Bear shifter Shane McAllister never thought he'd use an online dating site, but right now he's desperate. He has just months to find a mate before he and his brothers lose the family ranch. When one of his brothers makes some 'creative' changes to his profile, tricking a city girl into a dangerous situation, it's up to Shane to come to the rescue. When he does, he's shocked to come face to face with a curvy sweetheart who just happens to be his fated mate.
Ruby doesn't know what she's doing, flying out to to a remote town in Montana meet a man she's only seen on a dating profile. But something about Shane's gorgeous green eyes makes makes her want to take chances. Until her journey leads her to a remote bar, surrounded by rough men. Things seem bleak, until Shane himself comes striding into the bar, throws her over his shoulder, and carries her out. Perhaps mountain men do things different after all...
Against all odds, the two of them click instantly, and Shane is every bit as good of a lover as he is a sexy rancher. But Shane has more than one secret that he needs to tell his newfound love before they can be together, and there are more than just bears roaming in the mountains above Bear Haven...
Terry is the author of over forty bestselling shifter romances. She spends her spare time dreaming of dragons, playing with her pets, and watching sunsets from her home in the mountains alongside her husband (who she suspects would make a great bear shifter). She loves the wild outdoors, her fans, all readers, and getting lost in a great book.

Seriously??? I don't even know where to begin to tell you what is wrong with this book! There are two problems that are the most obvious. First...There is absolutely no world building. You just meet the characters, see the cabin, find out about a best friends that is no longer a best friend (but you don't know why), etc etc etc. It's have if the author (and I'm sorry about this) just wrote a first draft and submitted it. Where is the story behind the story?
Second...and this one contains a spoiler...
He walks into a bar, slings her over his shoulder, throws her in the car and takes her to his ranch. And she doesn't even protest. They've never met!!!!!! And then the hero says "Do you believe in love at first sight?" and within 10 minutes they are in the bedroom screwing each others brains out. Seriously??? Come on!!!!
If someone wants to explain what I am missing, I would be more than happy to listen. I just don't understand the rush to get this story to print when so so much more could have been added.
I was trying to wade through the nonsense up until the heroine gets the big reveal of two huge secrets and never bats an eye. The relationship moves ridiculously fast and Ruby never questions why this guy wants to marry her after a day. She knows nothing about him--probably didn't even Google him--but she's ready to take the plunge. For goodness sake, they're supposed to be visiting there for a week, and so far all the couple has done is have sex. I just finally stopped reading. The setup for the other two brother's mates seem to be right there as well, so I guess the sequels will use the rest of the week to pair them up. This is my first book by this author and I'm not sure that I'm going to follow up if this is indicative of her writing.
I’m not really sure how I feel about Mountain Bear – and I’m being honest here. It really is a bit too over the top, even for my love of all things Shifter.
Shane, Jesse and Maverick are brothers who run the family ranch. Trouble comes calling when they belatedly realize that according to their father’s will the ranch, Bear Haven, only stays under their control if the brothers take mates. There is a dead line, and time is running out fast. It’s decided that Shane will take the first spin at finding a mate – only his brother Maverick didn’t think too much of his online profile so he “jazzed it up a bit” in order to attract the right kind of woman… without telling Shane. Maverick is the kind of bear shifter who believes that kidnapping equates romance *sigh* (hope his story is one that kicks him right in the man bits – hard).
Ruby has recently dumped her loser boyfriend, the one who by constantly needing a ride kept her late for work, enough that she’s been demoted. So while out with her friends, a tipsy Ruby looks over an online dating service and comes across Shane’s profile. She calls him and drunkenly asks if he’s a serial killer – it’s something a girl should know before she heads to the wilds of Montana. Shane is amused by the call but doesn’t put too much faith in meeting this interesting lady. Little does he know what his brother’s gotten up to!
Ruby and her friends Bonnie and Harmony head out for this tiny town to let Ruby meet her “mountain man”. And that’s where things get interesting.
So, Mountain Bear. I didn’t hate it, I also didn’t love it – so that leaves me somewhere in between. Hell, I love an Alpha as much as the next reader – but the setting or I should say lack of setting and very little background or world building in the first story kinda slowed my interest. I’m used to insta-love, insta-lust in Shifter Romances… but I dunno.
Shane is possessive, obsessive even – yet Ruby gives back as good as he deals out. Some of the characters act a bit crass, and I think it’s that cringe worthy reaction that is making this not an easy read for me, personally. I’m hoping that since we now have a back story in Shane and Ruby’s romance that the rest of the series will be a bit smoother, more focused on the mates and not the actions that don’t scream Alpha to me – but something else.
As with any review, it’s my own opinion – your’s may be quite different. I’ve got the second story downloaded and read to read.. so let’s see where Bear Haven takes us.
Do you believe in love at first site? 5 GOLD BEARS
WOW! Just…WOW! Mountain Bear indeed! WHEW! What another GRRRREAT shifter romance from the ALWAYS fantabulous Terry Bolryder!! This is one FURTASTIC story that had me eagerly reading to the very end, sniffling sappy tears at the sweetness and romance of it, laughing at the funny parts, gasping at how arrogant Shane was sometimes, but all the while wishing that I could live a story like this, REALLY live it, not just vicariously through Ruby! That is how PAWMAZING, how FURRIFIC and how BEARY, BEARY much I loved this book!!! It’s not often you can find a book that you just want to get lost in, that you can't HELP but to be lost in it, through every single part of it and that you never ever want that feeling to end! From the situations, the man, the scenery, the bear, the lifestyle, the man, the instant connection to the man AND the bear even without knowing about the bear except on a level you haven't realized really existed but then you do find out it IS all true...that just makes it the more romantic & just so BEARTASTIC!! "I just have to decide if you’re too good to be true. Nah, just good enough to be true." *dreamy sigh* I don't know how Terry does it, but she does! And oh so BEARY PAWFECTLY too! I have read a LOT of her books. I have loved every. single. one. And yet she still manages to blow me away with each new book, each new series and each new set of shifters looking for love!! That is EXACTLY why I love both her & her books so much and why I eagerly await each new release and devour it as soon as I can!

What you'll find in this story; a cast of awesome impressive and engaging characters, spectacular story-line, picturesque and powerful scene descriptions, phenomenal banter, a kidnapping, family issues, secrets revealed, pent-up rage, emotions spiral, life-threatening moments, skyrocketing heart-pounding romance, and a melt your heart conclusion leaving you content and wanting more.
Maverick changes Shane's dating web site profile. Ruby sees the profile and is bewitched by Shane's photo. She takes a chance and goes to Montana with her two best friends to meet Shane.
FANTASTIC well written read by a truly gifted author. The characters are convincing and certainly praise-worthy. Ruby is fearless and Shane's devotion for her shines like a beacon. I loved this story from beginning to end; a most gratifying read. If you treasure shifter romance this is an excellent choice for your library. {I received a copy of this book for a completely honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I highly recommend this book as a great read.
Shane McAllister is the oldest of the McAllister brothers, he's a bear shifter and he desperately needs to find a bride to keep their land. Their late fathers will states that one of the brothers needs to find a mate within three months. Unfortunately he has no idea how to talk to a woman let alone convince one to marry him so he places an ad on an internet site. His brother decides he could do with some help and edits his profile to be more appealing. Ruby is a BBW who's life is changing she has broken up with her boyfriend and been demoted at work. Ruby has decided she may need an adventure in her life and is considering answering an online ad. she is drawn to Shane’s photo but is concerned by his unusually worded ad. After a night with the girls and a few drinks she decides to follow her instinct but will she have made a mistake?
I loved the plot a big alpha shifter looking for a BBW mate who could want more. Shane is a very likeable character and I warmed to him immediately. As soon as he sees Ruby he knows she is his mate and sets out to win her heart. Ruby is a strong character looking for love and as soon as she sees Shane so is drawn to him but she is worried about leaving the city behind. The plot develops well with a few twists along the way and the characters are well developed. although I liked all the characters I think my favorite is Maverick and I cannot wait for his story. If you love a shifter romance with true mates then this is the book for you a great read and I can't wait for the next instalment.
Shane and his two brothers have to find a mate, like now, or risk losing the land that they have always known and loved. Being the oldest Shane decides to try first taking the pressure off of his brothers for a little longer. Since there aren't many women, certainly not ones he wants, in the area near their mountain ranch is located, he post an ad on a dating site. With a little tweaking from his youngest brother, unbeknownst to Shane, it finds its way to Ruby and her friends one drunken night.
Ruby has just hit the last nail of bad changes she can take in her life and is looking for a change, when she comes across an ad that leaves her feeling both instantly drawn in and offset by its description. Taking that ultimate chance on fate finds them both happier than ever part and the course is slightly rocky but we'll worth it. I am anxiously awaiting Shane's brothers to get their turn and hopefully Wyatt too, as redeems himself later. Great read, you will not be disappointed.
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a wonderful little book. This book may be a fast read, but it is a dam good one. It is Well written. funny, thrilling, and oh so sexy. I loved when Ruby and her friends find his dating profile. And they see it after Shane's brother make his creative changes it is really comical. As the girls read through them it made me laugh so much. Then when they finally meet at the meeting place all hell breaks loose. Seems more then just the McAllister's are not the only shifters in town and man dose it get even more interesting from there. I could not put the book down. I thought I'd read a few chapters before bed, next thing I know the sun is coming up. I stayed up all night glued to the book. thank god I did not have to be anywhere so I could sleep. I am moving on to book two. But a word of Warning be prepared to read it straight through, and your going to love it. Well I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do, they value your opinions too.

Shane, Jesse, & Mav are 3 brothers absolutely in love with there family ranch. All are tied to it in different ways. When the oldest Shane discovers their dad's missing will and the stipulation all 3 brothers must find mates or loss their home, lifes are changed forever. A set up, an internet ad, and a cross country trip leads to a intresting an intense journey for the these three bearshifter brothers and the three New York City girls who make quite the splash. Dont miss the store of Shane and Ruby in what is sure to be a can't put down series!
This was a very fast, sweet read. With sassy curvy women and growly over-protective bears it was a lot of fun. I really like Shane. He's very level-headed and sweet. Overly protective of Ruby but he knew she was his mate and he protects what's his. Ruby and her friends were a lot of fun. They reminded me a lot of my friend and me when we get together. A little crazy with a lot of sass. Things moved really fast with her and Shane but sometimes you just know and there was a definite connection between the two. I look forward to reading the other brothers stories. Especially Mav's with all his caveman antics.
I love a Terry Bolryder story ! Here is a lighthearted romance with Montana brothers, mountain bears, in a small secluded town, and three NYC gals who visit this town to see if the dating site had really told the truth. Is Shane the gorgeous guy Ruby saw online, and will they click? Good characters and an interesting tale, with hot sex make this a good read. The brothers need to marry in order to keep the land/ranch that they love. Will Shane and Ruby mate? Not a cliffhanger, but look forward to the stories of Maverick and Jesse. Her girlfriends go home, but will they return? Find out !! ENJOY !!!
Like all the other books by various artists that have this EXACT SAME cover, there is really no difference in what lies within the pages: bear meets curvy mate, they have sex, someone briefly becomes drama queen, the end.
The characters are wusses and nothing behind their facade of "alpha." Oh, he is so macho and tough and possessive! No, he is sexist, possessive, and boring! But he's so hot! Okay.... There are times when it's okay to turn down hot guys. It's called controlling issues. You know, when subjects exhibit signs of abusive behavior, that person should be avoided, not worshipped...
I enjoyed this story. It told the story about it's two main characters, but the author also lets us take a peek at the other characters as well. I've enjoyed all the books I've read by this author. I like the length of it, and she doesn't draw out the story because when that happens the reader gets bored. I'm ready for Jesse's story, so you can release it now! LOL. I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes romance books. Even if you don't usually read paranormal romance this book can convert you!
This book was given to me for an honest review by the author. My first read of Terry's and I enjoyed every minute of this book. Shane and Ruby meet up with the unknown help of Shane's younger brother Maverick. Very unconventional but hey, it worked. Ruby and her friends, Harmony & Bonnie fly to Montana because the girls couldn't let Ruby go alone. They arrive in a town where females are scarce and then the excitement begins. Terry did a good job keeping my interest through out the whole story and I can't wait to read book 2!
Adorably Sweet shifter romance with mates who feel the same connection between them. Though there's a few obstacles to get through, his father's will and being a bear plus brothers finding their own mates. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to Jesse's story. And can't wait to see who gets paired up with Maverick. So check out this sexually charged series as it continues with the brothers, even though they are quick reads there totally enjoyable.
This books starts off a little slow as we meet Shane, Jesse, and Maverick McAllister. Then we meet Ruby, Bonnie, and Harmony as Ruby is reading Shane's personal ad and his hilarious description. The action begins when the girls arrive to Montana, and it doesn't stop until two of them leave. There is some very passionate scenes, and mating. Bears tend to be compassionate protective, and very possessive and Shane is all three of not more. He never realized what it meant to find your fated mate until he did. Then he has to fight for her..
If you want a serious quick insta-lurve and a neanderthal type mountain man (not to the extream, but there were some caveman moments), this is the series for you. Cause this is straight up crazy.
Check out these un-bear-able use of the word BEAR.
'Take me.' She gasped, so ready and wanting that she couldn't bear it much longer.
A hilarious and adventurous romance full of love, laughter, and suspense! Shane needs a wife ASAP to keep his family's ranch. His slightly crazy brother changes his online dating profile and ends up drawing Ruby in because it is funny and slightly ridiculous. When Shane and Ruby meet in person it is love at first sight but secrets and rivals could tear them apart. Can Ruby accept Shane and all his secrets? This story shows that love can conquer all as long as you accept it.
If you are looking for a light, funny read this is the book for you. I am a Terry Bolryder and have read a lot of her books. I really enjoyed reading Mountain Bear. I love the rugged, country feel of this story but, I wanted a little more passion between the two main characters. I can not wait to read Maverick's story. I like his wild and untamed ways. I will definitely read all the books in this series. can't wait for the next one.
First book about three brothers in the mountains of Montana - bear shifters.
This story revolves around the eldest brother, Shane. The boys will lose their ranch if they don't find their mates in time to offset their fathers' will. Brother Maverick has 'helped' by adjusting the profile online for his big brother...which has attracted the attention of a very fine gal from New York. Only, she doesn't know he's a shifter...or that his land is at stake. Or that SHE is his true MATE....
This book was so blah bland & silly...the hero & his brothers were just kinda weird....the heroine & her friends were nuts. The whole story was just sadly lacking anything to grab the reader..the evening newscast is more interesting ....the first sex scene was a disaster! This book should just be skipped..
Light and easy paranormal. Little to no drama, quick mating, funny secondary characters, nice little story. Sometimes I like this lane, most times however I need something with a lot more meat to it.
Hero: Shane. Bear shifter, rancher, gentle (ish) giant. Alphahole tendencies mostly in check. He has reasonable thoughts half the time but rarely acts in accordance with them. 5/10
Heroine: Ruby. Thankfully the writing isn’t weird about her being plus-sized. She’s…sweet? She has no goals outside of men, but who needs that, amirite? (Looks directly at camera) Anyway, she ignores all red flags so…4/10
Smut: A term used in this book is “nookie,” if that is any indication. Jk jk. The smut was fine. Bed and honey and baths, oh my. Nothing groundbreaking or particularly memorable, but solid enough and well-described. 6/10
Emotional Arc: Ruby has no emotional drive outside of being with Shane. She just drops her career and life plans after banging him once. And I’m sorry but no sex is that good. Also she has read romance novels but does not know what “mate” means. Also they’ve known each other for 2 days and they want to get married? And no groveling for the lies? For shame. 3/10 External Plot/World: Why exactly did Daddy declare that they have get married to keep their land? Emotional abuse, I guess. Honestly, there was not enough bear in this shifter book. Nor ranching. Also, I think the other two books have overlapping events with this one, so certain scenes felt kinda empty. 4/10
Side Characters: Jesse is a bland pretty boy. Maverick is an alpha hole. Wyatt is an antagonist. They all…exist. Most of them seem like they don’t particularly care about a woman’s consent, so…3/10.
Overall: I picked this up to broaden my reading. I think a lot of these tropes just don’t work for me. So please ignore my cynicism about the rancher bear shifter who needs to get hitched.
Characters = 3/5 Plot = 3/5 Romance = 4/5 Mystery = 4/5 Action = 2/5 Darkness = 0/5 Humor = 0/5 Stars = 3 ☆ ☆ ☆ Would I read future books by this author = Yes
Not bad but could be better. Inataloves with an overprotective alpha are awesome. It's steamy and sexy too!
Only thing is the heroine never bats a lash with the secrets that the hero has. 2 very big secrets and she's like okay... ?!? Also, Most of the drama happens to her friends and not her. It was almost like the secondary characters were trying to be the main characters.
Mountain bear is the first of the Bear Haven series and is a very good read. This book tells the story of Shane, a bear shifter, that due to his father's will is force to find a mate to keep the ranch. He resorts to a datting site and unbeknowns to him, his younger brother alters his profile to make him more appealing. I won't say more but I promise you won't regret given this book a chance. Highly recommend
I enjoyed reading Shane’s & Ruby’s story they both knew what they wanted and went for it. I’m tired of reading about the female character playing hard to get and ignoring her gut when she knows something is special and wants to go slow because that’s what’s expected. Girl go get yours , good for you . I don’t need their whole backstory in the first book. Can’t wait to read about Jesse and Maverick I know he’s going to be something else.
Mountain Bear (Bear Haven Book 1) by Terry Bolryder. Shane McAllister has found a clause in his fathers will that states one of the 3 brothers must mate within 3 months or their land must be put up for auction. So he puts his details on a dating app. Ruby answers and her and her 2 friends travel to Bear Haven. 3 females in an area with very few unattached females there is bound to be trouble.
