Chinookan peoples have lived on the Lower Columbia River for millennia. Today they are one of the most significant Native groups in the Pacific Northwest, although the Chinook Tribe is still unrecognized by the United States government. This is one of the most thorough histories of the indigenous people on the lower Columbia River. It starts thousands of years ago until modern day. The descriptions throughout the 1700s and the first decade of the 1800s were very detailed. The chapter about the futile treaty attempts of the 1800s dragged on a bit.

Full of information from various people with expertise on the native inhabitants on the lower Columbia from the geology of the area to the art work found at many sites. A must have for the researcher and for those interested in the cultural development of the Pacific northwest.
