Vol. 10 of the Alice in Borderland manga series is different. It is kind of lighter, with the main character enjoying life and love. The final game takes place with new characters-players that have not been used before (or at least I don't recall any of them). Maybe the story will get darker and pick up a notch in the next volumes... But it was nice to take a peek at Arisu's past.
it's refreshing to see arisu be able to take a breath and find time to live his life as best he can in the circumstances to find some love and happiness, even if for a short while. we had another insight into his past as well, which i loved.
the side story (?) with the characters and solitary confinement is tense and wild - alice in borderland at its best.
still, nothing has quite come close to the beach arc yet!
"Countless African elephants are killed every year by ivory poachers. The overhunting doesn't stop. In 10 years, they might all be extinct. African elephants don't run. When their families are in danger, they gather to protect them. Because of their family bond, their species will be extinct"
This is the first time I felt that the show did better. I am loving the Jack game, however, i think it was much better with a certain character involved.
Come from Netflix series because I can't wait for ss2! Finished the whole manga within a few days and it was such a pleasure experience
The idea is briliant, still haven't wrapped my head around how the author was able to come up with such awesome and meaningful story like that. It really makes me question my true identity on the verge of death, when I have to make choices that I bet my life on. I think I'll never know who I really am
I like all the characters. It's a shame that the 2 best friends of Arisu die too soon. I wanted to see them more in the story, but like the story said at some point, their deaths are " necessary evil" for Arisu to mature. Shibuki was a calculating person and will do anything to hold on to her life. I cried when she smiles and embraces Chunta during her last few seconds of the hide and seek game. It's like she finally accepts her fate that she is about to die. It was such a hard moment for Shibuki to let go considering what she did in the past, but she did it, and at least she was happy in her last moment
1st - I respect Arisu's decision to not participate in any games. Do I think that that's actually going to happen? Maybe not... But still, I'm glad that he's chosen to stop and is trying to live his best life.
2nd - That SCENE. You know the scene ;) ;) ;) I was like: Aaaaahhhhh! (And then a few pages later, it was more ahhhh!)
3rd - It should have been absolutely illegal to do that fakeout with Usagi. I literally had to put down the book for a full five minutes. And then, when I finally had the courage to keep reading, IT WAS JUST HIS IMAGINATION. My heart was about to fly out of my chest. If Usagi ever actually dies, Borderland better watch out. Arisu is gonna be out for all your heads.
4th - I have no idea who the jack is... I'm gonna say... maybe the... lady who was woohooing in the bathroom? Like, she's playing dumb and weak to keep from attracting attention to herself? That'll be my guess. We'll see in the next volume!

Arisu's part is a bit boring, but the side story is great. It shows that, in a fight for survival, people turn into monsters. No other life is holy but their own. Anger, paranoia, the desire to manipulate others all come into play just like the Jack of Hearts wanted for his game.

Volume 12 starts by continuing Arisu's and Usagi's journey after splitting from the group. Shortly after, the Jack of Hearts game begins. Unlike in the Netflix series, Chishiya is not present for this game. While I definitely miss his wit being present, this does allow for the other characters to shine more. Look forward to seeing them get developed further in volume 13. 5/5

Chishiya's presence is really missing from the Solitarily confiment game. The game in itself is very interesting but without a character for us as readers to root for it loses a lot of it's suspense. Adding him to the game in the tv show was such a lift.
