Alfraed is now the Earl of Cleveland but his new position throws him into a world of intrigue. There are plots and coups as the enemies of England try to wrest the land from King Henry. The Earl has to fight the Scots, the Welsh and Vikings before he travels to Normandy to fight alongside the king. Filled with battles and knightly combat the fast moving novel reflects the chaotic times before the first English Civil War.
I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.
When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.
My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.
This is the 5th book in the series and continues with the story of the main character Aelfraed who has now risen to the rank of earl. These books which are works of historical fiction, take place mainly in England in the middle ages. The stories are filled with intrigue, betrayals, and battles. They make for exciting reading. The author interweaves real historical characters with his fictional ones to provide authentic history and a vision of what life was like in that period. I have enjoyed all of the novels in this series so far and intend to continue reading the next book in the series.
5th volume in the series of (I think) 10 in total. The Baron is upgraded to Earl and continues his blood and gore soaked journey to uncover his destiny.
Big fan of this prolific author and if you like to listen to audiobooks, the narrator Marston York, who does most of Hosker’s books, is a good interpreter of his work.
Thus Aelfraed is beginning to grow on me as much as Uhtred of Bebbanburgh or anyone written about in similar novels. Very accurate battles and events merge to create books you can't put down. Bring them on
I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I have read by Griff Hosker, and this one is no exception. A very well written story full of receipt and intrigue! I look forward to the next book.
Looks as if Griff (what a great name) Ho skier has written 50_ 60 novels. whew! Dryquoted.. development of the Earl's brutality. I felt that author did splendid job of developing the young son William along with The empress _Mattilda. both characters will be further developed in past or future novels. how does one obtain on Kindle Fire DX the American Civil War Series ? Truly dry
