Dani Moore barely escaped her abusive marriage. Six years later, she just wants to raise her little girl in peace. When she learns that her ex-husband is out on early parole, she goes into hiding, adopting a new name and starting a new life far away from the man who tried to kill her.

Detective David Wilde learned the hard way that romance and police work don’t mix, at least not for him. Since his divorce, he’s kept his heart closed off and his focus on the job. For Dave, being a cop isn’t only a career, it’s a way of life that defines every choice he makes…until he meets Dani.

Hired as the new cook at his family’s bar and grill, Dani’s a sweet and sexy package that brings light and color back into Dave’s life. When that light is threatened by Dani’s past, Dave will do whatever it takes to protect what’s his.

Can two battle-scarred hearts find the strength to love again, or will an act of revenge destroy their future before they’ve even begun?

Susan lives out on the Canadian west coast surrounded by open water, dear family and good friends. She’s jumped out of perfectly good airplanes on purpose and accidentally swum with sharks on the Great Barrier Reef. If the world ends, she plans to survive as the spunky, comedic sidekick to the heroes of the new world, because she’s too damned short and out of shape to make it on her own for long.

Writing is her joy, her escape from reality and the only way she knows of to quiet the nagging harridan of a muse the universe assigned to her.

Dani Moore and her daughter Casey are survivors of domestic abuse and remain safe as long as her ex-husband is in prison. That safety comes to an abrupt end when he shows up at Casey's school attempting to remove her. Luckily Dani has trained Casey for such a contingency and the attempted kidnapping is averted.

Finding out her ex has been released early, Dani initiates the safety plan she's had in place. Relocation and new identities in a new city: Chicago.

Detective David Wilde, eldest son of the Wilde family, plans to be the best uncle he can but has no plans to remarry and/or produce offspring himself until he gets a look at the new cook at his brother's bar and grill. That she has a daughter is icing on the cake. Getting close to her may be a problem though as it's apparent she's hiding secrets. With his family having security and police connections, whatever it is must be big but will it be enough to stop him from making her his....

The tease and blurb for this book doesn't do justice to the actual storyline. The core IS a mainstream romance between a police detective and a mother who has survived domestic abuse and is now in hiding. However, it brings to the cold hard reality of an abusive ex-husband who has total disdain for the legal system because HE decides things aren't over and what's his will always be his. My emotions were all over the place as the legal process failed Dani multiple times yet she didn't judge the entire legal system because of it. She still had hope. Hope that appeared in the form of David Wilde.

The circumstances surrounding Dani & Daniel meeting were highly charged emotional powder kegs but they didn't let that stop them. Sure this story had a fairy tale fantasy feel but for me that was totally appreciated. If anyone needed a fairy godmother it was Casey & Dani. I was also happy that the race card had no prominent mention. Black, white, red, brown, green, purple, are all just colors and that's the way it should be. The heart chooses who the heart chooses and so too should the justice system.

As for the adult content. Definitely had a realism and sensual feel though I love stories that factor in the reality of sex when the main characters are parents. Forget spontaneous and go for the moment scenes. With a child is in the house, sex is much more challenging. lol.

As for the white elephant in the room. The author didn't allow the stalking ex to become anything more than a background filler for the story. And rightly so. The threat was there for sure but never having it become more than that really hammered in the fact that life should go on for survivors though they need to remain vigilant and safe until it's resolved. That's how asswipes like Robert should be treated in stories such as this. One vague comment. I did figure out from the start how Robert was able to keep in the game of finding Dani. Just sayin. :)

Though there were many positives and many more high five moments in this story for me it did have several issues that I can't really get into as they would be spoiler info topics. I also will admit that the price for this e-book gave me pause.

This is a contemporary romantic suspense story that has quite the emotional punch for readers who look for books that feature our men in blue and their love interests. It includes steamy adult content scenes that had me grabbing my imaginary cigarette afterwards. The bottom line though is that this story features a mainstream couple who could be your neighbor, friend, local hangout acquaintance, etc., not a standout power couple scenario story.

This book just wasn't very good. It just didn't have anything I was hoping for:

Suspense? Not much.
Romance? Nope.
Complex characters? No.
Mystery? Nada.
A believable relationship? Still no.
Realistic characters: Absolutely not.
A satisfying conclusion? Kind of.
Tons of unanswered questions/plot holes? Yes.

𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟: Rated R / 1-4 descriptive sex scenes, may have harsh language.
𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦: past domestic abuse, stalking, death by shooting
𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟𝗦: 4/5 - Tackled some seriously tough topics.

I loved it! I am a little short on time. I loved how it all came together when David found out Dani's ex was the reason she was in hiding. He was willing to find out more & discover how he found them after they had gone to so much trouble to hide from him. He'd almost killed them both before he was in jail so when he tried to get Casey from school, they knew it was time to disappear. He shouldn't have even been out yet. It was a good story! I loved it.

Support for the Blue

This is a great way to end this series and while it's a tough subject, it's a needed one. Well done. We need a lot more support and care for women who have gone through this type of trauma. I love these characters and the whole family series. Dave and Dani are a great pairing and her sweet daughter is just the icing on the cake. I definitely recommend the whole series.

Love the Wildes

Curmudgeon Dave finally finds the woman that brings him to his knees, and her daughter who raps him around her finger. Now he just has to keep them alive. With just enough action and intrigue this romantic read has it all.

Very enjoyable read and I liked all the characters, well apart from the psycho ex. Story flowed well and there was humour, intrigue and romance in abundance.
