Kylie Bartlett's marriage is crumbling. There are fights and misunderstandings and words that no one can ever take back. Marriage can be hard, but she never expected this.
And then, he's there. That boy. The one she loved first, a lifetime ago, the one who left—the one who she thought would be her one great heartbreak.
He's back. And he's not going anywhere.
Kylie never thought she'd have to make this choice again. And now, with her marriage in shambles at her feet, she wonders if this is the way it was always meant to be. Or should she leave the past where it belongs?
Remember Us is a story of love and marriage, of finding yourself, and of how things don't always turn out the way you plan when you're seventeen.
L.V. Smith can move a story along. You'll want to read this book for the same reason you watch Scandal - there's a new complication with every page turn.
I really liked the book.
For most of the book, I actively despised the main character. I calmed down by the end when she finally realized about herself what I had been yelling at her all the way through (I like to feel that she heard me). But she and I had a rough time of it for a while. I've been the Derek in a relationship (although I do hope I communicate better and I'm definitely less forgiving), so it was a lot easier for me to see his side than hers.
That's part of the book's beauty. It's likely that every reader who has been in a committed relationship will identify with one of the characters here. This book was an emotional landmine for me. If you've ever experienced the things these characters go through, it probably will be emotional for you, too, because she writes it real and raw. Smith shows the ugly parts, and she shows them well.
Saw a teaser, bought the book, and tore through it in one day. And it was a work day ;)
I have the great privilege of knowing the author via an online community. So, you never really can tell how these things will go, reading books by people who you know.
IT WENT SO WELL!!!!
So many wonderful, unique things about this story. The shifting perspective of an adolescent love and adult, real life struggles. The competing protagonists which are both horrible and wonderful, the realness of bitchy friends and nosey relatives and Costco samples...and most of all, the lovely Canadian references.
I loved this book! If you've ever experienced marital problems, you'll be able to relate to this book. It was raw and heartbreaking and everything I look for in a book. I am anxiously waiting for her next work!
