Macarius of Egypt (Greek: Ὅσιος Μακάριος ο Ἀιγύπτιος, Osios Makarios o Egyptios; Coptic: ⲁⲃⲃⲁ ⲙⲁⲕⲁⲣⲓ; 300–391) was a Coptic Christian monk and hermit. He is also known as Macarius the Elder , Macarius the Great and The Lamp of the Desert.
A beautiful & powerful collection of homilies. A powerful series of lessons on Christian victory over sin, Sanctification & holiness that God brings about within us, the shedding of the old wicked life as slavery under Satan to freedom in Christ. A beautiful & edifying series of text.
Excellent Patristic exhortations. He understands spiritual warfare from experience in an in-depth way. As with all of the Church Fathers, he's not infallible, and there were a few things which I question (no medical doctors for Christians, especially), but this an edifying and completely understandable devotional read; most of the homilies are not long.
