A Must Have for Every Thinking Person's "Bookshelf"
What a great resource to help jumpstart anyone's creativity! First Harry Hoover debunks the idea that only some people are born creative. He makes the case that we all are and then provides a toolbox full of ideas to spur us on. A fun quick read, this book is one I will refer to often. I loved his take on brainstorming. As someone who has sat through far too many brainstorming sessions, I absolutely agree that it's an exercise for one. Another approach he suggests, which was new to me, is having someone write three ideas on paper and passing it on to the next person to do the same. At the end, a robust list of ideas is ready for discussion, without the inevitable judgment that creeps in during brainstorming sessions. The book is full of different ways to look at any situation. So simple, yet brilliant. I can't wait to put his ideas into practice.
I was asked to review this book by the author. This is an honest and unbiased review.
Sometimes, you have something to say and it's too short for a book or too long for a blog post. "Born Creative" moves in between and that is great. I can tell Harry has explore creativity for a long time. Somehow, so have I and that is where I connected. This book goes straight to the point and has some good pointers about how to unleash the creativity we all have. Before reading this book, I have tried several of the examples by myself so I can properly say they work magic. I mean, creativity is quite private, particular and different for each and every one of us, but overall, the subjects, ideas and advices the book has are fresh, concise and relevant.
A good book to read while commuting (however, it is a "do it" book, so after reading, you need to start working on the ideas the book delves into).
Yes you can and yes you are...creative that is. Born Creative: Free Your Mind, Free Yourself sets you up to find what is already inside you. Simple to the point ideas and instructions on helping that child inside "get the crayons out again"! Don't over thin don't tell your self no, just create.
As a creative person I sometimes find it hard to think others are not ...and this says it all...they are creative, they just have to let themselves be and perhaps work on it a little more to make it a habit.
As a homeschool mom I think this is a book we will keep around and do some of the ideas now and late as he grows. Never put the crayons away to the point they get lost!
This is a good book. Quick to read and has some good ideas in it. Asks some good thought provoking questions towards the end of the book for how to analyze and rethink your product, idea, or service. Good for the links to helpful tools to use at the end as well. Thanks Harry
There are a lot of ideas crammed into this little book...but I guess that is what creativity is all about. As Hoover points out when asked to come up with ideas the average adult might generate 5 or 6, a child can generate around 60. This book helps us to get past the belief, that schools have indoctrinated us with, that there is just one right answer. The book is full of exercises and suggestions to show us that there are many more than one right answer. The other main misconception the Mr. Hoover's book tackles is that only a few of us are born creative. Again the excercises and suggestions in this book can stimulate everyone's creativity. We are all born creative. It's the school and workplace that stifles the creative impulse in us all. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a short read on how to begin exercising that creative muscle we all have.
Excellent, quick read to help with ideas on how to return to the creativeness we are born with. Besides just going with 'think outside of the box' the author gets specific about what that phrase actually means. For example, how to brainstorm properly, reframing, what can you do, add or eliminate to make yourself or your product/service different. Excellent questions that will be helpful to me in writing newsletters. The author includes a comprehensive list of resources to direct readers to topics they might need.
Got this through Kindle and am very disappointed. The book itself doesn’t even start till 11% of the way through. Huge quotes take up pages. The worst part? His website link is included in the middle of the book. A poor reading experience, overall.
I've loved it!! this book makes me feel ready to 2020, gives you a new way to be creative with amazing quotes and exercises that helps you to go further with your creativity. I've read it with green tea and a notebook (very necessary) very recommendable!!
Short read with simple concepts. Essentially, change your mindset and if you believe your at creative then you can accomplish whatever forgiveness you can come up with. Time management is everything and allow yourself the time to improve.
I got the free ebook on Amazon without any expectations. The 55 pages are read fast and give you some "quick and dirty" ideas to get out of a creative slump. The ressources section is unexpectatly long and most of the stuff mentioned there seems definitely worth a try
Tips presented are useful in daily life idea hunting sessions. Would definitely recommend this book to everyone who want to explore what their mind is capable of.
Written by a brand strategist, Born Creative shares with the reader a unique insight into understanding how to leverage the creative process. Hoover defines creativity as the tendency to generate, or recognize ideas, alternatives, or even possibilities that may prove useful in solving problems, communicating, and even entertaining ourselves.
Focusing on the full range of our innate creativity, Hoover espouses upon the concept of the genesis of creativity and removing hindrances to its development. He references several studies, quite pertinent to societal concerns. The author hints, though subtlety, at the power of positive affirmations.
The central theme, overcoming the obstacles hampering the creative process, is SCAMMPERR. This is a method for developing an original idea. As previously mentioned, there are societal concerns that this book presents a solution for. Quite a large number of individuals are concerned with financial freedom, losing weight, educating our children, and the pursuit of happiness. Yet, something is always stopping them. What is the answer? Hoover presents, in this easy-to-read booklet a method to assist freelancers, dieters, and even budding authors in developing solutions and alternatives to some of the aforementioned problems.
Why five stars? This is an excellent and timely resource that can be referred to many times.
