Having the knowledge that someone is going to die is easy; it’s the trying to save them part that’s so damn hard.
Not only is eighteen-year-old Aislin Gray a banshee, but she is going through one of the worst experiences she could ever dream of, having premonitions of her true love’s death. She had her heart broken when Kaelin, the human she loved, left so long ago. Now he’s back, and she’s torn between her love for him and her fear for his life as she tries to push him away with each new vision of his death.
Instead of watching from the sidelines as the nature of her being requires, she breaks all the rules when she decides to fight for Kaelin’s life. With each decision Aislin makes in her fight to save Kaelin, the visions alter. Growing more and more desperate to save him, she inadvertently reveals her non-human world to him. Now the lawmakers of the paranormal world, the Court, are out for their blood. The existence of their world has been revealed to a human, and they will stop at nothing to ensure their world remains hidden, including murder. Aislin no longer cares for the Court’s rules. The only thing on her mind is keeping Kaelin alive, no matter what, if that means a supernatural war, then bring it on.

young adult story

It was not my cup of tea and I think beginning could be better developed…

But it can be yours if:
- you are teenager
AND you like:
- paranormal fantasy in modern world (banshees, succumbs, vampires, faes, ghosts)
- multiple POV
- light romance
- highschool age characters
- high stake decisions
- other dimensions

Also note FMC is not the smartest cookie in the jar but it drives the plot, and didn’t bother me.

In Death Callers, the first in a new young adult paranormal romance series by Raven Hudgins, Aislin Gray can't wait for her eighteenth birthday to arrive. She is a banshee and part of a long line of wailing women. Once she turns eighteen she will be granted her first Death Call and receive a vision of someone's death.
Unfortunately, her excitement turns to dread when her first call is of the boy who only just recently came back into her life, her first love Kaelin O'Neil.
Aislin is determined not to let that happen and she will do anything to keep Kaelin alive and in her life, even if it means going against everything she has been taught.
Death Callers by Raven Hudgens, is a fast paced young adult read. In a genre overrun with vampires and werewolves I was excited find that Death Callers would explore the world of the banshee injecting a refreshing twist to the genre.
While the writing wasn't as strong as I would have liked with many moments that leaned more toward the telling side of things, Hudgens crafted Aislin plight in such a way that will have the readers rapidly flipping pages to discover what happens next.
Aislin herself is a capable character and her romance with Kaelin is sweet, which makes the reader all the more hopeful that she will be able to save his life.
All in all Death Callers by Raven Hudgens is a good read for anyone looking to add something unique to their paranormal collection.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and even though it's not the genre I usually read, it kept me engaged and turning the pages until the end. The characters were fun, interesting, and believable; I personally loved Aislin’s strong personality. Overall, it was a very entertaining read, and I’d recommend it to readers who enjoy paranormal fantasy set in the modern world.

Death Callers is YA fantasy at its most visceral. It’s not just about supernatural abilities,it’s about the price of love, the legacy of pain, and the courage to fight fate. Aislin isn’t a chosen one, she’s a girl trying to hold on to the boy she once loved, and the world might burn for it. I couldn’t put it down.

This book is a rare gem! Beautifully crafted, emotionally resonant, and impossible to put down. Every page flows effortlessly, the characters feel alive, and the story leaves an imprint that lasts well beyond the final chapter.

I think the book had a lot of great potential. I love that it revolves around the supernatural world rather than the human one. It had some grammatical errors, but overall it was an interesting read.

Supernatural Romance

Frustrating characters, they made the most upsetting choices but it was so realistic and emotionally driven that it just keeps you hooked.

My Review:

I just have to say that this book would have gained 5 stars from me if there wasn’t so many POV changes. In fact as a reader I hate when an author puts so many different characters POV. It always gives me a huge headache. But that is just me, I am sure other people do not mind. To each their own, right?

Moving on, you can tell this is a YA book, as soon as you start reading. I always think you can tell by the vocabulary, tone and pace of a book.

The author does however, have wonderful characters. Names are interesting and different (for me). Kaelin is very outgoing and sure of himself, I like how he is more of a jock/geek. That was a nice twist, the idea of young love is great. Aislin has that leader material, and seems very innocent.

Let’s not forget the main character is a Banshee, which is why I said yes to review this. I don’t come across a lot of banshee love stories, so it was refreshing. We usually see the female a human, and the male supernatural but the author went a different way with this.

Over all the book was pretty fun to read, despite having to put it down because I got mad at the POV changing again. (I’m sure it wouldn’t bother anyone else, I’m a weirdo) This is one of the first book to review that I haven’t found editing issues, Thank God! Now formatting is a different story I did see problems with that.

Btw, if you read this. Get your tissues ready, You are going to need them.

I enjoy reading a good YA book from time to time so I was looking forward to reading Death Callers because I’ve never read anything from this author before and I was excited to see what was in store. However, I think this book was a little too young for me. I enjoy paranormal reads and this book definitely have the characters I enjoy reading about, but when the main character cries for the majority of the book to where it becomes annoying, I found it hard to continue the story. However, I did finish it and I can honestly say that even though everything led up to a war between the different species, I will not be reading the next book. All of the characters were young but my favorites were definitely Teagan and Kaelin; they were smart and caring. Kaydynce was too self-absorbed for me and Aislin who is one of the main characters was too weak. I don’t mind characters having down and depressing moments but I enjoy reading stories about characters who are stronger; especially the main characters. Overall, I have to say the storyline wasn't a bad one, it was just that I felt like the story was too young for me.

The Death Callers kept me hooked from the very beginning where the protagonist introduces herself- “I, Aislin Briella Gray, am a banshee, and I see death.”
At first I thought that was a supernatural ability that could help keep people safe, but that was not to be. The hero was likeable and knowing that he could probably die- most probably die- was heartbreaking.
Aislen was brave, loyal, and was set do what ever it took to ensure her love was safe from the curse. But will she succeed? That is for you to find out.
Other than Aislen and Kaelin, there are other supernatural beings who are interesting and unique in their own ways. This was overall a great read and the epilogue assures a promising sequel.

(3.5 stars) This is a YA paranormal romance following a Banshee that gets a Death Call or a vision of her 1st true love's untimely demise. So, most of the plot follows the MC trying to save her love interest, her childhood best friend, from dying, but the twist is he is a human, and she can't tell him she has foreseen his demise. This follows some familiar romance tropes with some miscommunication. Still, it is usually resolved quickly, and an MC who is sometimes too nice for her own good, but for the most part, it is relatively balanced. Some of the choices made at the end of the story are interesting and will either make you cheer or think oh, really now, but it is simply a matter of taste. So, if this sounds like your kind of thing, I suggest you check it out.
