3. Rainbows

If you were to ask Mickey Williams, these would not be her top points of inspiration for designing a party dress. But in fashion, the client is always right...and Mickey's client happens to be fashion legend Victoria Vanderweil's five-year-old granddaughter. Even though it's the toughest assignment Mickey's gotten during her time at the Fashion Academy of Brooklyn, she can't pass up the opportunity to impress a top designer like Victoria.

But when Cordy turns out to be a tiny terror with non-stop demands, the assignment goes from hard to impossible. Not only that, but Victoria wants Mickey to babysit Cordy during NYC Fashion Week! Can Mickey pull off her project and pass, or will it fall apart at the seams?

See how it all began in The Fashion Academy!

Pre-teen fashion designer Mickey Williams knows the client is always right, even if the client happens to be the legendary Victoria Vanderweil’s five-year-old granddaughter. Especially if the client happens to be Victoria Vanderweil’s five-year-old granddaughter! So, balloons, spaghetti and rainbows it will be as Mickey competes with other Fashion Academy students to design a birthday dress the granddaughter will love while simultaneously keeping track of said granddaughter and staying true to her own sense of style. The second in the Fashion Academy series, Runway Ready is both an entertaining sequel to the popular Fashion Academy and a fun stand-alone for those who missed the first book. Appropriate (if a little far-fetched) for late-elementary/early-middle school readers, Runway Ready is a quick, fun romp through Fashion Week.

Runway Ready is book two in the Fashion Academy series by the mother/daughter writing duo Sheryl and Carrie Berk. This was my first time reading a book by these authors and my first fashion-themed read. I'm not sure what really drew me to read this one (the cover? The characters go to a Fashion Academy? The fact that I'm a fan of Project Runway? I don't know!) but I'm glad that I, at least, gave it a shot.

Did I love it? No. Did I enjoy it? Yes. It was a nice little read for those times when you don't know what to read. What I did enjoy was the writing style even though the characters didn't intrigue me all that much. And while it didn't quite win me over complete I still think that other fans of Project Runway and Project Runway JR. will enjoy this one.
