Skorzeny: Hitler’s Commando by Infield was incredibly fun to read while also diving deep into a very controversial figure during and after the Third Reich. The author provides a neutral representation of Skorzeny and his activities before, during and after the Second World War from resuming Mussolini to acts of terrorism in Egypt and Argentina after the war. What I really enjoyed most was that the author touched on Odessa and The Spider which were created by Skorzeny after the war comprised of former SS and other Nazi ideologues, these organizations not only carried out political assassinations, mercenary contracts, robberies and etc but also are the reason why we have not found many of the Nazi war criminals we are still seeking today. From being involved in the Peron Regime, the CIA, Fascist Spain, Egypt and many other spheres of influence he shaped political climates and events that are still having an impact on the world around us today. His influence on modern terrorism labeled by the author as Skorzeny Syndrome still exists today and will in his view continue to do so and evolve from the foundation Skorzeny created for almost three decades. This is a great book and I really enjoyed it. I highly suggest it to anyone wanting to read an interesting World War Two and Cold War biography.

Otto Skorzeny on myyttinen toisen maailmansodan hahmo, jonka uhkarohkeat operaatiot ovat legendaarisia. Suurin osa Skorzenyn maineesta on kuitenkin peräisin Skorzenyn liioittelevista teksteistä, joilla hän elätti itseään sodan jälkeen, ja Natsi-Saksan propagandakoneiston tuotoksista, joissa arpinaamainen SS-kapteeni nostettiin propagandan kärkihahmoksi. Infieldin kirjassa nämä tarinat niellään kritiikittä ja kerrotaan fiktio Hitlerin supersotilaasta.

Lively and detailed account of Skorzeny, a larger than life figure on the German side of WWII. At times it lurches into exaggeration and unsupported assumptions, but it's a quick and interesting read.

A fascinating read of a former Nazi who had a pivotal, but little acknowledged influence on much of post-war history.
