I'll start this review by saying I do know how to knit, and am in fact a professional knitter (I teach knitting and have been published in various magazines and books). I've also taught arm knitting classes in the past, so I was curious how a very physical, tactile experience would be put down into words.
I couldn't recommend this book to any of my students, because the lack of photographs or diagrams make it impossible for anyone to learn from. It's also only available as an e-book, which means even if there were photographs, they'd be on a smaller size, and the details would be lacking making it impossible to learn from as well.
The author did introduce various stitches, which I thought was a positive (and why I'm giving the book 2 stars instead of 1), but without a lot of patience, one is going to be unable to figure out the stitches on their own. And if you already know how to make the stitches, then the book is pointless as one doesn't really need patterns to make the basic scarves and blankets common to arm knitting.
Arm knitting serves a purpose and has a place in the crafting world and is great for those who may not be able to use a traditional pair of knitting needles or don't have the patience to learn, but this book does not.
Great book! Ms. Moore easily and simply explains how to arm knit without the need of knowing how to really knit. The book has a variety of projects at the mostly beginner level. They are fun and quick to do. Ms. Moore has a breezy, engaging voice and a well-organized, easy-to-use book. Only thing that kept this from a five-star review was that the book could use more pictures for those of us who learn best by seeing it, rather than reading through it and figuring it out from there.
