Scott Schuman is back to complete his trilogy of street-style bibles. With a vibrant collection of beautiful images of the men and women who have caught his attention around the world, Schuman remains a thrilling source of urban and high-end style. From its origins on the streets of New York, his much-loved blog, thesartorialist.com is a vivid and growing hub of inspiration for fashion lovers everywhere. This collection displays the very best from the last three years of the blog. The X is full of beauty, mystery and humanity.
Scott Schuman is the creator of the popular fashion blog "The Sartorialist". After leaving his position as director of men's fashion at his showroom to take care of his daughter in September 2005, he began carrying a digital camera around and photographing people he saw on the street whose style he found striking. He then posted these to his blog, sometimes with short comments, always either favorable or open-minded. He is well known for photographing what have been described as 'real people.'
"The Sartorialist" quickly became a regular read for fashionistas, both on the street and in the upper echelons of the industry.
Ay, I've fallen out of love. I was so looking forward to this book, remembering the thrill of reading the last one. Now I see what the author loves and I am a little sick. Most of the women wear stilt shoes they cannot walk in. Yes, it makes them look tall and giraffe-y. The rest wear sandal-y pieces paper frivolously tied to their feet. That is, hardly anyone is wearing shoes you actually live in, walk in, thrive in. EXCEPT the women in Peru, and the men everywhere. Why do men get to wear shoes that can sustain their wellbeings?
I do love the colors of the clothes of Peru, and the layers of sweaters and skirts.
It's weird how many people here hold cigarettes.
It's weird how many dumb little purses women here clutch. Why don't they want their hands free?
It's weird how many of us stare down at our phones.
Pretty much the same as with the other two Sartorialist collection, though there's a wider variety of countries the pictures are from. And not all pictures are of thin, fashionable people - some are quite normal weight. Some styles even really surprise in their inventiveness :)
There are certain people he names separately, for their style, men and women. Some short writings, including: inspiration outside the expected. beauty can happen even with a prosthetic (metal) leg. on using the iPhone. of value of runaway shows. stylishness of the poor. the colors in clothing in Peru. greatness of a good haircut (including the cover photo). Bhutan arrow shooters. street photography in India. a trend of white, long gloves (to avoid tan).
If you liked the other ones, this is another good one, and the other way around. Very much worth it.
2.5 stars. Lots of very cool photos. Overwhelmingly white and thin people. The author misgendered one of his subjects repeatedly and its all I can retain.
The latest book by The Sartorialist (Scott Schuman) and once again it is full of glorious photos of people, and their personal style, from all over the world. Recommended to all lovers of street fashion.
What a great picture book - lots of beautiful people who love colour and fashion captured by this photographer who apparently runs a blog on this stuff. I loved that so many seemed so happy, plus it is all so creative. Must do more fun clothes.
Fantastic photography book! Great, diverse examples of fashion! Interesting, diverse people. Love the little stories sprinkled in. A book that can be looked at over and over again where you see something new every time! Great book for people watchers, fashion and photography fans!
