Owen convinces his best friend, Joseph, to join the town soccer league, but when it turns out that Joseph cannot play very well and that Owen is shorter than the rest of the players on the team, they are forced to face challenges they did not expect.
Boys rated it a 4 but I thought it was a 3. Started out a little boring but then got better, according to them. :). There were several "lessons" in this book...bullying, friendship, competition so I enjoyed tackling a few of them with the boys.
Owen joins his town's soccer team with his friend Joseph. Joseph is not very good at soccer and the team is mean to him. Owen stands up for Joseph and they stick together. This proves that soccer is just a game, and friends are more.
This book seemed to be an okay book. I quit reading to my young kids because the literature seemed a little old for them. Perfect for second or third graders.
I like this book. The author teaches a great lesson of fighting to keep a friend and staying strong during struggles. I chose this book because I like soccer.
