The full title of this book is "How Things Work: Fire Trucks". It is a small book, measuring just about 18 cm. x 16 cm. This gave me the initial impression that it is intended for the Pre-K and Kindergarten age group. The content, however, is best suited for Grades 1-3. The content itself is very good. The information has substance and goes beyond the basics to include such details as how different types of firetrucks operate and what supplies are carried onboard. The well-selected photographs and captions support comprehension of the text. The book includes a table of contents, interesting fun fact text boxes, a diagram, an attractive timeline, a science experiment, one-page article about new forest fighting vehicles, a glossary and index making this a dynamic resource on the topic. The one negative feature was the size because it might deter some of its target audience from giving it a try. I recommend this book and plan to purchase the rest of the series for my elementary school library.

Neat little nonfiction for early readers. Learn the basics of different types of fire trucks and their purposes.
