To most people Jamaica is sun, sea and rum drinks by the pool. But Miami Jones and Danielle Castle don't vacation like most people. After witnessing an assault on a young man in Montego Bay, Miami and Danielle are hired to protect a young athlete with Olympic dreams. But there are lots of athletes with those dreams, and not all of them play by the rules. Miami and Danielle find themselves up against corrupt officials, athlete managers with a kit-bag full of dirty tricks, and a local police force that might be in it up to their necks. In a paradise where running fast is the national pastime, Miami and Danielle must go at full throttle to protect their client and help him hit the finish line alive.
A.J. Stewart has lived in so many places it feels like he has a home team in every game he sees. Which explains why his wife begins any sports telecast with "who are going for today?" A.J. and his family currently spend their time in Los Angeles and South Florida, but stay tuned, anything could happen.
Really 3.5 stars. This was the weakest of the first four books in the series. Nobody reads a series like this looking for it to be terribly believable, but if the characters are interesting and well developed you as the reader will probably not care. I didn't like the whole Jamaica aspect of this book and therefore didn't buy the premise. This is still a great series and I look forward to reading the next 4 books in the series.
What Stewart writes about is outside of my world. I know nothing of Jamaica except that it's there. The rest I get from second-hand news. Are professional sports tainted? Maybe.... Stewart writes a fun and exciting story about one man and woman who made a difference in one Jamaican man's life. If we all could do that it would be a better world, don't you think?
Ok I waited until I finished the 4th book in the series to leave a review. Not intentional - just anxious to read the next in book! BUT being from FL and having lived in PB for 20 years I always worry if a writer will "get it right" . Stewart tells great tales with gripping plots and believable characters. Oh yeah - and he totally nails a part of the true Sunshine State I love (and miss) greatly. This is a must read series!👍
Miami and Danielle are on vacation in Jamaica. Out one night, they happen upon a young man being brutally beaten in a dark alley. Of course, Miami and Danielle rescue him. Only to find out, the young man, Marcus, wasn't only beaten up, but his new shoes were stolen at that time. They take Marcus home, and find out, those shoes were from a man, who was supporting and pushing Marcus to run in a moneyed race. Of course, Miami and Danielle take up for him, especially when they see him run a race barefoot. A story, the reader won't want to put down, until the very end!!
Entertaining and fast paced audiobook. Smart, Interesting lead characters (Federal Agent Danielle Castle and private eye Miami Jones ) with a knights in shining armor appeal. While I enjoyed the change of scenery from south Florida to Jamaica, I hope they don’t leave the Sunshine State too often! Narrator Paul Heitsch is a good match for the series and his performance added to my enjoyment of this audiobook.
This is definitely a story that tells of struggles, but one that suggests a good future for a deserving boy and his mother, and it shows Miami Jones' heart at its best. The Jamaican patois, well transcribed, adds to the enjoyment. This one is so far my favorite!
I knew I was not going to like this book before I started reading it but I was wrong. I am amazed that the writing held my interest. He knew where to punch it up and where to minimalist the the story. Really is a well written story. On to number 5 and looking forward to it.
I always enjoy a nice Miami Jones story. The settings are places I am familiar with and the stories have just enough action seeded with a slightly comedic undertone to make and pleasurable and quickly moving reading experience. Thanks for this I really liked it.
Two things are paramount in this story. One is that paradise is home for Miami and Danielle. A nd two is that ; where Miami finds trouble, Danielle is soon to follow. All in all, a goo read.
The book was an "alright" read but I didn't think it met the high standards of the previous books in the series. The plot was rather weak leading to a rather slow start and some difficulty getting into the story. However, by the ending the story line picked up and was quite good.
I'm loving the Miami Jones series and am now on #11. I like the characters and it's easy reading and enjoyable. It helps that I've spent so much time in the south Florida area where most of the stories take place.
Miami and Danielle go to Jamaica on vacation. Being the trouble magnet that he is it quickly finds them. A well written plot set on the island and in Florida brings out the bad guys. A great story.
An exciting plot in a deservedly successful series. Narrator is a pleasure to listen to, he adds a feeling of fun and seriousness. As always the plot is complete and there is a “hint” of future novels.
This book took Miami Jones to a different place and that was refreshing. It was interesting to find out how he a Danielle had to solve their problems on foreign soil.
I’m a fan of this series, but this was probably my least favorite of the 4 I’ve read so far. It just bogged down a lot, and the separation from his partner for long periods of the book took away from the banter they usually have. It wrapped up fine, but wasn’t the best of them so far.
Southern Florida PI Protagonist and awesome supporting cast...Jamaica....sports...I love this author and am very sad to be burning through the series so quickly!!! Hope you are still writing, A.J.!!!
#4 in the series. This time Miami and Danielle go to Jamaica and meet a boy who runs, fast. Miami gets him a chance to attend University of Miami on the track team.
Miami Jones and his girlfriend Danielle are on vacation in Jamaica. The only problem is they aren’t the relax and do nothing types and find themselves bored after one day. They begin exploring the world outside of the resort and soon help a young man who is being mugged for his sneakers. After returning him to his home, they are asked to provide protection for the young man, Marcus, for the next few days.
They find themselves immersed in the world of international running and as well as the politics of sports in a country as poor as Jamaica. This is where young men like Marcus are exploited in the hopes that one of them will become the next Usain Bolt and others can profit by riding on their coattails. The man who hired Miami and Danielle to protect Marcus is one of those people.
Love these books but Dead Fast was my favorite in the series so far. The adventures of Miami Jones and friends are great fun to follow. I'm all caught up and standing by for the next one!
Fast paced fun reading. I'm in love with Miami! The characters are easy to like, if I met them in person we would definitely hang out. Great entertainment.
#4 in the Miami Jones series and all of them have been 5 stars. If you like a PI that colors outside the box, really does not like bad guys and has an irreverent sense of humor, this is a series to try. I am just glad there are more of them to read.
