When Marine widow Monica Montgomery’s son tore his ACL sliding into home plate, the last thing she expected to find at the hospital was a second chance at love. But the six foot six orthopedic surgeon tempts her to play doctor. Too bad her teenage daughter is hell bent on keeping the Navy Lieutenant Commander’s love boat anchored in port. Dr. Jason Knight has patched up military men and women from Afghanistan to Okinawa. Now he faces his greatest challenge, filling the hole in the lives of this broken family.
My best friend calls me “her Fairy Godmother,” but I feel more like Cinderella. After over twenty-five years of living a typical life, I now live my dreams and I create them too.
Nothing is better than creating a brand new world from a blank piece of paper. Breathing life into characters and watching their stories unfold—I am truly blessed.
I live in on eight acres in middle Tennessee with my husband, my son, two dogs and four cats. I am privileged to have two precious grandsons.
When I’m not on my computer or reading my kindle, you’ll usually find me in the kitchen. I love to cook! If I’m not there, I’m on the fields, watching my grandsons’ soccer or baseball games.
It’s never too late to chase your dreams. I’m proof you can catch them, even if arthritis slows you down. Who knows, your own Fairy Godmother may be just a dream away.
I truly enjoyed creating this military romance. Monica and Jason are a unique pair. This romance has humor, heart and a wonderful family, that I think you you will fall in love with, as much as I did while I wrote about them.
Jason Knight is not your typical Navy man. He is an Orthopedic surgeon, and while he has served in the hellholes of the world, he is at heart a doctor. At forty-seven, he has finally been stationed stateside for good and is ready to settle down. He never expected the woman of his dreams to come with a ready-made family, especially one that contained a teenage girl that seems to hate his guts. But, Jason is determined to win her over, because Monica is worth it! And a lifetime of happiness is the prize.
Monica never thought she'd get a second chance at love, but Dr. Jason Knight, the antithesis of her previous husband, turns out to be all she never dreamed of. She falls hard for the good doctor, but life keeps throwing obstacles in their path. She's been fighting for a peaceful life for so long...is it worth it to keep fighting?
Monica lost her husband in a motorcycle accident, he had 19 years of active duty remaining unhurt only to die on a country road at home. Monica was devastated now she had 3 children to take care of on her own as well as her own business. Monica's son suffers a serious leg injury playing baseball at the hospital she meets Jason Knight an orthopedic surgeon who will be attending to her son Mitchell. Monica's first concern is her son's welfare - but she finds Dr Knight attractive and feelings long dormant are stirring within her. Monica and Jason spend time together during Mitchell's recovery in and out of the hospital and begin a very easy friendship that grows into a strong attraction but Monica's daughter Angela was not happy or accepting that her mother was moving on after her husband's death. This was a clean, refreshing, and heartwarming story I fell in love with the characters from the first page and by the end felt like they were part of my family.
The song "Sweet Home Alabama" kept circling in my head reading this story. It doesn't take place in Alabama but it certainly is sweet. Monica has her hands full with her teenagers and her grief. Her husband served his country and loved his family dearly. Finally home, he's taken from her in a senseless accident. Now she's on her own. When her son slides into home base and injures his knee, Monica's love life is given a second chance with one very handsome military doctor.
"Changing Tides" is an easy "feel good" read when Monica and the Doc get a chance to ignite their desire to grab life and each other. Monica's daughter has a few things to say about their relationship, but what teenage girl doesn't when she's still hurting over her father. Step out of your daily routine into Tamara Hoffa's novella to while away a few passionate moments in her newest book.
Monica Montgomery is a widow, raising her three kids, with a little help from her deceased husband's parents. Jason Knight is a Navy Orthopedic Surgeon. The two meet when Monica's twelve-year-old son tears his ACL and has to have surgery.
I enjoyed Changing Tides. It's a story of a blended family coming together, navigating grief, unexpected love and change. The story is a bit of a departure from the romances I usually read. The hero and the heroine are both over the age of forty. That may be common, but for me, it's not. I found it a little refreshing. As a couple, Monica and Jason are good together. You can tell they have fun and enjoy each other's company. In fact, at times they acted like hormonal teenagers. The story felt as if it could be someone's real life.
While I liked the story, I did have some issues with it. Issue one: I think it's insane to have characters of this age who have only known each other for three weeks consciously do the horizontal dance without protection their first time. He's a freaking doctor!!!! This dance wasn't spur of the moment. They weren't overcome with need. They should know better. Issue two: I love dirty talkers. Jason attempts to talk dirty, but it just comes off as cheesy. Issue three: (Spoiler or maybe not) Jason and Monica break up because of her seventeen-year-old daughter. I appreciated Jason's reaction to the situation. Monica was a different story. I would like to think I would have handled things differently, but who knows.
My biggest issue with Changing Tides is that while everything before the true conflict was revealed seemed believable, the resolution to the conflict came too quickly and felt unrealistic. For that matter, the ending was also too quick and too easy. It was like nothing had happened to test Monica, Jason, and the family unit at all.
Even with my issues, the story was still good. I loved the idea of finding love when you aren't looking for it. A hero willing to take on an immediate family, even with a snarky/rude teenager. Tamara Hoffa continues to be one of those authors who delivers stories that draw you in and have you investing yourself in the characters.

Title: Changing Tides Author: Tamara Hoffa Genre: Romance Rating 5 out of 5 stars PG 13 due to the love scenes
After retiring from the Military Dan Montgomery is tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. His wife Monica and their three children, Angela (16), Mitchell (12) and Olivia (4), spend the next two years struggling to survive their loss. Dr. Jason Knight is a military orthopedic surgeon, who has spent the majority of his career traveling, living wherever the military sent him. He has recently been assigned to a permanent station and has settled down. He is looking for the woman of his dreams to build a life with. The tide of life is about to change for Monica and Jason. The two meet when Monica’s son Mitchell is injured in a baseball game. From then on this exquisite romance will captivate your heart, mind, body and soul. Hoffa is able to breathe life into her characters. Her descriptive writing style will make you empathize with every thought feeling and emotion. I literally felt the tension of Angela’s deep rooted anger towards her mother’s budding romance. I wanted to reach into the book and wrap my arms around the teenager and tell her that everything was going to be alright. An author who has the ability to make me feel that much emotion is top notch in my eyes. The love scenes will take you to unimaginable heights. Not only are these scenes everything true love should be, they are beautifully and tastefully written. I couldn’t have asked for more. Changing Tides is definitely a five out of five block buster romance. It is a must read for all. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015...
Monic Montgomery is a widow trying to run her business while bringing her three children up. She has mourned her husband but is still angry at him for taking risks and leaving them. Whilst watching her son play baseball he hurts his knee and has to go to hospital, whilst there she meets Dr. Jason Knight. Dr Jason Knight is a lieutenant commander that has been served his time overseas and is looking to put down roots. He has bought a house by the beach and is looking for his ideal woman but is not having very good luck until he meets Monica. This is a beautifully touching and emotional story. Monica is a strong woman who is doing everything she can to help and support her children. She has struggled with her husband’s death and the angry she has felt. When she meets Jason she is immediately drawn to him and the relationship between them is beautifully developed. The problems they face are well written and I’m sure many will be able to relate to them. Jason is a fantastic lead the understanding and support he shows is touching. The author draws out so many emotions in the reader and leads you through the developing relationship. It is well developed and beautifully written. I would recommend this to anyone that loves a touching, sweet romance.
Monica Montgomery is a widow raising three kids. Her deceased husband was in the military but was killed in a motorcycle accident when he was home. She meets Jason Knight, an Orthopedic Surgeon, when he performs surgery on her 12 year old son's knee.
Jason is instantly attracted to Monica. It takes a little bit for Monica to risk opening up herself with someone else. I thought that Dan, her deceased husband, even though he loved his family came across as being a little self centered. I loved that Jason puts Monica first.
They do have some rocky parts. You're going to when you have teenage children involved and past baggage. Which makes this story so believeable and realistic.
I loved the characters in the book and how they entertwined with each other
"Changing Tides" is a short, sweet and romantic story about finding love for the second time. A year after losing her husband who was a Marine but died in a traffic accident (talk about misfortune) Monica meets a sexy orthopedic surgeon called Jason.
The book is really short so the action comes almost in minutes. There is passion, excitement, and love. Both Monica and Jason are adults, which is why their relationship is simple, straight to the point and mature.
Monica's kids (she has three) have mix feelings about their relationship and their actions affect her and Jason.
Overall, this is a nice book, easy to read, entertaining and sweet.

Monica is a busy widow with 3 children. Jason is the sweet doctor who is lonely. The two meet when Monica's son is injured. Things move right along from there. It doesn't take long for Jason to get a date with Monica. The writing was very good and this was an easy read. The story line moves along at a quick pace. Scenery description is a little lacking. However, the sex scene is not. The characters were well developed. The interaction with the children in the story was sweet. Overall a nice story of starting over and love conquering all.
I loved this story. Cried over it and loved the emotions shown. Also loved the support Monica got from her husband's parents. It is so well written and keeps you reading the whole way through.
What a moving story about love lost, families shattered and holding it all together on your own. To love found, a new life started, families put back together and a life of dreams full filled.
