In the shifter world, submission means something different than it does to humans.
Ezekiah Sadler is an omega who doesn’t want to be claimed.
Parker Ellis is an alpha who needs to make the omega his.
Ezekiah’s wolf might submit to the first alpha who claims him, but Ezekiah wants more than that. If Parker can see past old prejudices, he might find his omega is more than he expected, and exactly what he needs.

So Lisa Henry wrote a shifter story.

And it's damn good.

Knotting

Mating
(Dub-con initially as Parker takes what he wants, but when Parker sees Ezekiah the man and not just a "knotting whore," it's beautiful.)

Omega in heat
(No words. *fans self*)

Hurt/comfort

Enemies to lovers
(Ezekiah's wolf always wants Parker, but it takes longer for his man to come round.)

Pack politics
(Intriguing premise regarding Parker's rise to power; the scene at the end made my heart beat faster.)

KNOTTING
(Bears repeating; this might be my favorite knotting scene EVER. Seriously intense and dirty.)

Biting
(See mating above.)

D/s
(Light overtones with a voyeuristic scene and Ezekiah's gorgeous submission.)

Only complaint: I wanted Ezekiah's parents to suffer the wrath of Alpha Parker Ellis upon them.

This one's delicious. Recommended for seriously hot wolfy action and tons of feels too!

Do you think if I got down on my knees and licked whipping cream off Lisa Henry's feet, she'd write more like this?

Cause I want. God do I want.

I can solidly add shifters to my Lisa Henry list. I enjoy her shifters. I'm finally seeing what everyone else is talking about. :) One day, her published works might finally take with me. But her free stuff rocks!

Anyway, KNOTTING.

You read the prompt? All the prompts were hot but I had faves...this was one of them. Because? KNOTTING!

I love shifters but A/B/O dynamics?

I want to claim it for all to see. Mmmhmm alpha cock KNOTTING omega dripping ass?
Wait. Wait. Getting ahead of myself.

19 year old Omega Ezekiah is in hiding in San Francisco. Abused by his pack and thought of being lesser just by being omega, Ezekiah ran away at 16 from Oregon to the big city and kept to himself. He's fearful though. He's afraid of his submissive nature, of being treated as a "slut mutt" and "knot whore" and "rape bait". He's more than a willing hot hole, driven by his nature to submit. And he has survived on his own for three years without getting any other alpha's notice until being suffering from the after effects from his heat.

Then he meets an alpha who wants to KNOT dat ass. And my Spidey smutty senses were tingling:

Because KNOTTING. But no. Not at first at least.

Sex happened but it wasn't about the sex, at first. It was about Kiah being recognized by his new alpha Parker as more than a hole to fuck and suck. Parker wanted to dominate and expected automatic submission because that is all he expected from an omega.

But the magic of the story (for me) was Parker realizing the gift he had in Kiah's submission. He learned to treasure and respect it. So when the sex finally happened (in more detail), it was within a shared bond.

Oh and when that KNOTTING happened...
“I want you to split me apart on your knot.”

(You think I'm writing a shifter review without using a Stiles gif? Not likely.)

And I didn't even switch names to Derek & Stiles while reading. Mostly. Okay I did in the beginning. :P

There was an interesting backstory with Parker's pack and how he became an alpha. I liked the twist toward the end. I liked the postcard thing but I wished there was maybe a little showdown or something from whoever that was because 3 years of watching and not acting and then you send the postcard only? It's explained mostly but I like revenge/injustice mete out. What can I say, I'm a little bloodlusty. *shrugs*

I loved the D/s. Enjoyed Kiah as a character and enjoyed the HEA.

My thanks to the author and the team behind this wonderful event!

I’m not a real fan of Lisa Henry because I tried some of her books and I didn’t enjoy them or finish the book even, but this one was really good and I liked it. Well, toward the end the pacing was a bit too fast but still! Told in dual POV, 3rd person, it’s a standalone novella. It’s a bit angsty with likable characters and you can count it as enemies-to-lovers romance. Overall, I had a good time reading this and hope you like it as well!

This was written for the BDSM group's Bring Out Your Kink.

Thanks to Jeanne for the awesome prompt, and for everyone behind the scenes who helped knock it into shape. In future though if anyone wants to remind me not to pick up any prompts when I'm spending several weeks overseas before they're due, that would be great! Ah, who am I kidding? I'd do it all again!

Mostly I wrote this to see if I could write something about shifters where one character was not Stiles...

I think I managed it, but now I have to go back to writing Sterek or Steter or Steterek. No, I'm not stuttering.

You know what happens when you run from a predator?

Kiah's been on his own, taking care of business for years. Proving his family wrong and making it in the city as a lone omega. Until one day trouble comes looking for him and he has to make a choice. That choice leads to a series of actions each pulling Kiah further from his hard won freedom.

Parker, alpha of the Ellis pack has got problems and that's before an unclaimed omega comes hightailing it into his packs territory during one of their runs. Politics and the imperative drive to claim pushes the alpha and omega together while being so far apart.

Overall, dub-con wolfy goodness.

AWWWWWWWW *hugs story*

description

Kiah's a cute lil omega wolf and in need of some comfort after his pack tried to sell him. Asshats. Peter, I mean, Parker is up to the task. He's also possessive and growly.

All things I like!

They have some missteps initially, naturally. I loved how they learned from each other and broke through some common misconceptions about both Omegas and Alphas.

It's more D/s dynamics than any thing, so if you're resisting due to the BDSM it's not heavy.

“Can alphas mate with omegas?” Kate asked softly. “An alpha’s mate, particularly a Pack Alpha’s mate, is supposed to be strong, not submissive.”

“Why do we act like those things are mutually exclusive?”

I loved all the pack dynamics and especially the thing with the mom.

AWWWWW!

description

Kiah brings unity to the pack and being a valued part of it allows him to begin to thrive again. Plus, KNOTTING.

The only thing that I couldn't reconcile is if Omegas are so rare and sought after and almost revered then why treat them like "knot whores" or "rape bait"? The actions and the words didn't coalesce for me, so 4.5 Stars from me.

Thanks to the author and her team for participating in the Bound by Ink event!

This filled my requirements of what I like in an A/B/O. I won't bore you with why - I just do!

The reality in this shifter AU was more harsh than I'm used to, where omegas aren't looked upon highly, their worth long forgotten due to their rarity. Poor Ezekiah doesn't want to be a victim of inevitability, but his wolf's natural urges pretty much ensure that regardless of what his mind wants, he will submit to a powerful alpha with little resistance. Enter Parker. His wolf too, wants to blindly claim the omega, and he does so with relative ease.

This had good angsty longing to go with a nice hurt/comfort, as well as alpha protectiveness and possessiveness plus KNOTTING. I just wish we got a more drawn out development of the caring and getting to know one another between Parker and Ezekiah. It's there, but I wanted more!! I'm greedy like that.

However, I love the premise, and I would definitely never say no to Henry writing in this trope ever, and that goes for Sterek too. Just saying...

Thank you!

An interesting mashup of a shifter A/B/O verse and BDSM.
I also liked the way Parker reassessed his conception of Omegas.
Well-written, as always for Lisa Henry.

Re-read - February 2020 - so good, really enjoy this short story!

March 2016 - such a good Omega/Alpha story.

Review:

This was wonderful. I love a good sexy story with plot and amazing character development! Quite frankly every Lisa Henry story I've read so far has been exactly that.

I loved Ezekiah, poor boy was abused and neglected by his family pack and ran away to avoid being sold to the highest bidding alpha. There's some fun dub-con at the beginning of this and the emotions coursing through Ezekiah were really well written, I felt so bad for him and was glad when Parker finally got his head out of his ass. Then it got really hot.

Kiah squirmed in his seat and moaned. He was shining with sweat now, and smelled sweet and heady. He smelled like pure unadulterated need. He swiped his tongue over his lower lip, and squeezed his legs together. Then, evidently not getting the friction he wanted, he pressed his hands hard against his dick. A tremor ran through him, and his breath burst out of him in shudders. “I want you to split me apart on your knot. Please, Parker, please. ”

I liked the side story as well, but would have liked to see his old pack rot in a ditch after being shred to pieces by Parker, not to be to morbid or anything :-P

I wouldn’t say this is a BDSM book. Yes, there is domination, but that’s normal for wolves.

description

I really enjoyed this one even though it is definitely not a fluffy shifter book.

Ezekiah has been running from his old pack for the past 3 years, ever since he came out as an omega at 16. He was used as a punching bag by his old pack and his parents wanted to auction him off to the highest bidder.

Ezekiah doesn’t want to be claimed by an alpha, but he knows it will eventually happen. So when he runs into a wolf in the park one night, he knows he is out of luck.

Parker, the alpha, knows he must claim the omega he found, otherwise he would seem weak to other packs. He finds out where Ezekiah lives and he claims him. It is in Ezekiah’s nature to submit to the alpha and even though his wolf loves it, the man he is is not so happy about it.

description

Parker takes Ezekiah home and thinks all is settled. He has an omega. But when he finds out his omega is not really a happy omega he must rethink what to do next.

I really felt for Ezekiah, he was just so sad. The way he kept crying when he just met Parker and tried to accept his fate really broke my heart.

And even though I did like Parker, I hated the fact that he didn’t care what Ezekiah wanted when they first met. Yes, they both enjoyed their mating, but I wanted Parker to grovel a little when he found out that Ezekiah, the man, was pretty much taken against his will. But that part never happened.

Still, this was a A/B/O story with a somewhat dark feel, which I really liked. I’m dropping half a star, simply because of the lack of groveling from Parker’s side.

Lisa Henry builds a very solid and interesting world in very few pages. The way both the alpha and the omega come to grips with what it means to be the dom and the sub in their lives, and in their relationship, is beautifully done.

Five howlingly perfect stars

Ezekiah Sadler was never valued in his own pack, and since escaping, he has managed to live unclaimed for the last three years until he literally runs into alpha Parker Ellis.

Parker is dealing with his own issues as his pack's new alpha and for political reasons must claim omega Kiah. The omega may be submissive wolf but he is also strong and sexy man who has dealt with prejudice his whole life.

This story is beautifully told as man and wolf are at odds. Ezekiah knows his wolf will probably submit to any strong alpha, but as a man, he wants to be able to choose and to be valued as a person too.

A sharp laugh escaped him, and it sounded incredulous, bitter. “You wanted to make an omega kneel for you? Submit to you? Did that pump up your alpha ego? Too bad it doesn’t count, because it’s not you I’m going belly up for, it’s my own biological imperative. You think you’re special just because I got drunk on your scent? You’re just another alpha dick to me!”

This tale cleverly mixes cultural expectations and emotional drama with sexy times, romance and of course a smattering of BDSM themes too. It will also hold a place in my heart for providing my first introduction to knotting.

The only thing that could make this story better is if it was longer (because I am greedy that way).

Huge thanks to the author for contributing to the inaugural BDSM group's BRING OUT YOUR KINK - Bound by Ink writing event, and a plea to bring us more of Kiah and Parker and their shifter world.

Free shifter smut by Lisa Henry? Yes please.
description

The start of Ezekiah and Parker's relationship is definitely dub-con. Ezekiah's wolf side is willing to submit, his human side not so much, and Parker doesn't care either way. Parker's attitude made me want to punch him in the face repeatedly. The cold-hearted alpha soon realizes that his new omega is more than just a good fuck, and that he needs to woo Ezekiah if he wants to build a life together.

The BDSM in 'Ezekiah' is very incidental. There's a D/s dynamic between Ezekiah and Parker, but that's more the result of wolf dynamics than anything more "formal". Even so, the sex was hella hot. These two go hard and rough.

Also, knotting. Oh, I'm sorry, I mean KNOTTING.
description

My only complaint would be that the family drama was an unnecessary distraction, and didn't really add much in the end. I think the story would have worked just as well without involving Ezekiah's long-absent douchebag family.

Overall, a fun and sexy shifter read, with a side of some comfort/healing. Also, did I mention the KNOTTING and rough sex?

It's true.

Because one one hand we have knotting. And Omegas. And Omegas in heat.

And on the other, we have an Alpha that is more wolf than man, and an Omega that's more man than wolf. So when our Alpha gets one whiff of our lone Omega and decides to take him and make him his, I understood the Alpha, but I felt for the man.

Ezekiah is Omega, something rare enough to know that he'll never be treasured the way he would like to be. Instead he'll be sold to the highest bidder if his parents have anything to say about it. He's a knot whore, the pack bitch, and there's nothing he can do about it.

Except run away.

And he's pretty successful at it, until three years later, when he's forced to run for his life through another pack's lands. Bad enough that he's a lone wolf. Worse though, is that he's an unclaimed Omega.

Parker is Alpha of his pack. He realizes what Kiah is and is determined to make him his. But there's a problem with that. He hasn't taken into consideration that Kiah is a man as well as an Omega and there's more to it than just being a very convenient knot whore.

He'll have to gain Kiah's trust and show him that he understands his value.

I didn't particularly like how that came about but that's on me. I'm used to my shifter books being less wolfy.

Here, pack politics and biological imperative determine wolfy behaviour and human feelings don't come into consideration as much.

So I think I'll give Ezekiah a hug, and sit back and watch all that knotting. And heat fever.

And knotting.

And imagine them with a really good future ahead of them.

Filled with lots of knotting.

I don't know what the hell happened to my previous review...?!

I've decided to re-read this short because a) I didn't remember any of the content though I gave it 5 stars; b) it's Lisa Henry, hello, I'll always want to read her stories! :)

Well, after the re-read it's still a 5-star rating, maybe 4.5 rounded up ;)

And it still reminds me of One Last Try by Kari Gregg. Why? Because both of these little books are very unusual...

Lisa Henry's take on werewolves, and especially on Alpha/Omega dynamic, is totally different from any other ABO verse books I've read. And that she combined it with the Master/sub kind of relationship, within a wolfshifter pack, was also very unusual.

Parker and Ezekiah (Kiah) did not have a lot of page time to get to know each other and to develop their relationship (it's only around a 100-page story) but I could still understand their wants, needs and reservations very well. It isn't surprising, though. Lisa Henry's storytelling has never let me down. And also this time I fell for her MCs and loved the pack dynamics she's created.

Definitely a nice little story to add to your wolfy TBR! ;)

I loved this story. I wanted more of this story, and it was exactly what I needed today. Short and edgy with romance thrown in.

This isn't a fully developed romance, because it's about wolf-shifters and they are savage and primal. But there is enough to make this sweet, in a 75% cocoa kind of way.

I was connected to the characters, and invested in the story.

I did wish the relationship was more developed, but that would make it a novel length story instead of a taste of what a great story teller Lisa is.

It was D/s lite (not Nintendo) but enough to make it believable in the confines of the beginnings of the relationship.

Plenty of material for future stories (hint hint).

Kiah and Parker are a wonderful pair.

Thank you to the author for participating in the BDSM group Bring out your kink - Bound by Ink event.

An omega wolf shifter who works double shifts at Starbucks and, due to unavoidable circumstances, meets and submits to an alpha. Eventually he becomes the alpha's mate and the pack’s lucky charm. Fun, outdoorsy/urban style/ tale with HEA and lots of heat situations. Wolf howls.

I don't read a lot of shifter books but if Lisa Henry is going to write a shifter book, I'm going to add it. I really love her writing. Her MCs are believable and immediately lovable. Their developing relationships are realistic. The D/s aspect of this book totally worked for me. Snuck this one in between Evenfall 1 and 2.

Omg, I loved this alpha/omega dynamic! I'm a bit skeptical with it sometimes. Because alpha/omega tend to be TPE. I don't mind with that. As long as you could put it in the right place. I don't like 'doormat'. I love it when Parker trying to earn his place in Kiah's heart, how Kiah kneeled because he wanted to not because being told to.

Thank you so much to the author and the team behind this story. <3

Warning : Dub/con to the max.

Steamy, sexy, short!

A bit up and down writing-wise, but the ending came together nicely in this A/B/O shifter story set in San Francisco. Add a side of D/s for some spice!

A rogue omega escaped his backwards and abusive pack only to be sniffed out by an SF alpha. He doesn’t treat him very well at first, but soon he learns that an omega is more than a “slut mutt.” Ya, there are some doozies in here!

My rec? If you’re ready to hear the words “knot whore” repeatedly, go for it!

well written, well done, yes. liked the characters in general.

so why just 2 stars, you ask..
tbh, it's my own damn fault, because i very much suspected this to not be to my liking.

because it is as I feared. the A/B/O-verse is absolutely not for me. i gave this one a shot, because ya know, Lisa Henry and all, but nope. the alpha-omega dynamic just lets my hair stand on end and never fails to give me hate, hate hate-feelz.

so really, this book never stood a chance when it comes to me. very sorry to give a low rating.
kudos and thanks to Lisa for participating anyways! <3

Aaah, what a lovely treat this was!

What I was surprised about was at times the almost fade to back sex. Sure there was knotting and dirty language etc. involved but for me this was more a study of the duality of werewolfs and submission and domination. I love Lisa for all the free works she pushes out for all of us to enjoy <3

Gah! Where is the rest of this story? There seems to be more, so much more but we just get a little taste. I felt so badly for Ezekiah. There seems to be a couple of threads that are left flapping in the wind. What happened to his old pack? I hope they all died. Who sends the postcards?

The BDSM is sweet and sexy. Ezekiah is an omega who has been abused. When loved and protected by Parker, he flourishes. Parker is a young alpha with secrets. Parker may have started as an asshat, but he does become a better alpha near the end. His dominance is sexy. If there were a bit more BDSM, I would be thrilled. A nice teasing tidbit.
