Janine Maxwell owned one of the largest marketing companies in Canada that boasted a blue chip client list. Then on 9/11 she found herself trapped in New York City when all transportation in and out of the city stopped. She had to fight her way home to her family in Canada. The world-changing events of that day became the catalyst that first sent Janine into a deep depression and later to the darkest parts of Africa in her search for the meaning of life. What happened next was a roller coaster ride fromthe board room to the streets of Africa where she found herself standing face to face with the AIDS pandemic and trying to understand what to do with 15 million orphans who are left in its wake. Her story is brutally honest and will take you straight to the heart of the issue of Africa's great need. Even the most seasoned African traveler will have their eyes opened again. All we need to do is say, "It's not okay with me, either" and then act.
This book tells the true story of how one woman started seeking her purpose in life following the tragic events of 9/11 and God answered her prayer in a profound way. Because of her obedience, Janine Maxwell has opened our eyes even wider to the dire living conditions millions of children in Africa are suffering in and challenges us to examine our hearts and determine if this is something we can live with or decide, “It’s Not Okay With Me,” and consequently do something to make a difference in these children’s lives. My Pastor routinely challenges us “To do for one what you wish you could do for everyone.” If each of us committed to make a difference in the life of one child, imagine the headway we can make to end hunger for children in Africa. It is Not Okay With Me.
A must read! But, it may break your heart, because the reality of poverty is laid bare. This story is about obedience, following the call to follow after the heart of God. To consider your own life and purpose. How can you follow the call to love the least of these. Even if it’s only one.
One woman's complete change in life vision began with a simple visit to Africa. From a corporate marketing executive to a having a passion for the hungry and AIDS stricken living in trash houses, Janine Maxwell chronicles her amazing transformation. The sadness and quality of life (especially of the children) make this book difficult to read at times, but it is so convicting. This is a problem that we cannot ignore.
WOW! Just when you thought you had everything figured out, Janine Maxwell's personal testimony reminds us that life is not ours to figure out. Beyond her own personal journey, Janinie provides insight into real issues that our western media does not cover ... the plight of children in Sub-Saharan Africa. I dare you to get a copy of "It's Not Okay with Me" (I have already given mine to a friend... save a tree right?). It might not be okay with you either!
I loved this book anyone who is traveling to Africa or who says "it's not okay with me" when they see or here about children dyeing from preventable causes, must read this book. This is the ultimate MUST READ!! Warning: this book is not for the faint of heart. But is for all those in search of the truth.
Incredible book. Janine Maxwell opened my eyes to plight of orphaned children in Africa, and helped me understand that one person can make a difference. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know how they can "get involved."
He book was a lifechanger for me. Since then, I've been to Swaziland to work on Project Canaan with Janine. What an inspiration she is. Read this and you will be challenged and blessed.
