A brief survey of how textile production has evolved from the simple use of animal skins or twisted grasses to the complex modern industry that exists today. The effects of (and on) the society of the time are discussed, and the factors leading to progress are included. Technical details are kept to the minimum needed for an understanding of the material being presented, with illustrations to show how the various processes and machines appear or operate. The book is intended for people unfamiliar with the subject, and will be useful in courses relating history to technology in secondary schools or colleges.
