Henri Stierlin, nacido en Alejandría en 1928. Entre 1964 y 1972, una colección de 16 volúmenes titulada Architecture Universelle fue editada bajo su dirección por las Éditions de l’Office du Livre. Ha publicado también Tanis-Trésor des Pharaons, París 1987, Les Pharaons bâtisseurs, París 1992 y L’Or des Pharaons, París 1993.

Hay aquí una buena introducción a la historia de la arquitectura griega, pues el libro comprende las obras que van desde la edad micénica hasta los albores de la época helenística. Es cierto que la lectura requiere la consulta permanente del glosario para aclarar la terminología arquitectónica, pero superado este impase puede seguirse con mucho interés las numerosas descripciones y aclaraciones hechas por el autor.
