Absolutely loved this book!!!! It will make you laugh, and it will make you cry! Drake and Ana have left Chase and Sophie in Texas to expand their business in Florida. You would think moving to sunny Florida would be a no-brainer, right? Not so much…Drake is working long hours, and Ana is lonely as she has no job and is struggling to find friends, even with Drake’s cousin, Emily.
I thought Kate Benson really did a number on me with Chase and Sophie’s story, but I think she was just setting me up for Drake and Ana. The problems were different, but the emotions were just as raw, if not more. She added Emily and Brad whom readers got to see a little in the later books in The Promise Series. Yes, they have problems as well. I love that Kate gives us these wonderful, human characters. Looking at them from the outside, they are all gorgeous and seem to have a great life, but there is “real life” going on underneath. I thought I knew Drake and Ana pretty well in the earlier books, but nope I didn’t. The overall theme in this book is control. Each person thinks they have control, but they are very mistaken, and it’s this need to have control that has the potential to drive each couple apart. As the title suggests, it’s compromise in life that saves us. But, will each of these characters realize it before it’s too late?
There are some serious issues within the pages of this book, but in Kate Benson’s capable and talented hands, they are dealt with sensitively. A truly talented writer can give us a great entertaining story, but also give us a life lesson, and Benson ALWAYS does that. Her books are never superficial, and that’s what makes readers remember her books and her characters. Their stories become your stories. And, as usual, Mrs. Benson has left us with one heck of a cliffhanger, but she always keeps me coming back for more. The Compromise is part of The Promise Series, but it can be read as a standalone; although, you may want to read the earlier books as you will get a better understanding of Drake and Ana.
