I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Personal Overview

I must start this review by saying that I was pretty unmotivated going in this set, and after reading it it's gotten even worse, and I think the main reason is the disregard that this shifters have for the mating pull, and the fact that they pretend that it's not there while ignoring their mate and having sex with others. That really makes me nauseous, and more and more fed up with this series.

Talon(3.5 Stars)

Poor Isi, she was dealt a bad hand at birth, since she was the Shaman's firs born, according to his prophesies she was going the doom of the Pantera and the Wildlands. Since she was abandoned at young age, she became a very strong and independant woman.
Not the nicest neighbors a girl could have, but sadly they weren’t the worst.
She’d run away from the orphanage when she was barely fourteen to live on the streets of Chicago.
Tough to top that.

Talon, being one of the Pantera's Hunters, had one mission, protect the person who was supposed to ruin them all. So lets just say he was not happy with it, because he already had made up his mind that she was evil, and didn't deserve protection. That is until he sees the subject of his mission...
Of course he had his little moment of temporary insanity and was a jerk to her, but realizing that she is just a innocent, and has nothing to do with their enemy, he completely let's himself go by their attraction and finds out their are mates.
He’d never had his animal so close to the surface during sex. It was intensely erotic to have his pleasure echoed within the cat.

Instead, nothing had ever felt more right.
This female was precisely what he needed. Strong. Independent. But with a heart that was aching for the opportunity to love.
They’d both lost their families and deep inside they were both searching for a place to call home.
Something they could build together.

But never before had sex called to both the man and cat inside him.

His cat had known she belonged to him the second it’d caught her scent. It just took the male side of him a bit longer to figure it out.
Now both were in agreement.
Isi was his mate.

When the threath to her life comes, Talon steps up in her defense, showing is complete devotion to her, and willing to died, just so that she has a chance to escape. Doing so he is doing something something that no one has ever done in her life, he stood up for her and risked his life to protect her. That was all it took for the rest of her walls come crashing down, and from that moment she gave herself completely to him, like he had already done to her.
It was as if her heart and soul had already realized that she’d found the man destined to break through her barriers to claim the lonely woman beneath.
Just the sort of corny, fairy-tale ending that used to make her gag.
As far as she was concerned, Disney was selling a load of crap to young girls.
And then Talon had crashed into her life.

Xavier(2.5 Stars)

Xavier story just made me angry again, because like I mentioned in the beginning of the review, he did that BS of denying his connection to Amalie.
Amalie, Mal, was a young (by shifter standards) Pantera Hunter, she was the last Pantera baby to be born, fifty years before, which causes the males in her life to treat her life a child, especially her overprotective brother, and his best friend Xavier. For ten years now, since she became attracted to males the first time, all she can see is him, she always felt the pull in his direction. But she is tired of being treated like the baby sister, she wanted something more, and since she couldn't get it from Xavier, in a rare moment of freedom, she went in search a bit of fun.
Sure, she was a kickass Hunter who was capable of bringing down several full-grown males with one hand tied behind her back—part of her training—but in the Wildlands no one ever talked to her like this. Looked at her like this. Like she was desirable and available. It felt so good.

He laughed with her, his dark eyes glittering with interest. They were a handsome set of eyes, deep and soulful, and she could probably get lost in them if it wasn’t for the breath-stealing, knee-weakening crystal blue orbs of a certain Pantera male in the room. Eyes she’d been lusting after forever.

But the object of his crush was also at the bar, which only made her decision seem more right.
And every time Mal saw him, she had an irrepressible urge to rush at him, leap into his massive arms and attack his perfect mouth.
It’d been like that for the past seven years.
Oh, who was she kidding? More like ten.

Of course Xavier as other ideas, because he may not want to have her, but he sure wasn't going to allow another man to touch her. How damn selfish is that??? No wonder that she is a virgin, and almost sure he was not celibate during this ten years, where he was fully aware of their attraction, and her puppy love to him. What a Fucking Hypocrite!!!
And all the excuses he had not to touch her and respond to the pull, Lord Almighty, they were a mile long:
Amalie was not just the last Pantera born, which made her untouchable in and of itself, but she was also his best friend’s little sister. And the code of honor between males killed even the most desperate of attractions.

Xavier’s gut clenched. She had no idea how he saw her, how his skin ached every time she touched him – how he stood taller, prouder, every time her eyes were on him. And hell, she never would, if he could manage it.

So infuriating!!!
Even worse for me is the fact that after refusal, upon humiliation, upon refusal, she never never gives up and the is always the agressor, trying to seduce him at every turn. Girl, talk about desperation...
She was a strong female, passionate, and a truly capable Hunter. Rarely did she lose the prey she sought. And damn, she sought Xavier something fierce. She wanted his touch to be her first.
Obligation or not, she’d already ‘captured’ him. Now she just had to make her gorgeous prey see what was right in front of him.

And after many tries, of course she finally gets what she always wanted:
“I love you, Amalie,” he said in a hoarse, desperate voice. “Fuck, Beautiful, I always have. I don’t care about anything or anyone. Not anymore—not ever.”

So both characters really tested the limits of my patience, Xavier was weak and a coward and Mal, for Christ's sake! I value fighting for what we want, but please, have some shame, you all but begged for his attention...And to top it up, she even braggs to her brother that she was the one to seduce him, indeed a true thing to be proud of! (Cue sarcasm)
“If I’d have know this, I would’ve seduced Xavier a long time ago.”

I finished this last night and as I sit down to write the review I still have no idea how to rate or review it. I am still interested in the overall story that threads through the books, but honestly some of the couples do not appeal to me. For example Talon was an enemies to lovers story - which I don't love. But do not hate. Xavier was a best friend's little sister/forbidden/friends to lovers story which I generally really dislike. But...

For me Xavier's story was better - I think in general I like Laura Wright's stories the best. Xavier was such a good guy and trying to do the right thing. But here is where this falls down for me. Amalie is the last cub born to the Pantera. And we know that was fifty (yes 50!) years ago. So she is a 50 year old virgin! Are you freaking kidding me?! How many decades has Xavier been denying his feelings for her? I am just having a hard time with the ages. Plus Amalie throws herself embarrassingly at him. Although if I was still a virgin at 50, I might do the same thing! How can they really be mates and be in denial for so long? It just weakens the whole "mate" thing for me.

Talon was such a jerk in the beginning and Isi was so unhappy. I just could not get into their story. It was not bad, but a little boring.

All that being said, I still plan to continue reading the books. I really want to know what happens with Ashe (from the first book).

As with the previous installments in this series, my only complaint is the length. I want longer stories. I would honestly read full-length novels with this series and be so happy.

I highly recommend this series on a whole- the authors have very cohesive writing styles. They work so well together. I don't think a lot of authors could pull off a series with another another writing part of it; but these two are doing fantastic at it. The world is seamless between the authors. I appreciate that.

Could you read this as a standalone? Possibly, if you don't like knowing who/what. I believe you need to know the backstory in this series to truly understand what's happening.
I think you can appreciate how hot the stories are regardless of knowing the backstory. But I appreciate the entire world that's created though- which is why I'd recommend having read the other stories. :)

Two thumbs up. I'm ready for more!!

3.5 Stars but closer to 4 hence star rating.....

Still think each story is a bit too short, the romance between the couples are a bit thin and the declaration of love is coming way too fast but am enjoying the on-going story so willing to plod on.

Read these two in the Bayou Collection 1-6:
Talon Isi and Talon deserved SO much more to their story, as Isi (and her awesome blood) is a pivotal character to the overall series arc IMO. Sadly, the author did not provide any real writing depth to their storyline or connection...more like characters in a silent film over what should at least have been easily an epic movie as all the plot points were already in place for godess sakes! Formlamatic, wooden lovemaking left me MEH. 2.5*

Xavier Winner-winner! A Pantera power couple is born!!! Wowzers!! Plot twist solution, check. Loving relationships, check. Smexy puma mating times? Yes please and double check. This story made reading the previos five books all worth it ;) Very satisfying 4.5*

Talon/Xavier are the 5th and 6th storylines in the Bayou Heat series by Ivy and Wright. Focusing on the search for the betrayer to the Pantera species, this particular installment moves the storyline closer to the identity of the person(s) responsible for the illness sweeping through the Bayou and the threat to Raphael’s pregnant mate. With no new births in over two decades, the Pantera population is praying for a miracle to save Raphael and Ashe’s baby.

With the search focusing on a tattoo parlor and its’ clientele’s connection to all things evil, Talon/Xavier’s storylines will bring together lost siblings and missing parents. And in doing so, one will prove to be a risk worth taking while the other will prove to be a risk best left alone. And in the end, both will be problematic to the Pantera people.

Talon/Xavier's storyline advance the series such that the familial connections are directly related to all things evil in the Bayou. But without these connections there is also the possibility of the Pantera species ending before it has had a chance for renewal.

Talon/Xavier is another welcome and fascinating addition to the Bayou Heat series. Two more Pantera male’s have found their mates and in doing so have uncovered another connection to the myth and the ‘goddess’ responsible for the slow demise of the Bayou and the Pantera race. Ivy and Wright have written a wonderful series of shifter males, their mates and, the trial and tribulations of forbidden love and the ramifications of sibling rivalry carried too far.

Talon
What can I say about Talon??? First I LOVE his character, he took me to my happy place...lol. I was glad that Talon stood up for Isi, in the end his love came first.
The Elders are pissing me off in this series though, something fishy going on with them....AND Chayton alive??? I had a feeling he might be but never thought I might be right.
Alexandria Ivy really hit it out of the ball park with this one, I loved her others in this series too but from her side of writing Talon is BY FAR my favorite.

Xavier
Though I did like this one a lot, but it's not my favorite. I think Xavier fought his feelings to hard in this, but it made for an exciting conclusion to his and Mal's story.
AND who didn't see the ending happening like it did THIS GIRL!!! Way to shock the crap out of me Laura Wright....not nice to leave me in a cliffhanger like that...not nice at all.

These have been fun 3 1/2 stars on the high side but I think 3 in a row and I'm burned out. It is the same story happening in the background and hasn't gone very far. Here we get more proof of the evilness of the elders. Another cliffhanger for the next book with the "other" half and evil sister. It is pretty obvious that good and bad both have to exist.

So the couples may have been a little better in this one but the instant love of the first was no different than the stories so far, though falling in love with the enemy was nice, and the cliffhanger ending in the middle with the second starting afterward but not saying exactly what happen and the end of the first... two cliffies. At least the second story didn't have the instant love as the woman is just trying to get her puppy love interest to see her as all grown up.

Both great stories, hoping Ashe and Isi recover fully and the baby.
Hoping they all can find a way to do away with Shapki and return Chayton to their lives.

Loads of intensity, loving, drama and great tight knit community

Gah. I read this over a month ago and forgot to write a review, so now I don't remember a whole lot about this.

Talon's story doesn't stand out much for some reason. It's definitely the more sexual of the two stories, with less plot and story development and a lot more focus on the lust and attraction between Isi and Talon.

Xavier's story I remember really well, probably because of the concept. Amalie is the youngest pantera female born so she gets over-protected, which means she hasn't been able to amass a whole lot of sexual experience. She really wants Xavier and keeps trying to tempt him, but he keeps trying to put her back in the little sister box. I didn't really buy these two being in love so much because Amalie was out looking for any guy to sleep with at the beginning of this story. She was most strongly attracted to Xavier, but she never claimed to feel like he was the "one." At least not until she'd managed to succeed in gaining his attention.

I am very intrigued by the overarching plot in these stories and like to see where it's going. Even 6 books in, what happened to Ashe and her baby is still pretty much a mystery.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Talon was adorable. I really liked him and Isi getting together. The Voodoo princess did not give it up easily. The elders kept being bitchy. Ugh

Xavier was a funny story. His best friend's sister...someone watched too many episodes of Friends. It was really adorable though.

Chayton is back...kind of. Shakpi is free or possessed or something. Not sure. Next story should be interesting. We should have some more preggo women soon.

These 2 stories were my favorites so far. I've really enjoyed this series and am enjoying the main story line and how a little bit unfolds with each novella. The relationship dynamic with these two couples were great though. They were exciting, engaging, sexy, sassy and full of over the top alpha personalities. I loved it all!

Both novellas are short so both heroes change their mind about their heroine in the blink of an eye, but the couples are interesting. The general story seems to progress more than in the previous volume, but I could do without the little cliffhanger each time

This is two very short stories. The continuing story of the Pantera, puma shifters living in the Bayou of Louisiana. This is one series that must be read in order. The individual stories are more like long chapters of a longer book.

With their magic lands dyeing, and mated couples no longer able to conceive, the Pantera are desperate for answers. When the leader of their "suits" (diplomats) Raphael, unknowingly gets a local human woman, Ashe, pregnant, this child may hold the cure they have been looking for. If they can keep their enemies from killing her and their unborn child.

Talon is one of the Pantera's hunters. He's been tracking down and catching the traitors who have harmed Raphael and Ashe's cub. Upon his return to the Wildlands, he has been told that Ashe's twin sister, Isi, has been put up in his parents home. Talon's parents were killed thirty years ago, and the house stands empty.
Isi is a voodoun priestess. They hope she will know how to heal her sister from the dark magic she has been infected with.
Isi and Ashe are the daughters of Chayton, the Indian shaman the Pantera elders have used for years. But with their births, came the prophecy. The first born daughter, Isi, would be marked with the symbol of the raven and be the destruction of the Wildlands. So Chayton, stole her before she could be sacrificed and hid her away. Now she is back, but the Wildlands have always made Isi ill. That is until Talon came along. Now when she is near him he soothes her sickness. If only he could see her as anything other than the evil that is going to destroy his people.

Xavier is a geek. Literally. He heads the Pantera's computer department. He has discovered who their enemy is desperately looking for. The shaman, Chayton. Who disappeared after the birth of his daughters never to be seen again. But if their enemy wants him, the Pantera need to find him first.
Amalie is a hunter, she is also a treasured gift among the Pantera. She is the last cub born, before their magic started dyeing. And as such, she is watched over and protected, (as if she couldn't take care of her self) by her brother and his best friend, Xavier. But with her brother, Aristide, watching over Isi in quarantine. She has a precious three days to spread her wings and have some fun. Until Xavier puts his extra large paw down and hauls her home. Where he is planning to personally watch over her until her brother's return. But Amalie is going to do everything she can to make Xavier see her as a full grown woman, not a cub. She has wanted Xavier for too many years to count. With her brother out of the picture, she just might be able to do something about that.

I like this series. The stories are engaging, and well written. Great characters, the world building is strong even in the short format, and very sexy. They grabbed me from the first page and I've been hooked ever since. What I don't like is the format. Two short stories in each book. And no real conclusions to any of the books. Just giant cliff hangers. But it's doing what they want. I'll be off to buy the next book to see what happens next.

Cover/Gestaltung

"Bayou Heat: Talon - Xavier" by Alexandra Ivy and Laura Wright. Book 5 & 6 in the Bayou Heat series.

TALON

Talon is just coming home from the hunt for the traitors that are destroying his homeland. But he's not that happy now, because Raphael, his leader, has assigned him to babysitting duty to Ashe's sister, Isi. Raphael has put Isi in Talon's old house, and when he finds her, she's in his bedroom, in HIS bed!

Isi is not happy in the Wildlands. She has litterally been sick since she's been taken prisoner. She's not allowed to leave the Wildlands because Ashe (her sister) is also sick and pregnant and being near Isi is the only thing that makes Ashe feel better. But now, the house she's staying at makes her sickness much better. Even more so in the room she chose to sleep in.

The attraction between Talon and Isi is explosive. Such chemistry! Now Talon must protect Isi from the elders from his pack who think that killing Isi will heal the destruction happening to the Wildlands. Isi is part of a prophecy that says she is evil and will destroy their home. Talon will not let that happen because he knows Isi is his fated mate.

XAVIER

Amalie is tired of being treated like a cub. Just because she is the last Pantera female to be born in 50 years, her brother Aristide and his best friend Xavier, have treated her like a delicate flower, even though she is one of the best Hunters in their pack. She is determined to prove to Xavier, who she's been crushing on for 10 years, that she is woman enough to handle him.

Xavier is going crazy. Correction, Amalie is driving him crazy! He has been attracted to her for a long time, but she's his best friend's sister. What kind of loyalty would he show Aristide if he revealed his feelings toward Amalie? Being the resident computer genious, he is also trying to track down Ashe and Isi's father, who may be able to help them save the Wildlands from an impending evil that is taking over.

Now Amalie and Xavier are both on the hunt. Will they find Ashe and Isi's father? Will he be able to help them save the Wildlands? Will their attraction distract them from their mission?

OVERALL

Both stories fit in seemlessly into each other. Cliff hanger endings in both stories! More Pantera males are introduced throughout the plot and I'm hoping they get their stories told as well (especially Hiss! Loved him right away!). LOVED LOVED LOVED these novellas! Can't wait for the next Bayou Heat!!

This is the third book of the Bayou Heat series I have read and reviewed and I’ve got to tell you, I’m hooked! These Puma shifters, called Pantera, live in the Wildlands of the Bayou in Louisiana. The problem is, that it’s failing. The magic of the Wildlands has slowly been failing over the years. It began about fifty years earlier… the females stopped having young and then other things happened slowly. Everyone was looking for the cure, and in the midst of it all, a child was conceived. Now, they were trying to keep the female and the young alive, and evil away.

Talon

As Talon returns from the mission that Raphael sent him on, rounding up the traitors in their midst, he learned he had a new, rather distasteful job. This job was so far beneath his Hunter expertise, he would have been offended had it been for any other purpose. It seemed that while he was gone, the Voodoun Priestess they brought in to help save Raphael’s mate Ashe, turned out to be her twin sister. To make matters worse, this priestess, Isi, was the Shakpi that was prophesied who would bring destruction to all of the Pantera. The problem arose for him when he stopped hating her and felt the need to protect her, even claim her as his mate.

#5 Talon & Isi
The ongoing mystery unfolds further. We find out that Isi & Ashe are twins and their father was a Shayman. We also find out that the Pantera's enemies are trying to find him.

Just having Isi in the Wildlands helps Ashe control the strange illness afflicting her pregnancy. Problem is, being in the Wildlands makes Isi physically sick/nauseous. The only thing that settles her is Talon. He is at first distrustful of her but he quickly is attracted.

The couple are both likable but this story is more about advancing the plot than the romance, though the little bit of romance is sweet.

#6 Xavier & Amalie
Xavier is a Geek Pantera. He also desires his best friend's sister, but she's special, the last Pantera cub to be born in the last 50 years. She's been in love with Xavier for years but she thinks he doesn't want her.

While I liked this story and the furthering of the storyline, I was frustrated by this couples "issues". Since there haven't been any Pantera born in 50 years and Amalie was the last that would make her 50 but she is so immature. Also, considering the Pantera are highly sexed and open about sexuality, I find it hard to believe she'd be a virgin, especially since she's a hunter. And Xavier's constant fighting his feelings got old fast. So, not my favorite couple but I liked the story.

TALON
This was my favorite novella in this book. Loved the romance between Talon and Isi, the recent discovered twin sister to Ashe. 25 years ago, Chayton, the Shaman to the Panteras, had a vision in which his first child would be the doom to the Pantera. Isi was the first baby born and the Chayton had to run with her.
Now, Isi was taken to the Wildlands to help her sister during the problematic pregnancy. She's the only one that gives strenght to Ashe and Raphael won't let the Elders harm her. Also, Talon has known Isi and he's going to protect her.
Their romance was very sweet, I loved it. Also, the little bits about the Wildlands are fascinating and make me dream.

XAVIER
Amalie was the last Pantera born and, so, she's protected by everyone, especially by her brother, Aristide. She's also in love with Xavier since she was a teenager mas Xavier won't have anything with her because she's his best friend's little sister. But, now, Amalie is determined to seduce him and he isn't capable of resisting.
Also, besides the romance, there's the plot about Xavier looking for Chayton, the shaman and father of Isi and Ashe. The little develpoments in this plot are so good and thrilling, it's a shame when the novellas end and I have to wait for the next ones to know something more.
