What Now?

Rate this book
Rock star Nick Badley has no bucket list; he’s living it. He’s been there and done that, yet a part of him is still unfulfilled and he’s beginning to ask himself the What now? Nick has been through two marriages. While he admits that his womanizing started the break-up of his first marriage, he’s convinced that the media was responsible for the tragedy that ended it and that their reckless reporting helped to destroy the second one. So the last thing he wants to do is a documentary, which his PR agent hopes will improve his bad boy image. Journalist Shari Goodwin would rather be reporting about the effect of micro-financing on women in developing nations. Instead, she’s been assigned to follow around Nick Badley, like a groupie, to make a documentary about him. When they meet, both of them resent having to work with the other. Shari sees him as an overindulged rock star who has earned the nickname, Nick Bad. Nick sees her as a judgmental reporter whose surname suits her to the max. So, when attraction flares between them, Shari is determined to fight it. After all, Nick is in the habit of having any woman he wants and she refuses to be the next in line. Nick can’t remember the last time he’s been refused by a woman and is challenged by Shari’s rejection. However, when tragedy and trauma strike, a bond is created between them that goes beyond mere attraction. Will it be enough to make Nick change his ways and commit to a lasting relation? Can Shari trust him enough to take a chance on him and will she be willing to stand with him when his world falls apart?

I love story about rockers (because I love music) and journalists (because I used to be one). So I took this one up, expecting a lot. Ended up a little bit disappointed: could have been great but the story telling fell flat. Took me ages to finish it...

What now? Why even bother.

I don't know where to start. This was a pretty boring novel. The hero is suppose to be this bad boy rock star...NOT! At best he was just a promiscuous one. The heroine is a journalist who is all about doing serious journalism. She is in the beginning and to be honest through most of the book judgemental towards the hero. She judges him on his lifestyle but slowly comes to envy yet enjoy the in perks of following the band around the country. They were suppose to be attracted to one another but the chemistry between the two was non existent. Also, I was getting confused as to weather or not the heroine lived in North Carolina or South Carolina. The author did not make the distinction clear to ME. I stress the word me for those of you who disagree with me. And I get annoyed with the references to the heroine's color. At the beginning of the book she was basically just a light skinned black woman...then when we learned of her mixed heritage...all of a sudden she was exotic....suIch BS. And last but not least...the more I read the book the more British it became...we don't used terms like "queuing" we just say standing in line. We say vacation here not "holiday". And sorry but I don't refer to my mom as "mum". The author kept jumping back and forth with British an American terms until I wondered why not just have made all the characters in this book British? This book was lacking...I had no issue with the religious aspects of it...it just seem to be lacking chemistry between the two leads for me. Glad I'm done with it.

I just hate reading books like this one. Not because the story is bad, but because it is good. However...the writing is slightly amateurish and could have been better edited to tighten up the pacing (it took MANY MANY PAGES reiterating the emo/angst of the couple that I got, already!).

I love a good rocker story. Usually when I read one it is about a good girl who redeems the bad boy, and this is no different. What IS different can be summed up in one word: SEX. Usually there is lots of it - between the H/h and all those groupies on the road. While there are groupies in abundance, the acts behind closed doors are just that ... behind closed doors. And the wholesome girl our bad boy (in fact, his name is Nick Badley *grin*) falls for has sworn celibacy until marriage after a eye-opening experience 4 years prior. Now, the story is not too preachy but is put out there as an effective way to get ones life back together, so I truly enjoyed reading about the kind of guy I'd have wanted for myself (if I hadn't found such a good one already) and how he falls for the God-fearing young lady. Quite the good example!

Hmm... I will say I liked the premise of the book, I was actually excited to read about a rock star and a multiracial woman.... yes she was a mix of everything and that was perfect with me.

However... I felt the book was kind of flat, like waiting for something to happen, a peak so to speak but when it finally produced one at like 95% I was like... YAWN, it happened so freaking fast, I actually had to stop to see if there was going to be a part 2 because I was like how in the hell is this author going to stuff all of this in the remaining 5%... and that is exactly what was done. The outcome of the peak and resolution of the book was jammed in the last 5%. It felt rushed, it was like.. Marry me, no, PEAK PROBLEM, solution of said problem, engaged!,married, end. all in the last 5%.

I provided 3 stars because I actually liked the characters, they were set up really well. It just outrageous at the end.

“All things work together for good…”

This was a Christian clean romance story. Shari was selected to do a documentary on the famous bad boy of rock Nick Badley. At first Nick didn't like the idea of Shari being there. Then he developed a trust for her and Shari got to see a side of Nick that most people didn't. Nick takes a journey to refocus his faith in God so he can be the man Shari needs him to be.

I felt that this was a well written clean, Christian romance even though I make no claims to be very religious. The one thing that bothered me was the way Shari's race was focused on when it was brought up in the story. Throughout the story it was great how the characters blended without it being a focal point, but when it was brought up within the story it kind of interrupted the tone of the story, if that makes any sense to anyone.
