust in a God she probably barely knew... all beautiful traits. She is a wonderful role model.
Boaz, a good, wise, loving man, who encouraged her when she needed it, protected her when she needed it, and took her in when she needed it. Another shining example.
And then there’s Naomi, convinced that God had been unfair to her, consumed with bitterness… and learning that “all things turn for good” in the end and God had blessed her abundantly.
“And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.”
Famines come, but don’t leave… God will visit you and give you all you need. <33
This little book is a powerful true exposition of the kinsman redeemer "law" in ancient Israel AND a beautiful picture of Christ, our Kinsman Redeemer written some 14 centuries before He was incarnated. J. Vernon McGee calls it, "the Romance of Redemption" and it shows how salvation has always been for Jews and Gentiles alike. Ruth is both an ancestor [great-grandmother] of King David and the Lord Jesus Christ in His humanity. Set in the dark days of the Judges it shows the grace of God still active in the lives of those DO trust Him, while available to all who WILL trust in Him. As Curtis Hutson has said, Don't say, "I can't come to Christ." Say, "I won't come to Christ," because you can, it's a matter of the will.
"And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:" -- Ruth 1:16
But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” (1:17)
I've read it a lot before, but this time I am reading through the whole Bible from cover to cover. - Boaz' parents were Salmon & Rahab - Boaz and Ruth had Obed - Obed had Jesse - Jesse had David
8th book of the Old Testament. Only four chapters long. It’s the story of Ruth, a Moabite, one of the most moving and well-known stories of the Bible. It’s a story of familial loyalty, kindness and love. It also shows us how Ruth enters into the lineage of Jesus. And is a practical application of Jewish inheritance laws.
Elimelech moves to Moab with his wife Naomi and his two sons. While there the two sons get married to two Moabite women: Ruth and Orpah. Then Elimelech and his two sons die. So Naomi decides to move back to her home in Bethlehem and tells her two daughters-in-law to return to their childhood homes, but Ruth has embraced Naomi’s beliefs and refuses to go.
Here we have one of the more beautiful verses in the Bible. ‘for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people and thy God, my God.’ Ruth 1: 16.
After they return, Naomi bids her to glean (or gather the leftover, fallen grain) from a relative’s (Boaz) field which was allowed in support of widows and the poor. When Boaz finds out about her he ‘negotiates’ with a closer relative as to which will take on the support of the two women and ultimately Boaz marries Ruth.
Fave scenes: Naomi too old to bear more sons, Boaz telling his reapers to let some grain fall on purpose and taking off the shoe.
I love the book of Ruth. It is a beautiful story of the loyalty and love of a daughter-in-law during what had to have been a very difficult time for Naomi. It reminded me of the Lineage of Grace series I read by Francine Rivers a long time ago. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...
“And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.” Ruth 1:16-17 KJV
“And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been shewed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother in law since the death of thine husband: and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore. The Lord recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.” Ruth 2:11-12 KJV
Very short book yet very compelling and unforgettable. Ruth was a loyal, humble and beautiful women who was very obedient. She was David's grand-mother. I would recommend this book to any woman, if we emulate her we will definitely find our Boaz and find favour with the Lord.
