Rivers don’t let rocks hold them back.

River Nightingale has decided to blow past the rocky men in her life. She’s played by the rules for too long—especially when it came to her career as a cop. She was the top closer of cases for years, but promotions in her small town cop shop went to her less productive male counterparts. River’s friends, three other women cops, are also ready to change careers. Together they leave behind their small towns, become their own bosses, and purchase a Seattle private detective agency.

Homicide Detective Gage Hamlin takes pride in his job; he closes cases and fosters justice. All that changed the day River Nightingale sauntered into his office. River has him questioning his pride, his cases, and his aversion to private detectives, especially beautiful private detectives.

River’s client thinks Gage got it wrong, and River is forced to prove Gage missed a murder. Will River and Gage find a way to play nice, or will River be forced to leave Gage behind?

3 Taking Charge Stars * * *
The glass ceiling exists in all types of businesses...and it can be frustrating to say the least. In this novella, four female detectives who met on an online site calls Lady Cops decide to finally take a long overdue vacation together in Seattle. River Nightingale had connections with her Uncle Mike and he arranged the housing for their stay.

Each of these women have been blocked unfairly over and over again in their career paths. With River being passed over for a man who has less time and nothing like River's 10 years of successfully closing the cases...it was time to think about moving on.

River Nightingale doesn't look like the hardcore cop she is... she is a bit short and has a baby face. Smart and quick, she has been able to handle any situation her career has thrown at her. The other women from the site all have bonded even more on this trip... it is as if all of them have been hanging out together for years.

While figuring out what sights to see on this vacation, River spies a notice of sale for a P I firm. It causes the wheels to start turning and before it is said, the women have come up with a business plan, funding and support from Real Estate mogul Uncle Mike.

Five months later, River and her 3 other partners open Miss Demeanor P I Service.

We are there when a brother and sister walk in. Their parents were killed in a car accident. The local police have closed the case saying it was an accident. The kids don't feel it was... it just doesn't feel right. They also were hit with a letter from their mother's safe... there is a half sister out there from an affair, long ago...They are a powerful family in the Seattle area, money is no object...they want answers about the deaths and to find their lost sister.

River takes the case and marches into the Police precinct where Homicide Detective Gage Hamlin resides. Their first exchanges are less then friendly; the detective is on the defensive and feels like he has been accused of mishandling the case. River is not letting his attempt to intimidate her work. To his surprise, Gage secretly is impressed. After a sharing of information, the results River received on a hunch, played out. The parents were murdered and the case was reopened.

This paves the way for River and Gage to work together and get to know each other better. The slow burn of him falling for her is there and once it is all said and done... these two make a strong pair.

This story had the mystery/thriller focus and a sweet little bit of romance. I thought is was fine, although, I had figured out immediately who the "bad guy" was and why.... Too many years of mystery reading, maybe...

The umbrella of Miss Demeanor has been used to create a group of books by this and three other authors. They tell stories of other clients and outcomes reflecting the use of the other women P I's.
The idea is a good one and it will be interesting to see how all the others play out.

Light novel. I never really tried a light romance detective story but after finishing it I gotta say "I needed to read something like this". It's short, refreshing and you'll absolutely love it.

MURDER FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY
This story kept me captivated as the mystery and suspense of who-done-it unfolds. A two-part case for P.I. River Nightingale of the Miss Demeanor PI Agency, hired by Blake Baxter to find first who killed his parents, Wade and Trudy Baxter, and second to locate a half-sister given up for adoption. After the death, shocking secrets surface hidden away from Trudy’s children, Blake and Garnet. This story will keep you in suspense as the plot twists and turns unfold. River and Homicide Detective Gage Hamlin decide to work together rather than just against each other. In the process of working close together, feelings for each other come into play. This is an action-packed murder mystery with a touch of romance. This story has a great cast of characters, entertaining and witty dialog, along with action, suspense, solving a crime and bringing family together at last. I look forward to more stories in this Miss Demeanor series.

River Nightingale has had it with being a police officer in her small town of Bear Creek when she is once again overlooked for a promotion. She and 3 of her friends in similar situations decide to open a business in Seattle called Miss Demeanor Private Detective Agency.

River's first job is to look into the deaths of the parents of Blake Baxter as he believes their deaths were not accidental.

Homicide Detective Gage Hamlin is not used to having his cases reopened but River may be onto something.

Will River and Gage be able to work together to solve the truth or will the lack of trust between the two prevent them from working together?

This was a great book that hopefully be a series! I loved the relationship between River and Gage and that even though it was a short story it didn't feel rushed or pushed along. I loved that all the girls supported each other even though there was limited interaction between them all, they were always there when needed.

I won this book in a contest, and have never read any of this author's books before. I really like her style. The story was short which is nice when I'm busy and want to read but don't want to get caught up in something I won't have time to finish.

River is tired of seeing all the male cops get promoted instead of her just because... well... they're guys! It's not fair but instead of whining about it, she talks her three friends into starting a PI business with her. Suspense and romance are quick to follow. I love her attitude, and I enjoyed the story. It's a good, short story full of suspense. Of course, it ends with a happily ever after which is my favorite kind of story. I look forward to reading the rest of the series, and exploring other books by this author.

What a refreshingly fun read!
This was a light-hearted read that provided for a relaxing afternoon
The author is new to me but I will definitely be looking into her work.

River and her girlfriends have had enough of the boys club!
Together they decide to take control of their futures while doing what they do best.

Welcome the birth of Misdemeanors P.I.

This is a first in series
We meet the cast of the series - not in-depth but enough to get an idea of their personalities and how they fit into the overall picture.

River is a blast. The saying about dynamite and small packages definitely applies to her.
Gage is a true gentleman and knows when to admit defeat and be the bigger person.

I enjoyed the simplicity of the story line.
A touch of action blended with just the right tang of 'who done it'
The romance is closed door but it definitely is there
I'm looking forward to the next in series

This is the start to a engaging series that in each one has its own brand of mystery. This one lets you know why these girls branch out on their own and they could not of made a better decision. Thanks in part to her uncle her and her friends are able to buy and take over a detective agency. River gets recommended by her uncle to a brother and sister who need her help with a cold case involving their parents. The elements are solid and prick the interest with intrigue right away, and on the back of that is contact with the one who initially handled the case. Gage will not be your average small town cop who thinks women can not be good at what they do but he is defensive none the less. Actually you get a pretty good feeling that Gage is one fine cop. As the time goes on in this they will even find a way to work together. Even though this is a basic who done it, it is stamped with her style and branded with romance that gives a warm touch to a murder mystery that needs solved. Along with this is another element that will need solving almost like a missing person's one that is key to the brother and sister. The characters are a delight and with everything that goes down with this one you will be caught up as you should be in a well written suspense. So at the end of this one I would say that River is very happy indeed with her decision.

This first novella in the Miss Demeanor series is incredible! I've found a new book boyfriend in Detective Gage Hamlin. Both of the characters are very good at what they do...solve murders and unravel crimes. This little book packs quite a punch...it has romance, mystery, intrigue, and did I mention romance? The chemistry and tension between Gage and River are spontaneous combustion waiting to happen. Very clean story lines and paragraph transitions and strong character development. This is proof that a book doesn't need to have sex on every page to hook a reader. The only downfall is that there wasn't enough. I can't wait for the other stories in this series. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this novella.

I loved the first of the Miss Demeanor Private Detective series - P.I. I Love You. Miss Jaytanie's characters are well thought out and I really cheered for River Nightengale. I always love a strong woman character and River handles her investigation with determination and class. She shows her smarts and although she and Gage start off on the wrong foot, when they begin to work together it flows very well and makes sense. I didn't have a clue who the murderer was and love that more than anything. It drives me crazy to get half way through a story and already have it figured out. Kudo's to Miss Jaytanie for a wonderful story and I hope there will be more from River Nightengale and the detective Agency.

I don't read books in this genre on a regular basis.
I enjoyed the "girl-power" aspect. They weren't getting promoted as cops/ detectives so they start their own private firm.
There are some good twists. I love the puns and humor.

This was a really fun read for me . I love books with strong female characters and this book has actually 4 of them . Let me introduce you to the ladies of Misdeamor P.I detective agency. River Nightingale is one tough cookie, she became a cop in a small town Montanna . She has solved more cases then the males but isn't going anywhere . Until the trip to Seattle with her best friends who are also cops and are in the same boat . They are working hard and when a case brings River to Gage Hamlin's door more then cases are being closed sparks are flying . But really not in the good way sometimes . Will they crack the case and more important will they come together and play nice .
The characters in this book are absolutely adorable . They are well written and they both have a spunk that will keep you reading . River is a take no prisoners type of woman . She is tired of the men being promoted well just cause they are well men . She is fun but also very work oriented but is also hurt and tired of men taking and not giving . She is a go getter and will take no prisoners . Gage well he is a man , a sexy man who is also a cop . River and Gage bicker and fight like a married couple . They seem to be like oil and water . He just doesn't know what to think of her . Until she gets hurt and things change . They are great together and are such a sweet couple . I loved them and I loved the ribbing the other girls gave them .
This was a great read , I read it out on the patio in an afternoon. The story is a fun read with some great characters . The author will keep you on your toes and throws some twists at you . The only thing that I had a little bit of trouble with in this book I kind of had who the killer was pretty fast . Other then that I really enjoyed the journey to see if I was right . I wish there was more interaction and sparring between Gage and River . Because I loved what they did have . Over all I really enjoyed this book and this author's writing style . I am so going to get the rest of the series . I want to see what happens with the rest of the girls . So if you want a great novella for the pool this summer check them out .

I loved the mystery and suspense it is a wonderful start to this series. A short, sweet and to the point. If anything I would love for it to be longer. The humor gives the story a wonderful touch that really pulled me in. I just love strong women who take the world by storm as these four do. Being a woman in a male world it was easy to relate to these women. Men get by with so much that we women cannot. The plot builds nicely the mystery is easy to work out but the twists are engaging making it a page turner.

Blake wants to know who killed his parents and who his sister has been adopted to. He hires the Miss Demeanor PI Agency to find these answers. The plot thickens as shocking secrets come to light spun around mystery and death. I felt so sorry for Gage and he comes to feel about the job he did. As he and River start working together and their romance builds I was so hooked I couldn’t put the book down. I loved the bickering and passion they made it kept the story very interesting.

I fell in love with this authors writing style in The Winters sisters as I did again with the start of this series. I love audio and I see she has a few new ones, I plan to buy them along with this one. There is something about audios that really bring the story to life, I find when reading I miss a few things where the audio makes it clear. Bottom line I loved the characters, the plot, mystery, suspense, the touch of romance, the humor and bickering add so much that at times I laughed and chuckled. I can’t wait to read more of this series and see how things turn out for the other 3 women. If you are looking for a thrilling, exciting, suspenseful read this is the story for you.

P.I. I love you is a new and interesting take on women taking control of their futures and destiny.
River and her friends have worked hard for their respective police departments, but yet after years of service and dedication they are constantly passed over for promotions due to being the wrong gender. Not sexist at all right? Instead of making waves, the women end up purchasing a private detective company in Seattle.

One of River's first cases, unfortunately, has her steeping on the detective's toes who already closed the case. But River is nothing, if not persistent and she's determined to solve this case and put the family at ease.

This was a good book. I enjoyed the concept, but I would've liked if the book was more fleshed out. In regards to "mystery" I'm not sure I would say this is a mystery because the author literally only gives us one suspect. I guess I would've like to have had more people with reasons to murder the parents to keep my mind a bit more engaged and thinking "who done it?" I'm not sure if there are plans for more books with this, but I would've really have liked to seen more about the other women and got to know them as well.

River Nightingale may not have it going on in the Hot Dates department, but at lease she had her chat room (Lady Cops.) Rather than live out their days in front of a computer, the gals take a vacation together to Seattle. Five months later, their new private investigation company, Miss Demeanor, was open!

“I thrive on hard work. I worked hard for ten years and closed more cases than all my colleagues combined. What I do have a problem with is being passed over for promotions while some yahoo, with half the closed cases and experience, gets the job. And why? Merely because he has a d#ck and I don’t.” (25)

The first case involved proving an accident was actually and finding a long-lost half-sister.

I liked these women. They were smart, spunky, and strong-willed. Although I felt the bulk of the story focused mostly on River and Gage (the homicide detective) working together and getting too chummy very quickly, I thought this was a well-rounded mystery with good investigative skills. The revelations can get a little puzzling and complex, but this was, overall, a quick and easy read.

P.I. I Love You by Joanne Jaytanie is the first book in a new series. It was extremely fast paced and entertaining. The story is about 4 woman police officers who after years of being on the force for their local agencies and passed over for promotion start the Miss Demeanor Detective Agency. This is their first case and River Nightingale is lead investigator and the police detective is Gage Hamlin who is very antagonistic to River. I love a strong woman lead in a story and River is certainly that and can give back as good as she gets. This book contains, murder, attempted murder, and all the suspense you could want as River and Gage find out who murdered River's clients parents and find their adopted sister. River almost gets killed while solving this case but it brings River and Gage close together. I can't wait to read more about these 4 women and their agency. The characters are believable and likeable. I really loved this book.

Overall rating: 4.4 (advance copy)

Short, sweet, and remarkably entertaining! This book did a wonderful job at setting up the scenario for this series, as well as with peaking interest for more in this series. Book one focuses on the founder of the agency, but there are 3 more members that have a story to tell as well. The relationship between the PI and the detective added the romantic spice to the tale without having to enter the mature content world. A great pick me up on a rainy day! I loved this story! It was amazing! A little to short but boy did it grab my attention right from the start and kept me in it's clutches to the very end. I was so invested in this book. The characters in P.I. I Love You were so realistic I felt like I was part of the women as they went through changing careers and starting their own private investigator business. Then a mystery was thrown in and I was spent I was in heaven. I will be keeping my eyes out for more Miss Demeanor books. Thank you Joanne Jaytanie for giving me another series to fall in love with!

I liked this novella and would like to read the other books in this series. P.I. I Love You is an easy read and fast paced. It had just the right amount of suspense, humor and a little bit of romance. I liked how well River and Gage worked together after getting off on the wrong foot. After things get a little crazy for River, Gage comes to her rescue and is her knight in shining armour. Between River and Gage the solve the murder and bring the family together with their half sister. This book is a must read.

This was a cute fast read. I'm not one for detective or mysteries all that much but this was very easy to read. Engaging characters and likable ones at that. Although Gage came off as a bit of a dick...no pun intended he grew on me. Its a clean romance with a few kisses. I think if anything I would have liked more of a relationship with Gage and River but I still liked the book. I dont know if she plans to write more but I hope so perhaps the other ladies will get a story.

I love a book that showcases strong independent women. River alis a women working in a man's field in a small town. She loves her job but isn't getting the respect she deserves. On a whim her and her friends Branch out on thier own. River is involved in her first big case and she finds herself working with a frustrating and attractive man. While the mistory unravels and danger comes at them things start changing between them. I loved this fast paced story with strong independent women.

Charming

A charming little detective story. I adore the name of this detective agency - Miss Demeanor, Private Investigation. Of course I also adore a good pun. How this particular group of people came together was inspired. Of course it also helps that the story takes place in Seattle. The story is short enough to be a good bedtime read and still get a good night's sleep. All around, a good book. I look forward to more.

This was an enjoyable story. I liked the women and Gage. The plot was interesting and kept me engaged. While the culprit was obvious to me, it didn't detract from the story. I didn't give it 5 stars for two reasons. One, I felt the characters could have had more development. Secondly, the incident that happened after River met with Mrs Darnell was never reported to the local police and should have been. I am planning on reading the second book in the series.

I love the strength of the women portrayed in this story. River is a former cop turned P.I. and finds herself faced with what appears to be a bigoted police detective that she must work with, when she is hired by an influential family. This book is full of danger and suspense, and a happy family secret revealed.

I loved this story and really hope to see more about River NIghtingale and her PI agency! The author packs a lot of action in this short story and builds the romance believably. The main characters have deep professional integrity and knowledge that pulls them together despite being on opposing sides of a case, making the story satisfying emotionally and intellectually. More please!
