About the author

Jane Medwell, PhD, was a primary teacher before becoming interested in primary literacy and languages.
She taught and did research at the Universities of Wales, Exeter, Plymouth and Warwick before jointing the University of Nottingham as Associate Professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
